@sepehryekebash6 ай бұрын
Couple of questions: 1: how did you start machining without taking the work piece reference point? Is the machine equipped with a smart laser guided sensor or something like that? 2: why is such a large complex part being machined as a single monolithic part instead of several smaller parts that are attached to each other?
@barrysetzer6 ай бұрын
Although it wasnt shown in the video, we did take a reference point off the part using an integrated spindle probe. And usually this style of part is made as a single piece. Im not really sure why, as there are some things made as multiple parts like a blisk, or bladed disk.

@alexnicholson87176 ай бұрын
Can we see this one start to finish instead of little bits of an uncompleted job?
@barrysetzer6 ай бұрын
The challenge is that finishing is typically boring. Little cuts that take forever. And noone wants to watch a 40 hour long video of that......We do show finishing on things like the grille we did for gas monkey, and other stuff, but its kinda a catch 22. Consider the amount of storage space needed when you have 4 cameras recording in 4k for 40 hours. And all the battery changes. But this part we will likely show finished.
@alexnicholson87176 ай бұрын
Well I absolutely didn’t expect you to reply! I fully appreciate the amount of effort that goes in to making these videos, it’s quite some effort. However we often see parts that don’t really get completed. I’m also aware that most people watching these videos have probably never even seen a CNC never mind operated one. Contrary to that though, there is a percentage of viewers that are machinists and would absolutely love to see that whole thing! Possibly a longer format for the purists and the short form for entertainment side of things?

In aluminium it's a very do-able part, with it's own challenges like holding tolerance in a free state. How it would be tackled in 718 inconel would be allot more interesting to see, especially if it had to make 30 or 100 of them. Roughing deep like that with ceramics, in inconel would be extremely challenging. I've been working on inconel plates and struggling to break the 90 minutes in cut tool life out of a 10mm endmill. show us the drawings and the tolerances! just machining shapes are no hard......
@barrysetzer6 ай бұрын
I machined impellers for years. They had profile of a surface on the blades of .01", concentricity between the OD and spline minor diameter of .0002", Perpendicularity of the spline axis to bottom floor of .0002", blade thickness of +.01 to -.005. The blades would droop as they were machined, so we had to manipulate the points at the leading edge so that they would land in the correct position as they were machined. So I know ALL about blade geometry and how to machine these type of parts. But hey if you want to make a KZbin channel where you discuss drawings and tolerances, good luck on your dozens of views!!!
