I visit Kirkby Lonsdale often on my motorbike Matilda. The radical steps are a bit radical but well worth the climb to Ruskins view. Good luck with the Yorkshire three peaks walk.

When you admire the view, there is a large mound over the wall behind you. It used to be one of the most significant places in the country. The two components of the Belinus Ley Line cross there, which is why the Christians built a church there, and why the town exists. Just an old mound now ...

Matilda I think you were correct about Ruskins View being from the river! I quote 'you can walk down the Radical Steps to the river and reach Ruskin's View a few yards along the path on the left.' Turners famous painting appears to have been painted from higher up but the official view is from where you walked to by the river. Jayne did you hear that 😂😂 I'm guessing for safety reasons visitors are directed to the higher viewpoint! 😊😊

@@Neville-N Yes the sign posts all say it’s at the top. Personally I think the view is better from the top and without mother I would have completely missed it turned around and gone home 😂 but great views anyway well worth visiting 😊

@@matildariverwaldennews It is a little confusing. And of course the view is better from the top in 2024. But you can imagine all those years back when Ruskin stood by the riverside that view will have been much different than today.

I'll take from your reply, you have never been to N. Zealand or even the South Island. I would if I were you, you don't know what you are missing 65, million people less to crowd your view for a start and very very clean air. but beware the sand flies.

The absolutely best view is unfortunately on the path that is currently fenced off. That's because the high river bank is at risk of subsiding and taking the path with it! It would cost a fortune to make it safe so sadly I don't think we'll get to walk that path for a long time, if at all.

Matilda, Yes it is definitely a nice view as have visited a few times, but best in the world, NO. I should take a trip to South Island N. Zealand and check these out then you will see the best views in the world and you'll see why they are. Hollyford valley, Milford sound deck walk, Lake Manapouri and Lake Te Anau for a start will blow your mind.

All of South Island views look the same , bit of water and pointy hills, not a patch on luscious green rolling hills of Blighty plus lots of lovely people too 😍

I have I spent best part of 2 years living and touring the Island and you can take it from me it has some of the most iconic scenery on this planet. Book a trip this winter and see for yourself, nevermind the tourist ads, you need to see for yourself all the hidden places the tourist miss and tour guides only tell you the most visited areas.
