@@c2023r honestly about 67%,. I seem to be having a problem most don't..hahaha. It seems most ppl get a higher humidity from whichever boveda they use but I get 2-3% lower using a 69. I have to say I’m new to cigars. Only 6 months in. Like most new hobbies (especially those that can get expensive) I tend to get really invested and research the shit out of them. However; I can’t believe I stumbled upon this trick based on everything I learned through my own research. (Small pat on the back) Not smoking too fast as to make sure the cigar doesn’t become too hot. Figuring out that the cigar should burn naturally and you only want fresh smoke to be pulled in during a draw. So try to eliminate or really restrict any unused smoke in the body of the cigar. I realized that my smoking habits have not perfected yet so I found myself taking extra puffs to keep the cigar lit. That bad habit caused unwanted heat and smoke, so why not lightly blow it back out occasionally… 💡 I became a little self conscious about this even though I found it worked. Low and behold, it’s actually called something (purging) and it totally makes sense! Though, I did forget one golden rule about smoking cigars and that is don’t criticize people’s smoking styles and habits. Especially at a cigar lounge! Everyone has their way and we should enjoy our stick the way we want! Happy puffs everyone 😙💨

I’ll try this when I get home. I might not have the best pallet for enjoying cigars so every one I try seems to have a skanky taste towards the last 1/3 or 1/4 of the cigar. My favorite cigar by far has been the Tebak Especial by Drew Estate though I have many more to try in my collection. I prefer a smooth, buttery mellow cigar over the spicy harsh ones

Another great benefit, especially in the last third is, it pulls the heat out of the draw so it's not too hot. If I'm having a great stick and don't want to let it go but it's too hot to enjoy, I'll blow thru the cigar and get a few more final delicious draws. Cheers.

The first time I heard of purging was on Steven crowders mug club ash Wednesday podcast. I tried it a few times since then and I agree. It definitely helps reinvigorate the cigar at times. I also. Noticed though, if you do it too much, it adds to the humidity in the cigar and can mess up the draw. But I do recommend purging once in a while.

Absolutely the best practice to save a cigar is purging. I have saved countless cigars doing this when that danky bitterness kicks in. Especially when the cherry is too hot (purging cools it), after smoking too quickly or when the cigar is over-hydrated - I just cut the tip off the cigar and purge away..

Just like creating flames from embers of a campfire, you're actually creating a miniature pressure system. Even though we exhale carbon dioxide there will always be a mixture of oxygen. It is feeding oxygen more consistently into the embers which creates its own system for a sustainable flame.

I purge almost after every puff. If I see any smoke rolling out after a pull (especially towards the end), I’ll purge the cigar. I think the smoke that sits inside after a pull, fouls the cigar a bit. And I almost never smoke more than 2/3 of the cigar to prevent that after taste from smoking.

The only thing purging does is clear the smoke left in the cigar from the last pull you took, the flame at the end of the cigar you saw was just the oxygen you were blowing through it feeding the flame also that “skankyness” you speak of is just tabacco residue buildup in the cigar which can’t be fixed by doing this. great vids by the way 👍 this is all info I’m sure know

It's partially combusted organic matter Smoke isn't a gas, it's very fine particulates, usually not fully combusted fuel. It's still very flammable, just like the dust in a grain silo. You're just burning the leftover fuel by blowing through the cigar. Could be that You're just pushing smoke settled on the tobacco leaves from the first ⅔rds

I’ve purged cigars when they don’t taste right for years. It works, can’t imagine why it would be controversial. I don’t see the need to light it since by then whatever is burning is no longer in the cigar so what happens to it in the atmosphere is irrelevant. The most it can possibly do is tell you when to stop.

Here’s my two cents……I feel like the biggest thing purging does is push the heat away from the tobacco. Anytime you over heat your cigar it seems to get harsh and bitter. With a good purge, you are kinda “back flushing” the heat, along with any tar, and nicotine build up back through the foot. Tim is absolutely right, it does work, despite what any “aficionado” says!
@napoleonbonerfart278

Its not burning off anything special. Its just like blowing into a fire, it gets hotter, hence the fire at the end. However, your breath has a lot of moisture. That def could have something to do with the taste.
