I’m a very regular #25 user and I’m not surprised it made the top 3 most complained routes in the entire system. It one of the major routes to and from UBC that doesn’t use the articulated buses and doesn’t have the service frequency like the 49. You cant even get on a bus in the morning if you live close to campus and you also can’t leave campus if you don’t get at the bus loop. If this keeps up, people are gonna start using their own private vehicles and make congestion even worse than it is right now.

Same.. I’ve been lucky to get on from Blenheim to go to ubc and have always felt bad for the folks near camosun. Even at Blenheim the small buses were full half the time. At least they have 2 buses per 20 minutes now but still wish they had more. Like why not just 1 bus per 7 minutes like the rest of the ubc buses? Also 1 bus per 40 minutes at not even that late into the evening is pretty ridiculous. On top of that we got the king Ed construction which does not help at all

I used public transit for many years and it's always been a problem, not really a surprise to me that it has gotten worse. This was why 5 years ago I decided to move and walk to work then Covid happened and luckily we started working from home. Now that everyone seem to want people to come back to the workplaces to work (I don't know why when it is not really very efficient as we have learned from the few years of working from home), I guess this problem has cropped up again and this time it's gotten much worse as the population has gone bigger. Problem with Canada is that it is very reactive rather than proactive, it is why problems with public transportation, rent/housing crisis, etc. comes up when it is already worse.

Other hands, bus drivers have a lot of pressure due to over crowd. Trans link must fix this issues. One time I travelled with my 4 years daughter. The bus was full even there is no space. All the front sits are occupied by seniors and children. R1 bus driver allowed the stroller to get in the bus and all the old passengers has standing in the bus. If the bus was full and no space, bus driver should not allowed anybody. R1 bus driver made risk for senior citizens in transit. It’s totally unsafe. #translink

I've been taking transit here since 1989. Oh it was nice back then. I could bus from Broadway Station to UBC on the 99 and be there in 25 minutes 🤯!! Buses stopped to pick you up, they ran later.....it's like the more we pay the less we get. I really REALLY want government officials or whoever's on the funding for this to have to take transit for every trip they have to make for at least a month. Preferably three. Or six. Then maybe they'd realize what an issue it is.....when they have to deal with overcrowding and anger and rudeness and attitude every time they want to go somewhere. GRRRRRRRR. Now, I take Skytrain and walk from station as long as it's within half an hour or so. Buses are too crowded and rarely show up when app or Translink say they will, it's just frustrating and easier to walk. With these changes to zoning policy (ie build wtf you want wherever you want within 800 meters of any train station 😵🤬😠) im wondering if Translink realizes exactly how busy trains will be getting?? I mean for years I've had to backtrack from Stadium/Granville/Burrard to Waterfront so I can get an actual seat, what's it gonna be like when all this housing happens right next to EVERY station?

I mean they’ll be extending skytrain to Port Coquitlam station, but full on extension of Skytrain to Abbotsford or Chiliwack would be almost at least 2 hour trips if not an express train. Best way would be if they run WCE up to a Skytrain/WCE interchange and run all day service from there. Also, Abbotsford didn’t join Translink so it would be a bit harder to expand and coordinate services

The 395 is ridiculous and is never on time. The times it is supposed to come make no sense. I’ve complained over 100 times myself and nothing gets done. They just don’t care about their customers. This 364 stops running at 720pm on weekends? 501 only goes once an hour after 9pm on Saturday. The drivers just don’t stop sometimes and are apparently allowed to take longer breaks off they get back early and can just cancel a trip if they get back late. So why would they ever be on time? It’s more beneficial for their overpaid asses to be late or early. Makes zero sense. It’s atrocious how bad they are.

335 is really bad with crowding at either end of the route, not so much the middle. But especially at Newton Exchange, it’s like people have completely forgotten how to line up. Planners should have prioritized building Skytrain all the way to UBC, back in 1999 when the rest of the Millennium Line was done. The 99 is basically full from Broadway Station to UBC, almost every time. Aside from the 99, all the "rapid" east-west routes through Vancouver (25, 49, 100, etc.) are obscenely slow. Yet compared to North Vancouver and other suburbs, Vancouver residents are pampered. Try being in North Van and knowing there's a 75% chance your bust to Lonsdale Quay is going to be late and miss the Seabus connection? Try experiencing a southbound Ironworkers' delay and watching buses uselessly pile up along east Keith Road, realizing it might be faster to walk to Phibbs exchange than buses or cars can move. (Adding buses only works if they can actually move.) The 231 is a goddamned joke, going from Lonsdale Quay to the auto-mall (where thee city stupidly allowed a private high school to be built, and wants to build housing - it's industrial land!). Translink should make a bus route that goes along Esplanade, to 2nd/1st/Welch, and the back way to Park Royal. It's a long walk to Marine drive from that road, but busy with residents and workers (and 2 Squamish Nation reserves), yet they force all bus traffic to Marine and try to make it "rapid" down a very clogged street, then improvise this sad little 231 bus for the auto mall alone.

Aksay engages in a false equivalency when he reports D Agar "is worried about moving buses from one busy region to another ." Akshay ignores Surrey and Vancouver have comparable populations sizes but their is huge gap in Tranlink service devilry. Vancouver has 3 Sky Trian lines with fourth on a way to Surrey's 4 Skytrian stations but according to the CBC, Vancouver is the victim. Surrey's residences on forced into their car so their gas taxes can subsidize everyone else's transit - doesn't sound fair or environmentally sound. This part of the story shows CBC Vancouver bias against Surrey and Fraser Valley. Surrey has a large South Asian Punjabi Population and CBC does everything in their power to silence them. Some really problems iwith producers and editors at the CBC.

There are many worse buses in the city that didn't arrive on time at all, either 5 minutes earlier or with a 20-minute delay. It is impossible to be on time for important appointments. I'm surprised bus no. 17 is not on the top 10 list. It's a miracle if it arrives on time any day. Such a frustrating route.

Scott Road is insane: the drivers would be ahead of schedule and blow the stop, then 3 minutes later people woulld come down by the A. Fraser expecting the bus in five minutes. I'd have to tell them the bus was GONE. And back then in 2004 it was only ever HOUR.

why dont they have double deck buses like richmond?
@Wpdhsx

Double deckers operated from the Richmond depot ONLY. POCO and Hamilton are getting renovated so they could get double deckers. On the other hand, White Rock refuses to trim its tree branches thus not letting double deckers in their communities. Also, when the 321 was using articulated buses the city of white rock complained resulting in going back to using 40 ft buses

Having more than a few standees on a bus also makes station stops absurdly long. A train stop is usually no more than 20 seconds, compared to 90 seconds and more on a city bus. BRT tends to make travel worse than before, because the faster trips encourages more ridership, and thus more over-crowding. Line G in the San Fernando Valley is a great example of the BRT Scam in action.

Regarding funding, it's absurd when people think transit turning a profit or even breaking even is essential. Whilst this would obviously be preferred, nobody expects our roads to directly make money, let alone turn a profit, so expecting that of transit is silly. That being said, it's even more ridiculous on the government side of things how many transit stations, (Skytrain and bus,) are just single use islands with nothing else on them. Instead of raising rider costs beyond belief, raise the revenue through no-brainer sources like effective land use! There's so much land in the system and so little of it is being used to make money. EVERY Skytrain station and EVERY parking lot bus station should have multi-use buildings above them. Every single one should have AT LEAST rental housing above them, and ideally some businesses at street level. Not only would this build in ridership, but it would be a continuous source of revenue for the system. The most absurd cases are places like Broadway-City Hall. How the heck did it get approved to build such a tiny and wasteful station entrance at one of the city's busiest intersections like we have?! Small station AND no business or housing on it? Horrendous planning.

Lol, you guys think Surrey buses are full?! Try taking transit in Brampton, there are times during the day EVERYDAY, where 4 buses packed like sardines will pass before you get a chance to even hope to get on a bus, on all different routes. Even the very last bus on the route will be full like sardines and people have to Uber home.

No it wouldn’t, a Surrey LRT wouldn’t be faster especially when it faced with being the mode of transit connecting to Langley. Drivers already hate having their lanes taken away for transit, if TransLink had more money there’d be a skytrain to Guildford, Newton, and White rock by now. It was even out in a study that it wouldn’t even have much of a difference with capacity and travel times
@stpat7614

Skytrain is too expensive to build everywhere. It's been shown that taking away lanes of traffic does not increase congestion. In fact these roads were in most cases originally created for LRT.@@TheRandCrews
@TheRandCrews
@TheRandCrews 5 ай бұрын
@@stpat7614 I never said anything about increase of congestion for taking lanes away, Vancouver is a car centric city, many drivers would be up and arms for any lanes used for transit. It is questionable on how people would react to the BRT plans of TransLink for Surrey, North Vancouver. Skytrain works and is expensive due to having its own dedicated right of ways. They’re already building a new maintenance yard for skytrain expansions, having an LRT would be need a new yard, transit signal priority lights, and an increase operating costs with drivers compared to automated. As much as I’d want to see a Newton to Guildford LRT, it’s infeasible to the constraints Translink has with funding. Other LRT systems in Canada are mix of street running, dedicated right of ways, and freight ROW, Finch & Eglinton LRT would be the basis if they want to follow with that approach, which yet has been in service.

Its time to drop the gas tax for transit as that tax has been decreasing for years as the people drive less or move to electric cars. Something like a regional sales tax may provide more sustainable revenue.
