Cultural differences are strong. There's a manga about a guy who can travel to another world with is car (Isekai Shachuuhaku Monogatari - Outrunner PHEV). He finds a girl in the desert and gives her water, and it turns out that giving a woman your water is how you propose in her culture, and she accepted, and he met her parents before he realized he had become engaged. Oh yeah, and she's a princess and a holy figure to her people.

I just recently found this show and binged what episodes were available and it’s fantastic. Ulmandra is absolutely adorable and I always look forward to when she’s on screen. The whole marriage misunderstanding is gold

Okay I’m gonna say it right out, this episode for the 90% of it did not happen in the manga. The ending with the demon lord, that conversation is what was supposed to urge Uchimura to go to the market because the demon lord wanted him to look into trade with another country in order to acquire gold, so yeah the conversation was reversed too. Now was the new content bad in comparison of the manga, no actually it’s really good, if anything I’m happy they did this. Some notable things were they did introduce butagalian in a different way because he comes up differently in the manga, my favorite big change was the fact they once again brought up the differences between the demihumans and demons plus to add to that they added Gnome and the holiday she mentions and all of that makes me look forward to what comes in the future because they’re giving her more spotlight. Something funny they changed was that when giving the wedding glass as a gift, in the manga Uchimura sold the one meant for the groom and it led to sad/mad ulmandra but I like that they kept that for the most part but changed it slightly for the situation. Last thing I’ll note of change because there’s a lot but I’m noting only some big parts, during the conversation with the demon lord instead of talent he said knowledge in the manga. I won’t put the long quote here but the things he said in the episode basically lead to the same idea, both are really great moments. Lastly my low-key favorite part of the episode and this was just a small design choice, the marriage fantasy ulmandra had, they did not need to give her that outfit but I’m glad they did. Cultured people made that.

Good episode but first I need to say poor Ulmandra. She really thought that Uchimura was taking her on a date. To buy wedding glasses after he had propose to her earlier, and then did a ritual of what couples do in a holiday. Her expression was so sad and ugly when she did find out that he had another thoughts in his mind. Uchimura really is a workaholic with nothing but work on his mind. Also Ulmandra indeed did look cute and beautiful in that outfit. But I would mind seeing her in that bikini outfit which was her first idea of an outfit for a date.

I don't think he is dumb but more about the cultural differences, he doesn't know that giving her the magic stone is a marriage proposal. And he just treat her as a coworker while she sees this as something different. Even in our world having man and woman working side by side as equal is a recent invention.
