@timebomb42
@timebomb42 Ай бұрын
@aaronsams8605...... Josh Pate did a video on that subject a long time ago, from what I could gather, Oklahoma and Texas were getting ready to head for the pac-12. And with Missouri and a&m also threatening to leave, it seemed as if the Big 12 was going to collapse, so Nebraska wanted to make sure they had a landing spot. Ultimately the four teams (colorado, Texas a&m, missouri, nebraska.) ended up jumping ship anyway only for the texas-oklahoma pac-12 deal to fall through due to the longhorn Network. Texas and Oklahoma ultimately leave for the SEC in the end...... And that's how a conference loses most of its historically dominant teams.

The entire SEC this year was confusing. Bama beats Georgia. So they're top dogs right? No, they lose to Vandy. We'll, Vandy is good then! Nope, they're average. Then what about Georgia? Oh yeah, they beat Texas, but lost to Ole Miss. Then the Rebels must be the best team, right? Nah, they lost to Kentucky and LSU. The Tigers? Blown out by A&M and company. The Aggies? Lost to South Carolina. And it just keeps going! What a regular season it's been.

Nah I don't think it's that confusing really. Teams in the SEC have a lot of talent. Some of these games had rivalry mentality. Georgia got bama and ole miss' best game. Kiffin even mentioned dedicating a portion of practice every day to beating Georgia all season. You can put everything into beating a particular team but only a good team/ program can dominate everyone on their schedule. The aggies lost to scar because scar has a good team and didn't put it all together until the end of the season. Not that the transitive property matters in cfb but scar also beat Clemson, which is currently in the playoffs. I believe if you put ole miss in the mountain west, bama in the big12 and south Carolina in the acc then all of those teams would be in the playoffs right now. Vandy had a great unexpected season too. Bama is riding on talent alone at the moment. Coaching is subpar. Bama is on the decline. Might take years to see it though
@IanUtter-e2x
@IanUtter-e2x 26 күн бұрын
@@Joe.H.I agree it may not be clear now but yeah Bamas decline after ruling this sport for a decade and a half is just slowly beginning. You beat Georgia but then you lose to Vanderbilt and you lose to a 6-6 Oklahoma team so yeah it’s the beginning of the end for Alabama dominance. Maybe they’ll be in slow decline and realize they were that good because of Saban. It took forever for the other team who dominated football for a decade or 2 which was the Patriots to realize they were only that good because of you know who. So yeah just like the Patriots it’ll be a slow decline and then come into realization. But also don’t forget it was basically this new reality of college football that pretty much drove him out and now Dabo Swinney and Lane Kiffin are the only few coaches left who’ve been coaching since the BCS era so yeah all the teams who’ve been dominating since then are slowly on the decline and headed for strange directions. But yeah because of this new reality that’s pretty much what’s happening
@Joe.H.
@Joe.H. 26 күн бұрын
@IanUtter-e2x yeah. For what it's worth bama being on the "decline" is relative. They had set the bar as high as you can. I think an honorable mention goes to Kansas as well. They basically looked lifeless all year but ended the year by essentially knocking out 3 of the 4 big 12 playoff contenders in consecutive weeks. Prior to those wins, there was a shot that the big 12 could somehow get 2-3 teams into the playoffs, but now they’re looking at their conference champ likely getting the lowly 12th seed barring a unlv upset

Maybe it’s a hot take but I think Cal is a better team than they seem at first glance. I’m not saying they’re great, and yeah, they won two conference games and lost inexplicably to Florida State (something no other FBS team accomplished this year), but five of six of their losses were one score games (including to Miami by 1 point, at Pitt-when-they-were-still-good by 2, and Syracuse by 8) the exception being on the road at SMU, which did similar things to the rest of the ACC. In early November they were 9 points from undefeated.

Oklahoma State is a FASCINATING team this year to me and hasn’t gotten enough coverage. As someone from the Midwest I certainly haven’t paid them enough attention. They played one of the most unbalanced conference schedules I’ve ever seen and at some point, loss after loss stacked up to break their spirits and they just gave up it seemed like. Their record does not do them justice to how close they played against all the top teams and they only played one game against a team in the bottom half of their conference

Weirdest loss prediction: ND vs NIU. MAC schools were literally 0-59. They were paid millions to come play. It was literally the textbook definition of a should-win game. Edit: Being right never hurt so much. Why did ND lose that game? It's obvious. The players got rewarded for their win at A&M and slacked off for the week. No matter what anyone says. Even if physically they prepared the same as any other week, which I HIGHLY doubt is the case, mentally speaking, they were clearly checked out in that game, until it was too late.

TN-Arkansas made zero sense to me, until I found out ~3/4 of the TN offense, and a good chunk of the defense, were recovering from the flu.

I dont care what anyone says. That NIU loss was a gift in a way. It awakened the team and they started steamrolling everyone. So in a way, im thankful but also not because i was in attendance XD

Nebraska Colorado game ain’t that weird. It was the biggest home game at Nebraska in years. Nebraska matched up well against Colorado and could beat them again. Nebraska also played in a significantly harder conference than Colorado.

As soon as ND lost to NIU, I had no hope for the playoffs, then they absolutely Thrashed the rest of their schedule (except Louisville and USC) and now ND's a Title Favorite for some people and I'm just left here thinking "How in the Hell did ND lose that game?"

This is exactly why the selection committee gets torn apart based on their selection of the top 12 playoff teams. Everyone thinks they have the best answer as to why their team should be in the playoffs, but if they are all as expert as they claim to be, they should all come up with the same teams in the same slot and predict accurately the winner of each of the 11 games. But the intangibles are always lurking, So it’s really just a futile exercise. For me, I just like watching good football. But I hope there is no collapse like the Yankees in the World Series. However. I would not have expected that poor performance from such a talented team, but no one predicted that collapse.

I think wazzu losing to New Mexico and ruining their chances of the cfp should’ve been mentioned. Their only loss up to that point was Boise state and had such an easy path to 11-1 then the lobos game happened and it screwed them up so much they ended up losing to Oregon state

Without a doubt my most absurd bet of the year was on week 2 CFB: 3 Leg parlay, odds listed here are boosted, in reality the odds were 50% shorter K State ML vs Tulane -256✅( Tulane were better, refs robbed it) OKST ML vs ARK -235 LMFAO✅ and the shortest odds of all ND alt line -16.5 vs NIU at -340 ❌

I watched every game this season for the Huskers. They are better than what coaching allowed them to be, up until Holgerson took over as OC. They had a way more difficult schedule compared to Colorado. They rightfully beat UTEP, Colorado, and UNI. They rightfully lost to Illinois because they weren’t disciplined on defense, their penalties gave freebies to Illinois that kept putting them in position to score the entire game. They rightfully beat Purdue. The team slowed down because of bad play calling by the OC starting against Rutgers. Call that mid season slump, but there’s at least an explanation. That mid season slump from poor play calling caused us to get whooped by Indiana, but I concede we would’ve lost that game regardless. Indiana is talented this year. We should’ve beat Ohio State, even with the mid season slump. It was clear sabotage by the refs that forced Ohio State to win. Ohio State should’ve lost that game. We should’ve beat UCLA, poor play calling lost us this game. Luck won USC that game, they got a bunch of weird plays that worked out for them, but you can’t choose luck, so I concede that loss. However, with Holgerson becoming our OC, the play calling looked every bit like the early season and how we should’ve played all year. Against Wisconsin, Holgerson did the right play calling for our team, and this is what we should’ve looked like against Rutgers, Indiana, Ohio State, and UCLA. Maybe not the score, but how we played. Iowa is a well coached and disciplined team. They earned that win, even if it’s annoying as hell. At the very least, this team would’ve been 8-4 if the right play calls would’ve properly matched the talent of this team. This would’ve included wins against Colorado and Ohio State. On to next year, Holgerson is signed on for two more years, and he knows how to use Riaola better. There may have been other reasons for the slump. No disrespect meant to anybody else. I just want to leave off by knowing the team is talented, and is moving in the right direction. If nobody sees that, then hopefully they’ll see soon enough.
