I am aware of the KLR mistake. I once owned a KLX 650, and thats what came out. Also, I am aware of the pronunciation error of Bimota

KLX650 does sound sexy, tho. As someone who owns a KLR650 and KLX400 I can relate to the confusion.

The even bigger mistake you made was discounting the TW200? Have you not seen the Fortnine video "crossing canadas only dersert" ? "If the dual sport was made for going off road , the tdub was made for going off trail" Its north Americas last true "farm bike" its just built different

You should've talk about maintenance schedule, 1000km for most of these bikes, exept for the 690 enduro/701, 10,000km. Its an important information to make your choice. Fuel range too, you don't talk about it, for example, the CRF300 Rally has 400km of range, wich is more than 50% more range than all the other dual sport you mentioned. Should have talk about the spied KTM 390 Rally as well, maybe we'll see it in 2023.

This needs to be caveated. The KTM/Husky maintenance schedules are for racing conditions. If you're dual-sporting or ADV riding, you can stretch those intervals out considerably. RTWPaul just posted his maintenance schedule for his KTM 500 EXC, which is now over 50,000 miles on the original motor, and he changes his oil between 35-55 hours and anywhere between 2500 and 3500 miles. I do 30-50 hours myself on my 530 EXC and FE501S. Oh, and piston replacements at 100 hours or whatever are also only for racing conditions, my 530 is at 8300 miles/350 hours and my 501 is 9500 miles/450 hours, both on the stock pistons.

It really depends how much off road riding you do and how fast you want to go off road. In most cases a dinosaur works fine, goes 50,000 miles or more without an engine rebuild and you don’t pay European parts prices…if you can even find the parts on the shelf.

I actually went in the opposite direction. KLR650 to the Africa Twin. It's just a matter of what you want to do. It's better for long-distance/moto-camping and I can do any jeep trail that I normally do, but the trade off is it it definitely takes a little more effort and you have to pick your lines a little more carefully. To each his own! Happy riding! ✌️😎

Technically (federally) the PR7 isn’t street legal in any State, it is in Europe. I have a plate on mine. As do many owners. They’re “off road only” according to distributor (and the government), so I depends on what State you live in. In that regard, in many states you can plate any dirtbike (even a 2T). 🤷

Great video man! The Bimota will be coming to the states, hopefully this spring from what I've heard from their Rep. I'm sure you didn't mention much of the Sherco sef line up as they aren't street legal off the showroom floor but in many states it's not hard to get any of the sef Shercos registered for road use. There's not a lot out there for videos and such on them though so it's hard to say what people really think about them. I'm currently stuck on trying to decide between a Beta 500 rr-s the Sherco 500sef factory and the KTM 350 XC-F factory edition as any of these can be registered in South Carolina.

I have a 2021 WR450, factory plated and road legal here in Australia, I ride even ride mine to work on occasion. Absolutely amazing bike, rewards being super aggressive in the bush and it's an absolute hoot on the road but I think dual sporting it long distance is a stretch. I had a WR250R and I don't think it can be beat for a beaut all round do it all bike. Absolute tragedy Yamaha discontinued it.

@@BornAGoon SWM has loaned us a couple of RE500R’s to race Vegas to Reno in 2022. Unfortunately, a rock ended our race before it started, so we are going to try again in 2023. I still have them both on my shop. They are excellent d/s bikes, especially for the price point. We are still refining the race bike. As you would expect, we had to revalue and respiring the suspension, that isn’t any different than what we did to the KTM we rode in 2020. If you are interested in hearing more, let me know. The 98 XR 250 comes with the headlight and taillight. Back in 98 it cost an extra $250 to make it street legal. It also came with a baffle that came out with 3 bolts. So I say this incase someone is looking for a lighter and more powerful and obviously now in 2022 very cheap dual sport.

Great overview, thank you! However: Which do you consider THE UNICORN nowadays? That remains unclear to me ... Personally, I ride my Unicorn ... a KTM 950 SuperEnduro R built in 2006. Capable of everything apart from extreme enduro. It's getting a little old now though. So what bike could replace it and it's versatility, considering that closing in to 60 I've begun to loose strength?

I had a KLX300 and XT250 at the same time. The KLX300 was higher performing, but just a little bit. The XT250 was lighter, shorter, and a lot easier to work on. So, there are reasons for purchasing the XT250 over the Honda or Kawasaki if you're shopping in that market.

Nice to see an apparent uptick in dual sport interest amongst manufacturers. I’ve been a rider for 47 years, in every category and most available flavors. I’ve by far enjoyed dual sport the most. Still wouldn’t trust Chinese metallurgy with my life. Would like to see a US manufacturer show some ambition and jump into the dual sport mix. Maybe a resurrection of ATK. Born, good work.

The FSE 250e air cooled 6 speed carburetor 4 stroke, the FSE300r liquid cooled 4 stroke EFI 6 speed and the FSE 450r liquid cooled 4 stroke EFI 6 speed. @@vicktorus847 Fun video! Not sure on Canadian market but in the US it was the klx650r (dirt) and klx650c. The r had plastic tank, adjustable suspension, aluminum swingarm (maybe frame too?), hotter cam and higher compression, maybe a few more things advantage over the c model as a dirt bike. I think they'd sell like hot cakes these days, they were actually a bit ahead of their time then imo. 🤙

Great to see some of the smaller companies such as Beta, SWM and Bimoto getting some spotlight. You should throw TM in there too. The have a dual sport that’s street legal in most states within the US, legal in Ca too. Those smaller brands have a smaller carbon footprint and get away with allot more than the larger brands when it comes to emissions. Big reason why Beta and Tm riders love their bikes and leave them mostly stock, but ktm and Honda owners are all buying exhausts and ecus to get them uncorked and running well.

Good video, thank you. I'm a DR650 fanatic so since you at least mentioned the bike I'm going to have to find other uses for my tar & feather inventory. One feature you & others didn't mention is that some States require a steel gas tank. Regardless of the tank design, there must be protection between the gas & the road. I understand BMW F800 GS; which you didn't mention(so I can sell my inventory to a Beemer rider), I understand that model has a plastic gas tank but also has a formed steel shroud that protects the tank enough to be street legal. Finally: I'm disappointed that Suzuki is catabolizing it's 'Cycle division to pay the debt of it's failed Car venture. Also it needs to be said...a DR650 in grey is the worst color choice under the Sun. Off-Road & Dual-Sport Suzuki's are Yellow!!
