a cloth pad would have to be exceedingly good to get me to switch from glass. mainly due to the non gameplay related aspects of living with glass, like the fact that the pad doesn't wear down over time, doesn't lose speed with cleaning and maintenance is so much much easier to the point that I can fully clean the pad to get that "like new" feeling literally 5 minutes before a scrim, etc. edit: also with glass speed doesn't vary with humidity
@pinguefied25 күн бұрын
quite fair, i imagine humidity must be pretty annoying where you live too. while i agree that glass pads are objectively better in terms of durability, i think cloth slowing down is a bit of an overblown issue. if you main glass you'll experience slowdown in the form of skate wear too, but you don't really notice bc it's so gradual. it's cheaper to replace skates, but it still does mandate replacing them fairly often if you want that "like-new" speed again. while day to day variations are more common with cloth, you will adapt to them subconsciously. unless you live a really humid environment, i don't think the "glass will be the same experience every single time you play" has that much practical benefit.
@twpsyn25 күн бұрын
@@pinguefied yeah it definitely made me more picky when it came to buying my first pad here when I got back into gaming during covid, I knew I'd have a miserable time if I just went and bought another steelseries qck heavy lol. in the end I went with a zowie gtfx which I honestly loved and I wish more people knew about it and sung it's praises, was a really nice middleground between cloth/hardpads where the mouse didn't dig into the surface much with a lot of pressure. eventually it developed slow spots with frequent use and multiple cleans after ~3 years though
@twpsyn24 күн бұрын
@@pinguefied to be fair I've never used a cloth pad with a sleeve, might just be the case that day to day variations on cloth are less noticeable with a decent sleeve mitigating that also wrt skate wear slowing down over time on glass, since that happens on the mouse itself imo it's much more manageable since there are no slow spots on more heavily used portions of the pad. with cloth pads that gets particularly annoying for me since I very rarely change my peripherals unless they wear out to the point of becoming a major annoyance. since ~2011 I've only bought 4 pads total going from a goliathus speed to a qck heavy to the zowie gtfx and then to the skypad 3 (and the only reason I changed from the qck was due to moving to malta and not bringing my PC stuff lol)

It's interesting to hear your takes about the differences. I've also tried a handful of mouse pads over the years including about 3 different artisan pads and I still highly prefer my glass pad. Now I haven't tried this one specifically but the idea and technology is neat, but I know it will still have a lot of the same issues as other cloth pads mainly with long term use wear & tear. I feel like the combination of mouse, skates, and pad I've settled on has been fine tuned over the years. My main gripe with anything cloth is just the inconsistency. The less variables I have in my "aim experiment" the easier it is to find and fix perceived issues. At the end of the day it just comes down to preference and what your goals are. Some FPS player had a bio similar to this on Discord and it lives in my head rent free "Never stop changing your settings gamers. We are all just one placebo away from generational greatness"
@pinguefied5 күн бұрын
fair enough, if you're dead set on glass then then ofc this isn't for you haha i agree with the consistency argument in principle, but glass will have issues with skate wear changing the friction of the pad over time too, and like cloth, it's so gradual that it really makes no difference. ofc it's cheaper to replace skates than a whole pad, but the timeline is also much longer. i don't think it's as big of an issue as most ppl depict it as
@64Talon5 күн бұрын
@@pinguefied oh yeah it's not a huge deal either way haha I really believe it just comes down to preference at the end of the day. I don't think there's a "right" or "wrong" pad unless you're using a stuffed animal ;) But yeah I have about 10 sets of skates for my mouse just sitting on my shelf and when I start to notice the glide starting to go I'll just replace them. Takes maybe 3 minutes and they're less than $3 per pair of skates.

currrently running an xsoft k83 with artisan dots setup with 2 dots touching on the top 2 corners + 2 dots bottom corners about a dot size apart and this is easily the most unique experience I have gotten from any artisan product / any aim related peripheral ever. The plushness of the xsoft barely slows down speed if at all with this combo and it is a very very odd experience 10/10 recommend trying this out if you want something unique! W Video tho🤝

got the same issue with turning back to cloth. I really like the quietness of it. but when it comes to aiming, all the pads just feel muddy, even my Raiden XSOFT. Although I use the Kazemi which isn't the fastest glass pad out there. And the point that glass will never wear down, is another aspect. I paid a lot of money for it, but it will never get worse if I don't treat it too harsh... but still hard to resist buying a MID Artisan Pad and/or the Vaxee PD.... damn...

Tbh as someone who switches between different glass and cloth pads I could say the same for my Hien or any of the pads I own, Hien is just my favourite from Artisan specifically. Never liked the Otsu so I kinda don't even wanna spend money on this one since people have been saying it's like a slightly slower Otsu. Don't feel like my performance is hindered by any surface unless you force me to use some cheap mousepad that gets dead spots in less than 4 weeks.

i don't think it's that similar to the otsu in terms of friction balance, but i'm glad you're happy with what u got :D

@pinguefied Yeah like it's not exactly an Otsu I know people say it's like in between Zero and Otsu. I don't understand how everyone says the Key83 is so good for its directional consistency. I got my Key83 soft and the x-y difference is so noticeable I was extremely disappointed after seeing every other review saying that it's the most directionally consistent cloth pad. Not sure if it's just my copy or the pad's just like this but either way it's just not it
@pinguefied25 күн бұрын
maybe it's because you're accustomed to slower y movements and this one is slightly faster y than x, so it feels more substantial? or it could be your copy, idk

@@pinguefied I just tested a few of my favourite mousepads to compare it with the Key83, the zero soft and venus pro. I tested them by using them normally vs using them 90 degrees flipped. Zero soft had slightly slower X than Y and venus pro had slightly faster X than Y, but in normal use, I don't notice the X-Y difference at all probably because of how the differences aren't as huge. Swapping between the two I also didn't have any problems despite the X-Y speeds being opposite to each other. I came to a conclusion that small X-Y differences in pads aren't as noticeable to me regardless of whether X is faster than Y or vice versa, but the fact that the Key83's X-Y difference is noticeable to me just.. disregards the whole purpose for me to buy this mousepad. This is my experience on the Key83 soft and I am aware that it's not supposed to have 0% X-Y difference and others' experiences could be different, but I just wanted to share my experiences + I had nowhere to vent my disappointment on this pad after hearing so much good things about it. It's cool that you found a cloth pad you can enjoy again, and really great video! However, I am concerned with longevity. Pads always feel great in the first 2-6 weeks, and then slowly degrade from there. If you're still on this thing 2-3 months from now, and still find it just as consistent, it will be a miracle for cloth. That's why glass is kind of still king imo. Unless you are ok with buying 4 key 83's every year, I doubt it will ever reach the level of consistency of glass.

just picked up a hayate otsu xsoft recently wonder how this and other new artisan pads would compare its super fast until its not after you reach a certain point of speed you begin to immediately feel that "textured" feeling this also happens if you press into the pad harder at less speed depending on how much you press into it what id be most curious in seeing is how it would feel to have that specific weave or say an otsu or zero etc with this added weave if it has all net positives that is its possible some people may not appreciate having that extra dexterity in diagonal movements but to me it sounds really fun to use if the otsu had the capability to move that way it would be very interesting although i like the way it is ive been using a faster sens since i got the pad for multiple reasons but it still is more controlled than my old muddy amazon pad while remaining lightning fast its super easy to stop even when playing on ludicrous sensitivities but i can imagine this pad being playable on ultra low sensitivities as well so its really balanced in both directions and could probably be used by just about anyone although i have no experience with other artisian mousepads this feels like it falls under a category of its fast while being controllable enough for 99% of people so long as they use the proper mouse combination that works for them like if you cant handle a really fast surface than a ultra lightweight 30gram fingertip mouse combo with this on a fast sensitivity might be difficult to control although i am running a lamzu maya fnatic edition (smol not the x variant also webbased is annoying lemme know if i made the right choice lol i tried to pick the one that would fit me better but there wasnt that much info on the real differences aside from the actual size anyways) so 45grams + really fast sensitivity + hayate otsu even an Xsoft otsu is probably faster than a mid zero but i have not a clue on that so decent little speed combo still controllable great pad would rec probably any artisan products 👍

I have most of the common artisan pads, zero, otsu, hien and raiden all soft. Most time with the hien but I really like the raiden. I never tried a mid pad but I like the sound of a bit slower raiden. I tried the lamzu energon before the raiden which made me like faster pads more than control. I have no issues with using the raiden but since I seen the key83 it got me considering it but can’t decide if I should go try a mid pad or stick with soft. I also fingertip, use tiger ice skates with op1 8k around 1600 dpi 32-38cm. I play fps mainly tarkov so I find the faster pad suits that game for flicking to targets. Is it really worth giving the key-83 a go if I have all these pads already? If I go soft I am looking at otsu/hien speed or mid closer to raiden but with either a bit more control than I would get with the raiden? I don’t think I press down into the pad much but the part where you say tensing up can cause it could be where I would benefit from mid as maybe I do that from time to time without realising it.

Will you be trying out the lgg Hyperion? From what I’m reading, it’ll be similar to the zero but will be slightly faster so somewhere along the speed of the key83. As much as I love artisan pads, I do wish they made desk pads since I miss having the space of deskpads after switching to the cerapad kin; and the Hyperion will have a deskpad size which I’ll like if it performs similarly to the key 83. I’ve already tried the Saturn pro deskpad, was too slow for me and before I got the kin, I was on a fx zero soft xl but didn’t like the hair sticking on to the pad. I was very ocd aware about it and didn’t let me fully focus while gaming. A personal issue but I do like to keep my workstation as a clean and minimal as possible.
@pinguefied17 күн бұрын
god yeah i miss desk pads too :( maybe i'll give it a go with that in mind, thank you!! that said, the sleeve compatibility is like 90% of the reason i use the key83, i don't think any other cloth pad can do that
@HeyNavi17 күн бұрын
@ same! For me, not having to worry about mousepad/mouse placement is a necessity and with deskpads, I just plop them down and they cover my entire desk. Even with my kin osmium, I HAVE to have it in the perfect spot. Otherwise it’ll either be too far or too close; too high or too low. I’ll look forward to your review if you ever get your hands on it. For now, I’m holding off until the Hyperion to release. I have my eyes on the key83 soft/mid, Hyperion deskpad soft and maybe the Neptune pro deskpad soft. Amazing reviews as always!

depends what you're looking for out of your pad! i still don't really like controlled skates on the sp4 , but i haven't tried the obsidian pro airs to know how much they've improved over the normal pros. i think the skates i had the best exp with on that pad are the ultraglide rennsports ii's (absurdly smooth, slightly more controlled than jades but not muddy) and the obsidian airs (slower across the board and doesn't make the pad feel like an air hockey table like the red obsidians)

mine just arrived, have you noticed some weirdness related to dot skate positions, that make the pads friction feel more inconsistent? I'm using jades and not artisans, maybe it's the weave and the dot positions. Also you have the pad vertical because it's smoother that way right? feels more hockey table for X axis aligned the way you have it.
@pinguefied13 күн бұрын
inconsistent how? i have it vertical because it makes the sleeves compatible for me, not rly for the pad friction itself
@puchigire13 күн бұрын
the top 2 dots has more friction than the bottom 2 dots, because the bottom 2 are placed further apart on my hsk pro against the weave. It doesn't really change how it moves, it just makes the mouse have more tactile feedback at the top/feels more top heavy vs the sp004

I relate a lot about having issues with your arm feeling stuck in the mud with cloth. Were you able to find any solutions with your time with a hien? Do you think the mid/soft variants of the key83 can impact sleeve compatibility or the feeling of arm being stuck to the pad?

no :( the closest thing i had to a solution was buying a roll of uhmw tape and attaching it to my sweater lmao. the procision was okay on a few cloth pads too i had way more luck with the key83 mid in terms of sleeve compatibility. it might just be the plushness of the soft allowing my arm to press into the pad under pressure and get stuck though

What aspects of your aim did you feel were limited by glass? I play on a skypad 3.0 and feel that the lack of confidence in my wide flicks is really the only downside.
@pinguefied19 күн бұрын
- tension management on wide flicks, it was rly difficult to stop the mouse without tension and since target switching was my current focus, it was an important downside to me. i wouldn't say i wasn't confident on wide flicks, but i was not confident in being able to track after the wide flick ended. and yeah, generally pushing speed is harder as a result of the lack of friction to work with. - the amount of pad feedback you get is usually not to the same extent of textured cloth pads like the key83 or otsu. the way finger dragging works is also fundamentally different, where it helps with hard stops but is awkward with braking for more continuous motions. with cloth i'm able to glide my fingers on the pad and not affect my aim at all, but with glass, i have to have it not make contact outside of using them for stopping. - skill variance. i've been a bit more anxious lately and my readjustments in tracking occasionally got a bit too aggressive with glass; it's nice to have a little bit of extra stability from the pad on days like that. - flick-micro blending. due to bunch of factors like tension management and feedback, having both snappy but seamless micros post-flick is notably harder on glass, which is why static is such a difficult category for it. - generally microadjustments with glass is a mixed bag. on one hand it's really easy to start the motions and easy to remain fluid, but on the other hand, it's difficult to be as confident and stable with faster ones. i felt like a balanced pad could theoretically give the best of both worlds. - thanks to the higher friction and the ease of finger drag, the tension release becomes a much easier technique to pull off with cloth. this is the main reason why i wanted to give cloth a proper go. - a lot of the popular glass pads feel a tad bit small for me x_x

Based on your experience using a glass pad, what mouse feet would you recommend in terms of durability? Nice vid
@pinguefied25 күн бұрын
for durability ur probably out of luck, even if skates don't physically wear down a lot they still tend to slow down :( the plastix and uhmw skates all were a bit too slow or scratchy for me, but if you're on an ultra fast/smooth pad, you might be able to get away with it. i haven't tried the obsidian pro airs either, mayb they have improved them.
@pinguefied25 күн бұрын
personally my recommendation is to just get a ton of aliexpress skates. ultraglides are really solid: the rennsport II's impressed me a lot on the skypad 4, and before that i was just cycling through ultraglide speeds whenever they would get slower than i'd like. you can get a ton of them for quite cheap, i think it's a rly good solution

my very brief thoughts from extremely insufficient testing (about 5 minutes of gunfire with fresh jades) - i am not a fan of the kanami sai. it is a lot slower than i expected, but not in a way that feels productive? static, dynamic, and even the feel on my arm, it all feels like the pad is fighting my mouse movements in some way. very strange feeling from a glass pad, and i'd need some more time with it to figure out why it feels so sluggish to me, but it's like i'm trying to fight a magnetic force: a constant pull in the opposite direction that makes me really uncertain of all my mouse movements. it is quite smooth though!! it's also a bit smaller than the beast, while being about double the thickness. - the beast is faster, more textured, and more responsive. it lets your mouse control shine though very well, but also showcases all of the inaccuracies in your aim.
@LeonidEr23 күн бұрын
