Morgz and his relationship with controversy is very interesting to me. He’s apart of the “low hanging fruit” for commentary channels to use for a filler video. But unlike other low hanging fruit, such as JayStation and Jake Paul, he himself seems to exist in this post-ironic state of self-parody. He doesn’t seem like he’s gotten out of hand on a personal level, I never see people talking about harsh allegations. It leads me to believe he’s entirely separated from his Morgz persona, like he said. Morgz controls the narrative in a way I haven’t seen from a lot of creators. He inflates his notoriety with nonsense children’s content that he injects with enough annoying aspects to be reacted to. His annoying nature, in my opinion, isn’t a product of his genre nor his personality. It’s crafted to be ridiculed, because he can take it, BECAUSE Morgan is nowhere near Morgz. Other creators who try this method have breakdowns. Morgan has perfected the separation of a persona and person, embodying the relationship of an actor and their character.

If someone else was more in charge of the documentary, it could have been good. If Morgan had spoken about how his ego inflated owning a home before 18, or how he almost died and how it made him second-guess what he was doing. The real jaw dropping moment for me was the mom’s comment towards the end about how people don’t know about what Morgz does for kids, then, after stumbling over what she wants to say and choking up, she tells the viewer that: Dying kids want to meet Morgz. That’s it. Not that Morgz actually meets with dying kids. Not that he donates his money to children’s charities or goes to see kids in the hospitals or takes them on secret toy spending sprees. No. It’s that kids who are dying want to see Morgz as their “Make a Wish” choice and Morgz has (presumably) met with at least some of them. And I’m thinking to myself: Did Morgz actually have his mom talk about how many dying kids want to see him….as a flex?! Like “Oh hey, how many dying kids want to see Cody Ko? Probably nowhere near as many as want to see me!” I was absolutely stunned (though not surprised) that in this combo pat on the back mixed with a pity party that Morgz is sticking his mom on camera to pimp him up, using theoretical kids with terminal illnesses as a prop to stroke his ego! That’s LITERALLY what happened there! My God, that is sickening!
@so.mellii
@so.mellii 2 жыл бұрын
i honestly hope what his mom said wasn’t scripted because if so, morgz knows exactly what he’s doing and thinks its ok to use DYING CHILDREN as an ego boost. sad :(

That was the only part of the documentary that made me feel something, but I wish they talked about the impact of meeting those kids if he actually did, because it's intresting. @jadziajan
@jadziajan 2 жыл бұрын
Including it in this "documentary" was absolutely meant to be a flex. He's not the only one to have used this fact to make themselves look like a good person. However, I am enclined to believe that his *mom* choosing to talk about it and being emotional over it is genuine. Even though she doesn't talk about the impact or what Morgz does, just the knowledge that someone's last wish is to see you (or your own son) is quite something.

I don't like his content, but a lot of small kids probably do, he probably makes a lot of kids happy, and I feel for the kids who lost their morgz. I'm glad he's getting more comfortable on youtube, and understand if he wanted to stop making that content that's probably very hard to make. I agree on what you said about him starting over, he needs a new channel if he wants a new audience, otherwise all the 3rd graders who liked his old content are going to become uninterested. sorry if this doesn't make sense, I was watching the video while writing 💀✋

honestly, you should never let your underage child buy a house for you ...... as a parent, it's your role to financially support your child until adulthood. it's great if they can afford to buy you a house after that but to become financially dependent on your underage kid is to hand him the reigns. suddenly, he can't rely on you for any kind of support bc he's taking you to places you have both never been.

Honestly I feel like once you look into most documentaries you kind of find out that they are just ‘a different lie’ anyway. Exemplified notoriously by _Supersize Me_ or even the first season of _Serial._ I feel like trying to give something a traditional narrative that inherently doesn’t have one, like a persons life, always ends up kind of a lie.
@KuncanDastner

@@KuncanDastner I think it’s often not malicious, it’s just either the blind spots/bias from the perspective of the film maker or the film maker is more concerned with entertainment. So shuffling sequence, omitting, or fabricating major events or other details that would ruin the narrative seem to often be of greater importance. People put way too much trust in something being a _documentary_ and I feel like documentaries are like the ‘based on a true story movie’ of non-fiction movies, which everyone already knows essentially means nothing in regards to the truth. So I think we should all start treating them that way.

Hey Duncan, I've been really enjoying your content since I found your channel last week. I've watched over a dozen of your videos and I enjoy your pragmatic & systematic approaches and it's always clear that you're never coming from a place of malicious intent...and that's the case with this video as well. While I get your points and agree with most, I did want to mention a couple of things since I've been watching about 15 different UK KZbinrs and have seen their rapport with Master Morgan Hudson. The first thing is that I think he's genuinely a good bloke. I know that this documentary came across as a wee bit of bluster, mixed with some flexing...but I think about when I was 16 and my folks got me this beautiful gold & diamond Hawaiian ring, and I felt so proud that I wanted to show everyone. So I try to put myself in his shoes, a teenage boy who came from a humble household and an average socioeconomic background, coupled with the fact that being a KZbinr while in secondary school is often mocked and ridiculed, I can understand why he'd want to make it...but that doesn't change the fact that so cringed, hard, often at the same parts as you. Hehe. When you have some time, watch the video below. Jaackmaate prides himself on his objectivity, and he tore into Morgz about 3 years ago...but last year he had Morgan on his podcast, and like Jaackmaate had done with KSI, he realized that he judged Morgz, but was finding out that Morgan is not that person IRL. I know that cynics would tell me to stop being so naive, and to them I say...WillNE... kzbin.info/www/bejne/g162aKWOmd2hptU Remember when Morgz was talking about the security? And he mentioned WillNE & Nico...well Will was challenging Jill, Morgz's mum, to see who'd hit their subscriber count first...and that was all a publicity stunt. The reality is that Will and Morgz are mates and often engage in playful banter, what we yanks might call "talking sh!t"...and their friendship is seen in many of Will's videos where he calls Morgz to be in his main channel videos, like his Smash Mouth one, and the one where they played Connect-4 for $10,000...in fact, Jill got home while they were playing and played part of the game. So yes, he can be a cringe King, and he can humble brag and flex, but I try to remind myself that there isn't a guidebook on how to navigate KZbin fame at 16, and that I continue to see growth from the 6'6" lad...and we had Jake Bawl and Logan Fall when they were teenagers and they were massive bell ends and knob heads compared to Morgz. Hehe. Did you like the dad - joke word play with their surname? What can I say? I love Mayor Kurtis and his dad - joke energy. 😅😄 I'm waiting for Kurtis to come to Hawai'i and visit the real life Kurtistown. Anyway, aloha from Honolulu!

He was surprisingly interesting on the Happy Hour Podcast. He really goes into a lot of the interesting bits that were apparently glossed over in the doc. But it was also weird seeing his real life demeanor being incredibly calm but also anxious about the interview

Morgz is one of those creators that makes me want to go full boomer and scream "Think of the children!" I can't stand him or other creators like him. I find myself unable to be objective when it comes to these creators because they embody all the characteristics I find most detestable in a person: arrogance, obnoxiousness, disingenuousness, a complete lack of regard for others, a healthy dose of narcissism, apathy and an unwillingness to change. The thought that creators like him have such an influence over children makes my skin crawl.

If you still have those succulents behind you, put them in more sun. Succulent success is plenty of sun and little water. By little water I mean the frequency of watering, not the quantity of water. South facing window (all day sun) is best. Make sure they are in well draining soil (meaning lots of sand and perlite) in a pot with drainage holes for excess water. The best indicator of a well kept succulent is close tight growth with the tips of the leaves facing up. A lowlight plant like a peace lily, snake plant, or zz plant would do better in that spot.

Watching that one clip of morgz get excited when he saw that he finally got one million subscribers made me really happy for him to be honest. The look of a little kid being that excited for something he's been working on for a long while made me smile. Of course, it may have turned him into a loud scrawny and hyper youtuber, but even then, his demographic is young kids, and he isn't hurting anybody.

I found your channel maybe a week ago, and in that time I’ve seen your subscriber count increase like- 7 thousand? I’m glad to see it. You deserve a bigger audience, and I’m wishing you the best. I have to say I really appreciate the level of genuine criticism of everyone/everything you cover. It really seems like you are trying to empathize with the perspective of everyone you cover, and covering this documentary (for example) as a breakdown of a film piece and providing criticism on how to improve the /film/ instead of just attacking Morgz’s character (which is what I often find commentary channels doing with their subjects) is very refreshing. I really appreciate the respect you provide to the people you cover. I’m happy to join the subscriber count :)

It bothers me how much this "Morgz"character of his constantly appear throughout the whole documentary when he literally set the whole thing up to separate himself from said character. Like dude, I thought "Morgz" was a character not your personality, like his not even trying to distance himself from his character, his simply excusing his behaviour and blaming it on his social media persona.

HEY GUYS CAN YOU HELP ME GET THIS MESSAGE TO KUNCAN THANKS!! so on KZbin shorts I keep seeing videos of these nasty old me giving something called "red pill dating advice" and it's absolutely fucked up. The advice goes as far as suggesting you abuse women so that they'll treat you better. The sad thing is it's not a joke these guys genuinely believe men are superior and women deserve to be treated like shit because they're just sex objects anyway. I keep seeing these videos and I want Kuncan to do a video calling out these creeps.

Dude when I was a kid they warned us about chubby bunny (stuffing as much marshmallows into your mouth as possible. Do British people not teach their kids that this is a choking hazard. 😂 Also he was clearly staging the takes at the beginning and then told on himself with the “KZbin apology sigh.” Your feedback on that was spot on. This feels like a parody of a documentary like Netflix’s “American Vandal.” Honestly though, he obviously has potential. He’s coming off as just very naïve and inexperienced.

I am an English teacher and I have a degree in linguistics (y’know, the study of language and the ways people use it across cultures, not just in English), and I want to address the ways you might make a name like Morgz possessive. There are rules about how to make plurals possessive, and how to make names that end with an S or a Z possessive, but language usually evolves towards simplicity. (At least until some conservative dickheads stand up and declare that things should remain the same, or return to the way things were when said dickhead was a child.) So, expert opinions vary, but I think, in spoken English, you should pronounce the possessive of Mogrz’ name like “Morgzes” AND that you should spell it Morgz’ or Morgz’s; either way would convey the name and the possessive property, which is really all you need.

Id argue there's no such thing as a completely impartial embedded documentarian and that kind of style is more about the aesthetics of 'objectivity' and distance than anything else. Nor do I think aiming for impartiality (or the appearance thereof if I'm being cynical) makes for inherently better documentaries. Free Solo is a good example of a documentary where the documentarian was very much not impartial That being said Morgz' documentary is obviously trash and love this video

If the documentary was 2-3 hours long and said more about how things affected him, what he wants to do, his passions more people would have cared.
