I have an 18 f150 and with a lot of patience I was able to drill thru the plastic door coupling and ran 16 GA. Wire.was so worth it. Also almost went thru 36 sqft of sound deadening just in the doors. You guys are my inspiration. Haven't touch car audio in 25 years. I got the 7 inch kenwood components but I heard you say oval is better.

All those foam rings in front, back and rear circle are an overkill, all that added foam material is absorbing the sound output of the mid bass, making it less efficient and not as loud. You already have the sound deadening material to take care of the rattles. I have personally done my installs both ways and find that the foam is a waist of time and money, as well as suppresses the output of the speaker.
@drm99795 жыл бұрын
i cannot speak for the foam pad in the rear, but I recently installed a set of Focal Utopia w-xp and behind I placed a Dynaxorb pad, I did drivers side first, not really expecting anything, I was stunned to hear a clearly audible difference between it and the other speaker. sadly, Dynaxorb is discontinued! so i bought a bunch on closeout from ebay merchant.

Thinking I shouldn't have bought my 2021 Accord EXL 1.5T since the 10 speaker stereo is so bad....and it is so hard to improve it however the rest of the car is very good. I had a 2010 Acura TSX with good sounding 7 speaker system and would have bought 2021 TLX but despite having a 4" longer wheelbase the TLX had no more room in it than my TSX... and I like space in a car.

I have 3 sets of these Morel Tempo Ultras and I wish i never ordered them. Look into the CDT ES 6.5 Line or HD line. These Morels are not loud nor do they get low. If you buy Morel Stay at VIrtus and Above. I would avoid Morel anway since CDT has better offerings at cheaper price and even speakers on parts express by dayton are better sq.

So can someone fill me in - does Dean only run speaker cable from amp to speaker on higher end installs? And then run speaker cable from amp to the factory harness on cheaper installs? When isn't it a good idea to use the factory harness? How do you get through the door grommets?
@fivestringfury24 жыл бұрын
I'm not guru, but I will try to answer your question. In this car, the factory stereo also handles information for the car such as TPMS, VSS, Maintenance, and Vehicle settings. Because of this, there's not one harness on the back of the radio to control just the stereo portion. A T-Harness (Axxess AX-DSP-HON2 in this case) will easily separate the FL, FR, RL, RR speaker wires and give us the ability to completely reconnect the wires from ONE location to restore the vehicle to factory without having to cut any factory wires. In this application, we only need 4 channels that are already pre-wired. This is the best way to perform the install without removing all of the interior of the car. Most people doing this at home will only pull off trim pieces and not remove consoles or seats. Running all new wires to each speaker might be an option if you really want to add serious power, but in 99% of cases people only want to increase clarity or add DSP/EQ corrections and not build custom door panels for the speakers they want. Using the factory wiring harness also eliminates the need to fish wire through the door grommets - some car makers now make a connector for doors and not an actual electrical cable raceway. Hondas still use the rubber raceway so fishing wires through the doors shouldn't be difficult. This Honda is relatively easy to just push wire through the door grommets. Lowe's has fish tape that is a plastic semi-rigid tube that will bend and snake through harder applications. Because of the tweeter location in the pillar, we have to run two wires through the door here but in some cases, or when coaxial speakers are used, the tweeter is located at the top of the door panel near the mirror mounts so factory wiring will be the easiest and fastest way to accomplish the task. It's very rare nowadays to find factory wiring insufficient for quality sound. In conclusion: Speaker cable from amp to individual speakers: Not required for replacing factory speakers with upgraded component or coaxial. New wires will be necessary for installing expensive and extensive speakers in the doors such as subwoofers, mid-bass, tweeters that will require multiple channels and a custom door panel. At this point, you're literally spending thousands of dollars on speakers for your doors. Door speakers are often times best just upgraded and then add a subwoofer somewhere else in the vehicle. Adding speakers requires adding wires. When should you not use factory harness: If you are able to install an aftermarket stereo and require more than 4 or 6 channels then using the factory wires will be rendered obsolete because you will have to run new wires for more channels anyway. Find the harness that fits your vehicle's factory power supply to the radio and have fun with new wires. (Please take the time to use heat shrink tubing and solder your connections - nothing is worse than having to peel everything apart for a shoddy connection somewhere) Door Grommets: Lowe's has fish tape that electricians use to push through conduit. It's overkill for a 10" run of wire, but it works well. The smallest length of fish tape will work best. I think it's like 15 foot? Sorry I'm long-winded... Hope this helps.

@@fivestringfury2 very helpful. thank you 🙂👍 btw, do you think a 50-watter/ch RMS amp like kicker key 200.4 can make morels sing well enough (90w-RMS, dips 3.1 ohms) ? or better get lower RMS speakers like JL C2 2-way (60w rms, 91db) im looking for better SQ speakers matching the low powered, class D amp w/ auto DSP like kicker key 200.4 (i prefer efficiency+minimalism of class D amps albeit lower SQ attributes (when compared to a proven AB amp)
