Nick Carl and I did some field work during the hottest part of the day in August, and we tested out "sticky stuff." If you don't know it's any products pitchers use to help get more rotation on the ball, but a majority of it is banned. We wanted to test how it would transfer over to disc golf, enjoy!

As someone who used rosin bags for years. I don’t understand it being considered a grip aid. It’s more like chalk when it’s in those bags and allows for clean releases but you can’t put as much on it. Just like Paul said at the end, it can take away any stickiness from other stuff. So it’s really a safe thing for pitchers to use but only after using too much sticky stuff haha

If you let the rosin from the rosin bag go on a little thick and let it dry out your hand it creates more tack than what you were experiencing, I think. I tried this but once I started using it in a round if I stopped my hand became like glue. Might be worth using through like 5 holes.

Have you guys ever used Dry Hands? It's chalk suspended in alcohol - the alcohol dries out your hands and makes sweat/water evaporate off it super fast, and leaves a thin chalk residue. I used to use it when I played ultimate (getting sweaty running around for 4 hours while still needing to throw a disk) - i'd put it halfway to my elbow and my hands would stay dry for at least half an hour.

Think you need a part 2. I can see how it might help with shots off the tee, but if it's still on your hands when you putt, it's probably going to negatively effect your putting. I'm sure that stuff left a sticky residue on your discs also. I wonder what discs are like after a several applications. Does dirt and grass stick to discs afterwards? Does the sticky stuff get all over backpack (or cart), towels, and everything you touch?

Putting straight rosin on your hands will make the disc feel more slippery since you're basically putting a layer of power between your fingertips and the surface of the disc. If you put a dab of sunscreen on your hands (spread it a bit but don't rub it all the way in), then hit the rosin bag, then rub it all together, you should get a nice sticky feeling. You can do this mixture on your arm somewhere to make a bit of a reserve you can go back to over and over.

I think dry hands are more effective then any stick substance for discgolf. It might give you a bit extra distance but anything sticky is going to mess with your release point. Baseball pitchers that use it (illegally) do not have to have same throwing motion as disc golf (obviously) and dg is more reliant on the thrower's touch to get the right flight pattern.

I do the same now when I throw discs. I never felt like I needed more grip on anything, ever. I feel like I was blessed with strong, dry hands that grip things just fine in the summer heat and humidity. Now I have moved to where part of the year it will be cold. Completely changes things for throwing discs, and I'm not sure how I'll handle the cold. Might try some pelican wax for the cold, rainy days?

I imagine the wax and pine tar would probably stiffen up in the cold and wet, but should still provide an aggressive grip. However, with how the skin of the hand and fingers get soft, I'd be concerned with splitting skin. I tend to wrap my index finger with 3M micropore paper tape to protect the skin on my index from splitting at the cuticle.

Not sure the rules now, and am too lazy to look them up, but it used to be that you could use anything for grip in disc golf so long as you add it to your hand first, and not the disc first. There was a guy who would add stickum to his hands and then apply it to his discs. Not against the rules but he would have a pile of what seemed like rubber cement on his discs. Not saying who it was, but he helped write the rules as he was a big deal in the community back in the day.

I use gymnast chalk because I have pretty sweaty hands in the summer. I started with Rosen sacks and they helped me a lot to just make sure my hand was dry. Nikko also uses maybe excessively but I think some players benefit from it for sure.

Fyi, with the rosin, your supposed to put a gob of sunscreen on your arm, then pick the rosin bag up... The combination makes it tacky yet a smooth release...

Can we see results in a table? What percentage did each increase/decrease the throw length, please. FYI, I've surfed for 25 years, I find Mrs. Palmers the best commercially available surf wax, however the stickiest is homemade surf wax: 75% bees wax, 25% pine rosin. cheers
