You've heard all about MLB's UN-breakable records, but what's on the other end of the totem pole there? What are the most feasible MLB records that could be broken sooner rather than later?

I wouldn’t put DiMaggios streak at 56 on the same level as Cy Young. 500 wins now is IMPOSSIBLE. A really good hitter could rattle off a long hitting streak. Can be done in one year
@TheGLORY13
@TheGLORY13 2 ай бұрын
Yeah agreed. We've had people get into the uppers 20s and even 30's if I recall so it's possible good contact hitters still exist. The wins record is 100% impossible to break unless they were to adjust the rules of what a "win" was considered in terms of innings required or you simply had to be the pitcher who started the game. Otherwise you're looking at like 30 wins a season for nearly 17 years and pitchers don't even average 30 starts a year(some get close).

I think the record for the most 20-20 season will definitely be broken. The record is held by both of the Bonds at 10. There are so many young power/speed players right now that I don’t see how it isn’t broken. Bobby Witt Jr. has gotten 20/20 in both of his first two season and need 2 more homers this year to get his 3rd. I wouldn’t be shocked if he breaks it.
@ХорхеГарсия-э5е
@ХорхеГарсия-э5е 2 ай бұрын
Doubt it. To do it 10 times you need to be a 30yo player doing it, several times, and very few players, even if they could theoretically do it, keep stealing bases into their 30s. And the ones that do tend to not be power hitters. You would think that extremely talented guys like Trout and Betts, who both started their career as speedy leadoff batters who transitioned into power hitters would have a lot of those. They COMBINED have 8, 3 for Betts, 5 for Trout.

Most breakable record might just be number of times grounding into a double play. For a season, Jim Rice holds the top two spots with 36 and 35, but Carlos Correa did it 30 times last season so it's definitely in reach. The season record might be tough, though. Pujols owns that one with 426 and it's not close. Miggy is next with 364. The active leader looks like it's Machado with 202, so he'd have to play for another 12-15 seasons to get there and that seems unlikely.

@nathanielbonett2928
@nathanielbonett2928 2 ай бұрын
not necessarily true, pitchers on average have been throwing harder. the reason why pitcher injuries are more common now like tommy john is because more guys are throwing 100+ and using the arm and elbow to max efficiency, causing mass injuries because the elbow shouldn’t go past those limits. although it would be cool, to go higher than 105.8 mph. this year the record is 104 by chapman again and the next guy close is 103.7 by mason miller. just by the law of physics and body science it shouldn’t happen.

Strikeouts aren't a problem on their own, if you're also producing runs. Aaron Judge is striking out at more than 1 per game, and he's smashing the record book. He is the elite, but there are players striking out slightly more, and producing slightly less..... who are still really good players.

I'd say the modern record for largest 9th inning comeback victory is pretty breakable, currently held by the Phillies when they fought back to win after being down 11-3 to the Dodgers on Aug. 21, 1990. 8 runs isn't _that_ insane to where it can't be surpassed, and given the sheer number of games each year, offense being up in general and the susceptibility of teams to let off the gas with big leads I feel like it will probably be broken at some point. Edit: Another 8-run comeback win also happened in 1934

2019 was the peak of juiced balls. I’ve watched a video essay on the claims of juiced balls in 2022. All in all it was a very minimal difference.

Except nobody has ever come close. The best hitter ever Pete rose was still 12 games short in 78. Nobody has even broken 40 games since then and even a 30 game streak is very rare. @@MrCjjuengst It's not quite as hard as that. It's one hit per game, so if you get 4 PA per game, and have a 0.300 batting average, you'd have a roughly 75% of getting on at least once in a game. Still a crazy streak, but I think it is breakable unlike the pitcher wins one, because pitchers just aren't ever used like that anymore.

@@brianmacdonald2485 yea my example is definitely off. I remember reading the likelihood of a 56 game hitting streak is around once every 18000 years. And that's based on the hitter is as good as prime DiMaggio. So yes it's theoretically possible but statistically a near impossible record to break.

The most unbreakable record without a doubt belongs to Johnny Vander Meer . He’s the only pitcher in MLB history to throw two consecutive no-hitters . The first one was June 11 - 1938 against the Boston Bees , four days later , he no-hit the Brooklyn Dodgers in the first night game at Ebbets Field , giving him the MLB record . Maybe some day someone might tie his record but their never going to throw three no-hitters in a row to break it .

I still don't understand why DiMaggio's hitting streak is considered unbreakable. Unlike counting stat records, every everyday player is capable of playing 56 straight games and we have guys like Kwan and Arraez who are still capable of hitting for crazy high averages. DiMaggio hit .408 during the streak which you'd expect would be considerably higher for such a streak and there've been 30+ streaks since.

Here's a question. Is Babe Ruth's America League career home run record of 708 breakable or unbreakable? Well, two players have more career home runs but were National League players. Albert Pujols could have continued to play and maybe even have eked his way past 762 in three or four more seasons. So, call it possible. But how possible? The PED era is over. We know Barry Bonds used. Did Henry Aaron use something? We will never know, but his record past the age of 35 was exceptional to the point of anomaly. There were drugs available in that era and the players took them. One of the players of that era said recently that steroids were not widely available but that the players of 1950s-60s era would take anything they could get their hands on. The only player with a chance today is Aaron Judge. Judge is 32 years old and will have seven years remaining on his contract after this season. Say he hits 20 more home runs this year. In that case, he would have to average 56 home runs plus one over the next seven years to set a new American League career home run record by the end of his contract. If he plays past the age of 40 he might have a chance. Call it less than 50-50. If a power hitter comes along with Judge's capabilities and establishes himself at an earlier age, he probably would pass 708 and break the MLB career record too. I was born and raised in Chicago. and that makes me a Yankee hater from birth. But I am also a graduate (M.A.) alumnus of Fresno State so I am hoping so. But I doubt it will happen.

I think single season home runs will be broken again probably 2024 because Aaron judge right now has 39 home runs a little over halfway into the season

Actually, the Yanks have played over 2/3 of their games already (110) and he is slightly behind pace to hit 60 for the season. He will have to heat up in Aug/Sep to get there.

Dylan Cease, Skubal and Chris Sale are all gonna break the strikeout record in the same year. Ragans might do it too.

These MLB pros take days off throughout the season, who even plays in 162 games? 166 is impossible in present MLB culture where players always make excuses to not play.
