This is Superman, what Snyder never understood or just refused to see. He's the best of humanity and he challenges them to be what he sees in them because as this comic so beautifully shows he loves humanity and is proud no matter how many mistakes are made.

@@newagerise4638 I don't hate Snyder and I'm not ignorant, it's both petty and a weak arguement to claim I do. The best Superman stories both in comics and adaptation are ones that challenge his light heartedness and morality, Man of Steel was lazy and likely made as much as it did due to the action and spectacle. Superman vs the elite and Superman man of tomorrow are vastly superior films because they understand the core of the character, Snyder wanted to make his movies dark and edgy but compromised the core of the characters to achieve this. That is why I dislike man of steel, it's a poor representation of the character - a weakness of writing born of misunderstanding the character.

Superman *should* feel like a bit of a dork, a little bit cheesy, because he's just so damn sincere, that in a pop culture overflowing with edgy, subversive content, he's just some nice old school wholesomeness. And sometimes that is a bit cheesy and a bit dorky. But it still makes you smile.

Au contraire, people love these characters for their sense of moral virtue, compassion and determination to do what's right even in the face of both adversity and people convincing them otherwise. Maybe blaming Superman's unpopularity on some nonexistent societal moral decline is foolish, considering that characters like him can and do still find an audience.

For me, the thing that makes supes and batmans friendship interesting is the fact that, Batman feels Bruce Wayne as his mask, while Batman is his true self, and on the other hand, Clark is just clark. Being superman for him is a way for him to help people, a way for Clark Kent to help people. 2 total opposites that in my eyes really compliment each other, which makes their friendship made sense

I dont gey emotional often, but that image. Superman, no, Clark Kent looking at the Earth and saying "I love you" legit brings tears to my eyes. Ive been through bad BAD periods of depression and one of the things thats helped me is looking into Superman and what makes him so Super. He is an embodiment of hope, kindness, and the good of humanity. Superman isn't a god. Superman isn't an alien. Superman is a man who does what he can to make the world a better place. He's who we should all strive to be. He may not be a biological human, but inside, he's just as human as the rest of us.

You know I'm really glad I've been seeing a recent resurgence of interest in Superman. I think it partially maybe because we're just exposed to so much bad news nowadays. Climate change, poverty, war, and just the overall knowledge that so many of our politicians and leaders are failing us really bums people out. It's so easy to just give up hope and become a doomer. But Superman reminds us that even he can't solve every problem or save everyone, but he always tries his best because he knows that if we all give up on fighting for truth, justice, and the good in people, nothing will get better for certain. And if we all could be like Superman in terms of morals and acting upon those morals, the world would be so much better. That's why his character is timeless and one we should all try to emulate.

I have to say something like this actually gives me hope not just in humanity like one of those star man edits but also in comics. It’s a simple, anthology comic done almost entirely in red and blue and seems to keep to simple almost cozy stories. It’s a work of artistic and writing skill that seems to get buried under the unending event comics, 41 flavors of new gritty Batman (tm), and the latest excuse for hero’s to fight each other instead of crime.

I loved that he represented hope. And he was always willing to fight for "truth, justice, and the American way." Why? Simply because it was the right thing to do. That "Superman:Red and Blue" comic seems to be the hero that I fell in love with - both reading the comics and watching the Christopher Reeve movies. 😍💖😍

He's the embodiment of hope, while Zack tarnished that by making into this edgy and lonesome character. He's not a God that Zack thinks he supposed to be, but a man who uses his gifts to help the people around him. Hearing him saying "I Love You" to Earth. Really shows what he's supposed to be.

So glad somebody else gets it. Superman tackles pretty much everything and is considered overpowered - but his level of antagonists is damn-near cosmic level in strength/power or have abilities that can change the world as we know it. That's the conflict part of it. Superman isn't just the "super." He's more the "man" than he's accredited. It's his heart and compassion that makes Kal-El one of my favourite heroes for the past 50+ years. As for killing Zod? He did that in the comics, too. It's the why he did it and what it did to him, afterwards that counts. He may have a "no killing" rule, but he learned a hard lesson that there are times when you need to do things you are against if the innocent are going to survive. War taught me that part. I can only strive to be half the man this fictional character is written, but I think it's a good standard to uphold. >steps off of the soapbox

Superman is a man who cares more about the person next to him more than himself, no matter who they are, simply because he could see the beauty and true value of life, and wonders a life could accomplish, all because he was raised by love and care. He may struggle, he may feels tired, but at the end of the day, he'll still keep believing in the good of humans, and keep on doing his best to protect, love and inspire them. This quality is what makes Superman the greatest superhero in the history. Not because of his superpowers. But because of his humanity.

I heard this somewhere else, but it's actually thematically appropriate that Superman is usually the one who ends up beating Darkseid in the end. Not necessarily because he's the strongest, but because there's just something special about the abstract concept of evil being beaten by the good in all of us. Because Superman *is* goodness. He's the type of person who would save a kitten from a tree, answer Christmas cards from strangers, and save the world all in a single afternoon. Not because he's strong enough or fast enough, but because he's compassionate enough. That is Superman. That is Clark Kent.

Superman started as an overpowered superhero intended to fulfill the fantasies of kids with his strength, but also teach them a moral lesson. However, we can chisel out that initial intent a bit more just by hammering down this simple fact: "Superman is the personification of the best of humanity." And, really, his powers are just there to allow the guy to do everything he can, to maximize his potential to do good. They are a catalyst to the underlying intentions of an honest, caring man. The best of humanity isn't found in the grandiose, in the creation of great monuments or the making of historical feats. The best of humanity is found in those little moments: a sincere conversation with a friend about something troubling them, a pat on the back and a heartfelt "you're doing good" from your boss, a couple laughing at something only the two of them know, a mother kissing an injury on her child's knee, a father telling their kid how proud they are of them... Superman is as big as his heart, not his powers. Even in the face of absolute adversity, even when there seemingly is nothing to hold on, he should be the light that shines through. Not because of his strength, his speed or his prowess, but because of his immutable love for life.

Red from Oberly Sarcastic Productions made a Trope Talk on Grimdark that is relevant to this video. In it, she talks about optimism and pessimism at a universal scale; optimism says that humanity can become better, and pessimism says it can never. She says that optimism will always have it hear because it can and has been at least improved. Superman is _the_ optimist and only stops being it when a writer is trying to make a point, one made when he kills. Almost every universe with a Superman that kills has no “good guy” because of it.

I saw this exact panel in a starman edit video. And I was just dumbfounded. This is the reason why I love supes and want to be more like him.

I liked it in the past when he could fly in outer space without a protective suit or oxygen mask. In so many ways, they have weakened him too much.

I totally agree with everything you said. I would just like to say that we should make space for different interpretations of the same story. Snyder's Superman came from a world broken beyond repair hence his vision of total annihilation of that world. Although it would have been interesting to watch Cavill play a Core Superman.

He’s an alien but he is the most human. He could run the show at any time. Clark is the kid that grew up on a farm with salt of the earth people. His moral compass is dead on. Earth is his home too and he truly cares and loves people.

I am extremely hopeful that James Gunn will give us possibly the best take on Superman as Gunn has proven to have a deep love of this character since childhood and has expressed how much the character means to him and how this film essentially will be about the true power of empathy and compassion in an otherwise uncaring, cynical world, which is everything Ive always wanted in a Superman movie

I think the reason why Superman is actually appealing Is because he's a God who wants bad people to be good people All these memes goin' "why doesn't batman kill" "Kill TWO killers and the number of killers goes down" No Redeem the people you hate Make them want you to be happy Instead of you hating people, make friends

Honestly I completely agree with you but although I do think there are some positive aspect’s to snyder’s version. We are most used to a fantasy pitch perfect world for superman but in his movie it was a lot more realistic and with him being the only person able to stop Zod and after begging him to stop he had to kill him to save a family, and I felt its him having to make the tough choices, yet I still felt this version came out as a symbol and light of hope.

nah I would 100% that point of view. I understand why the people that like it, like it. I just personally would prefer a Superman that pushes hope rather than power or strength. Someone who can inspire and I just didn't feel that with Snyders version tbh

For someone who can fly across the universe in less in a second, superman is very down to earth, I like that, he represents what we all should be, good honest and kind individuals who will help, even the smallest act of kindness is enough to change the world for better

I mean I agree that this look is cool too, but I dunno man, comics have always been about showing different versions of characters. Snyder had his vision and I thank him for exploring it. I am super excited to see this other perspective on screen, but i dont think the analysis should always about "this other bad, this one good". But good vid man, might take a look at the comic if I have the opportunity

As I grow older I see how much beautiful and complex of a person superman is. Ironic, how what feels like a character that's supposed to be childish to adore cause he's bland, has themes and stories that I would've glanced over if I was younger.

Beautiful video man. I for the longest time saw Superman as someone who was great but not as deep as characters like Batman or Spider-Man. Now I know that not only is he a very deep character. But probably one of the most important for all of us to recognize in our lifetime.
