Fun fact - when I was 10, me and my dad were at this race, and we stayed through to the very end. We had no idea what was going on until we got back to the hotel afterwards and found out online. Younger me was a Ferrari fangirl, so she didn't mind it too much :P Also holy crap there was so many beer cans thrown on track. IMS had started their own box lunch program (Sandwich, chicken, chips and cookie) for $8 more you could get 2 oil cans(32 oz. ea.) of Foster's Lager. So there were hundreds of thousands of these weighty beers, and dozens and dozens were thrown at the Ferraris from outside the catch fence. We were in turn 1 (Stand H) and it was as close to a riot as I've ever been near. We left after 10 laps. Haven't been to an F1 race since, but the first 5 were great fun!

It didn’t rain a lot, but it drizzled constantly and the cars throwing up spray meant visibility was still be zero and would be unsafe. They should have brought out the services vehicles to clear the water much sooner than when they did, but 2005:looked like even more of a farce when there was anticipation of a proper race. When all the spectators and teams rooked up on race day at Spa and the race start postponed several times in the first hour, it should have been in the back of some people’s minds that the race wouldn’t happen properly.

The whole one set of tyres rule was an absolute joke, just to stop Ferrari winning so when the Michelin runners started having troubles in Indy after having troubles all season Ferrari's attitude of "why should go along with what you guys want?" is understandable in my opinion. Agreed. Ferrari was punished for being too successful the previous year...then, when they're having a bad year, they are supposed to agree to be effectively punished again? I don't think so. The fault lies entirely with Michelin. Regardless of their lack of data, it's up to the company to supply a product that is fit for purpose - and if they aren't sure of the parameters, they should over-engineer them so they at least hold together.

@peter pan so fair that it was repealed the following year. So fair that it was announced when the cars for 2005 were almost ready so it was impossible to make up for this change. One thing that's often overlooked these days is the power struggle that was going on between the FIA and the non-Ferrari manufacturers, who were always going on about forming a breakaway series. I wouldn't be surprised if that had an impact on the FIA being so against the idea of running a non-championship race or letting the teams run a race themselves. If they pulled it off, what was to stop them organising an entire championship on their own?

Even if ferarri did vote for the chicane idea then it wouldnt have gone ahead anyway because the FIA have to check and validate every corner that is raced around to ensure it is safe. Great video though

This is the reason why I hate the 2005 season in the Formula 1 series. And the thing was that it was forbidden to change tires completely from the 2005 season, and if it had been that you could change them, this farce would never have happened.

Spa 2021, nobody will forget that, russell on podium, and mazepin got fastest lap, and the race is only 2laps under safety car.

FIA them: Introduce very stupid regulation only to stop 5-year dominance FIA now: Slow down one team who was about to catch up the 6-year dominator and even didn't state officially their car was illegal

3:26 and 6:16 What a load of bulls**t!!! How can you blame Ferrari for that, it was just pure karma for every Michelin team. A similar problem happened earlier in the season (I think Australia) and in that case the Bridgestone teams were in a disadvantage. However no team wanted to give Ferrari help and so the race went normally. So what Ferrari did in Indy 2005 was completely justified and like I said just pure karma for the other teams.

I was at this race and I'll never forget it. Remember hearing rumors in the morning it may happen but then all cars came out for the warmup and we thought it was back on and then watching them peel off was surreal. Left our seats and just walked around during the race watching the riot police came out as angry fans were starting to get rowdy.

The least worst option would have been to have a chicane, sure Ferrari would have been pissed off but they're still competing on a level playing field against the other cars, the race still happens, fans at the track and home see the race, no one has to mess about with an extra race later in the season.

People: Omg 6 cars only????? Gran Turismo 4 players: First time? 😂

The ironic thing was: although only 6 cars were on track EVERY TIME someone came out of the pits it was really close with another driver into the next corner.
