The thing that bugs me about Shiki is what happened to Megumi's "best friend"? She was traumatized/hospitalized in her latest screen time and no more screentime in the last episodes! The ending left a big question in everything for me! About the residents, the "best friend", did the other mc survive, about the "main" shiki, everything!!!

In the village people start dieing the rest is a spoiler but there is no definitive main lead even If some charachters get more screen time or are more important it is a story of a pretty big group og people with glimpses of the rest of the village it's really interesting has great music and overall it's worth watching

That anime definitely has one of the most beautiful and sad soundtrack collection. Especially for the ones who love sad soundtracks I really recommend listening to them. My all-time favorite and the one that by far ranks no. 1 regarding tragic soundtracks is "Shi-ki" (it's almost 8 min. long). The tragic atmosphere in it is simply amazing and it gets even more intense when you've watched episode 20.5 (i.e. the first OVA). That scene regarding Nao Yasumori...

Ngl Shiki is one of those animes that makes us question “Who or which is the real monster?” The humans who are brutally killing vampires without even giving them a chance even though they’re their loved ones or family? Or the vampires who have to kill someone in an order to keep themselves nurtured and healthy? Oddly enough, sometimes i wonder if it’s portraying the real world

But that is the interesting thing: In theory, the conflict could have been resolved if it were not for the characters Tatsumi and Sunako. From the start, the Shiki only needed blood, which was possible to obtain without killing humans. Yet Tatsumi indoctrinated and trained every new member to overcome their hesitance to kill others, teaching them that humans are nothing more than cattle to be slaughtered. Sunako also had no qualms about killing humans and actually wanted to kill and turn the entire village to create a refuge for her kind. And once the villagers fought back, the escalation of the conflict turned into an indiscriminate slaugther both because of Toshio, who reduced the Shiki to a disease to be wiped out, and Tomio whose brutality and anger saw no place for compromise or mercy. Both escalated the violence to the point where they even killed manipulated humans in the worsening "us against them"- dynamic. That is what I find so interesting about Shiki: every character has an impact on the story, reshaping the way other characters interact with the world, creating this complicated flow of events. Sorry about those ramblings two years after your comment. I just finished watching the anime and wanted an outlet. xD

I recently watched it after seeing this and damn it hit hard. It was different from other horror anime. This one really made you think. Spoiler alert , dont continue if you dont want to be spoiler Many of those "shiki" that got killed didnt even want to be one in the first place. They didnt have a choice but to go along. Many of them didnt deserve to die. Even tho they were still the same people they knew from everyday, they still had no mercy. No im sorry but I have to do this. This is what made you think. Shiki was such a great series, the art style, the music and the story were great. I especially loved how it really posed the question who were the true monsters in the village, after all humans kill cattle to eat and survive, how was it any more different that a vampire required to feed off a human just wanting to survive also? It was a deep and philosophical conundrum and to this day I see no difference in what the vampires did that we also do.

Watched the series because of this video and JUST finished it last night, and while I usually don't cry from anime, the scene where all the shiki are in the pipe and getting dragged out one-by-one as the villagers are singing together in unison was probably one of the most heartbreaking moments I saw in the whole anime. Seeing Nao sobbing and begging for her life, only for the villagers to take her and her vampiric friends, tie them up, and leave them to burn and rot in the sunlight was certainly something. I don't blame what's-his-face for putting all the shiki out of their misery, I would've done the same. Some close seconds were what happened to Ozaki's wife and Chizuru. God, I feel like an early 2010's Twilight fan now, I think I finally understand what my big sister was on about.

Shiki is one of the first animes I saw. It has a great history, good characters, contains good OST, and have awesome moments dramatically. When the monk and Sunako scape for protect her, when the peolpe burned the town for search to the vampires, simply I loved Shiki. All thats moments turned it in a one of the best animes.

It's really hard to find good horror anime, but I watched Shiki last summer and I highly recommend it. Not only is it good horror, it also gives you the moral and ethical dilemma of how difficult it is to define good and evil. You get to see the actions people resort to and the consequences they have to face in order to convince themselves that they're on the "good" side. It's an interesting duality because you get to see the horror and innocence on both sides, instead of just seeing vampires as evil blood-thirsty monsters or humans as innocent prey. It has a slow start, but builds up pretty nicely and the soundtrack just makes it even more captivating.
