WARNING: Not all Adirondack chairs are comfortable. If you'd like to build the most comfortable Adirondack chairs watch this!
I used plans and patterns from Woodcraft to build these Adirondack chairs. They were super easy to follow along and use.

Fun project! I sent a set of these plans to my grandpa and he made a set for their back patio. He said the pattern was so easy to use and if an 89 yr old can, anyone can. That’s the problem with a lot of woodworking patterns they look so intimidating and complex when they shouldn’t be, unless it’s for something that requires an extensive pattern.

These are almost an exact copy of the Norm Abram New Yankee Workshop chairs. I have those plans from way back. Yes they are comfortable.

Your chairs turned out amazing! I really like the fact that you used the plugs. It gives such a finished look! Thanks also for sharing with us the problems that you experience, so others who do the same project can hopefully avoid those same issues! Great idea to use the double sided tape on the pattern! Now, I just hope you'll take some time out of your busy schedule to sit in your wonderful new chairs and relax a few minutes! They're perfect for you and Buddy to enjoy an evening by the fire! Have fun!! God bless!!

I bought those plans many years ago when they came as cardboard templates and a DVD showing assembly. I nearly wore out those templates so I quickly made hardboard templates. Also, I figured out a couple of jigs to help hold things in place such as lining up the arms with the inside surface of the legs. Also, I put a 30 degree angle on the back support curve where the uprights attach. Over the years I’ve made at least twenty chairs, some of pine (big mistake if they are exposed to rain), pressure treated pine, and western red cedar. I even made a couple of new cypress, but they rotted within a year. Old reclaimed cypress would have been a better choice. Everyone says they are the most comfortable Adirondack chairs they have ever sat on.

I Like the music choice for this episode. Do you listen to music while in the workshop and if so, what kinds of music do you like? Also, When you pulled the tape from the block and the plugs came off in one swoop..... that must have been satisfying.....It was for me!

Clever idea with the washers on the carriage head bolts. I'll have to remember that one.

Have always wanted to build a couple of these, but have not found the time. May have to look at the plans and order if they aren't too bad. Then spend the next year buying a board here and a board there, so the wallet doesn't scream so loud at the price of wood.

I've made Adirondack chairs from this design for years - using the plans from The New Yankee Workshop - these are identical right down to the 27-degree angle. I have had great success making them out of 5/4 cedar deck boards - which are actually 1" in thickness. The cedar is light so the chair is still very light and easy to move and the 1" thickness on the boards makes the chair a little "beefier" in a really good way. And - the deck boards are easy to find.

The opening scene reminded me that there are DIY smokeless fire pits that you might want to look into. Would be perfect for your awesome backyard setup. Oh, and I noticed that Pabst sitting there as well. I grew up in western NY and that was my Dad’s beer of choice. 👍

Eric, don’t know if you remember me bro, but I’m finally coming to the end of my 3 year ordeal from my electrocution injury. My wife and I are on our way to Oregon on the beach to our Dream home/ surf shack/ fabrication studio/ farmstead. 1 of the first project I make in my wood side of the studio will be 4 of those chairs for the front porch of our farmhouse so my wife and I can sit and watch the storms develop over the ocean as I toast you and my father in law with a Pabst (his favorite soft drink). My greatest fear is that I have my fab studio built and I can’t suck it up and slap the fear out of my ass, and then never get after it again.

Eric - you spend all that time building chairs and an outdoor fireplace and then you sit around and drink Pabst? Surely there must be a place that sells real beer there.

Those are not comfortable Adirondack chairs. Yours have flat surfaces, which make for pressure points. Truly comfortable Adirondack chairs have curved (concave) backs and scooped (concave) butt seats.
@CraftsmansLegacy
@CraftsmansLegacy 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Kevin. The concave surfaces sound comfortable too. The chairs I build are definitely - The Most Comfortable 🙂
