Luchino Visconti - a true master of Italian Neorealismo: Ossessione - a precursor of the Giallo all'italiana, La terra trema, Bellissima, Senso - which isn't neorealistic, and Rocco e i suoi fratelli, two of my all-time favs. Luchino Visconti - a true master of Italian cinema in general: Il gattopardo, the German trilogy: La caduta degli dei, Morte a Venezia & Ludwig, Gruppo di famiglia in un interno, which I also truly love.

Is Political Correctness the sordid reason why not a single scene from 'Death in Venice'? Not my favourite at all, but to deny its stupendous beauty is to lie. And the scene from 'The Leopard', when they arrive covered in dust and brush it off is to me one of the most extraordinary scenes in cinema: perhaps copied by Sergio Leone in 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly'. ('The Most Beautiful Shots of Luchino Visconti' means the shots are of Luchino Visconti. The preposition should be 'by'. In other videos, you've written 'The Most Beautiful Shots of X Y's Films', in which case the preposition is correct.)

I think it might be fun to find individual beautiful shots from non-auteur great directors. Henry King's has some shots in Song of Bernadette that are astonishingly beautiful.... Jules Dassin, Anthony Mann etc.

he made a lot of good movies. Its too bad that he kind of went out of fashion. FIlms like Senso and White Nights are just not seen very much today. But the restored version of The Leopard is quite good.

I think another great choice would be the films of Bernardo Bertolucci. You have done some great editing on some of my favorite film directors: Dario Argento, Luchino Visconti, Roman Polanski, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, and the list goes on.

Much of their interest lies in the superb art direction and costuming for which Visconti's period films were consistently famed. And seen in the fuller context of the films from which they were culled, many of these scenes are imbued with an elegant fluidity that is another hallmark of the best Visconti pictures. And that closing shot here from 'Rocco and His Brothers' truly is beautiful.
