I am normally a very silent follower of your channel for the last few years now because I always feel self-conscious about leaving a comment. But I have been slowly catching up on your videos and savoring them this past month and they are such a treat! Morgan, you did such a lovely job interviewing each of these people. I love local small bookstores. I work at a library and while I will never not appreciate being able to get the majority of my reading material for free, I still love buying books and supporting bookstores. This was a fun little video. Also, the color of that sweater and lipstick suits you so well!

As a long time Annie Bloom’s patron a few facts: 1. They have an educator’s discount. 2. They can special order anything- usually just takes a few days to arrive. 3. They have a loyalty program. For everyone $100 you spend, you get $5 back. 4. They used to have a precious cat named Molly who lived there. RIP Molly!

Our sweet brave girl 🩵 *tight hugs!* How courageous you've been 😊 I'm so very proud that you introduced yourself to new people...and new book stores. My coworker, when she opened up the little fabric shop I worked at every morning some years ago, would always insist on greeting the store and singing a little tune to make the spirits within happy. How much joy must a book store have watching readers peruse, gush, cry, get upset, and swoon over their paper children?

I wish I could have gone with you to these shops! I spotted so many good ones I've read, both in general and of the staff recos, and I would have tried hard not to overwhelm you with all the books I'd press into your hands. I too love to ask staff I've never met for their recommendations. I love being surprised by books I wouldn't have picked up on my own. Ah, if I could have any business, it would be a bookstore! I've worked at several, but also at libraries, and I'm a copyeditor. Books have been my life and passion for over 45 years. What a fun video and I love that you're discovering more new shops!

You probably have the best recommendations! Your excitement over reading is wonderfully contagious!
@stephvandermeulen95872 ай бұрын
@@MorganLong One of the best feelings I have is coming into my living room where I have a wall of bookshelves behind glass doors (Billy/Oxberg from IKEA, because I have birds and they love to chew books, and after saving for a few years I finally got them!) and I sit and just look at my shelves and all the potential, and I can open the doors and browse my shelves and it opens up such a feeling of gratitude for my privilege. I have a very small house that badly needs updating and is in a bit of a state of disrepair because we don't have a lot of money. But my books make me feel so lucky. They have been my comfort and joy since I was a little kid. They're escape, they're knowledge, they're beauty, they're potential, they're so much, aren't they? I always just want to sit with my book, or just sit on the floor in front of my shelves and just flip through and peruse and feel covers and smell the fragrance of the paper... So much joy. YOUR excitement over going out to browse books and get recommendations was also contagious and immediately made me want to sit and read with my cup of apple spice tea!

I too LOVE books, and can just disappear into the world I am reading about. I see the pictures in my head of what the written word is telling me, and find this is sooo much better than any film from the book. Reading a book is the place I escape to, when things get too much. I would love to have my own book shop, giving away the second hand books donated by folk, as well as selling new ones. I am like you Morgan, I could spend hours in a book shop. Books are like food to me, they nourish and fortify. I am on my 7th book of reading in 3 months, and have a stack of my second hand books now to go on and live another life, with someone else who will enjoy reading them. I am nearly 68 years young (my Birthday is in November) and would love to write my own book. I feel it is never too late to try new things! I also write poetry, and walking in the nature that is all around me here in West Devon, England, brings words into my head, that I have to get down on paper, often in poetic form. I have had a friend who is a wonderful flute player, play her flute to one of my poems, and it is sooo magical! It is so sad that so many book shops have closed in England, but I suppose the big ones are still thriving.The touch of a real book can not be replaced by reading from an electrical device in my world. Let us hope that others feel the same. Thank you for this lovely video, and for your courage to go and do this. Love and Blessings from Jilly & Madge. xxx

This was so much fun Morgan! I love exploring new bookshops and it was so brave of you to ask to film and interview staff for book recommendations. I admit I am a sucker for a inventive window display and Annie Blooms was wonderful. I would have been tempted to get "Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice" from the Pumpkin Patch display or the "BIG Flavor Vegan" cookbook. I definitely want to read "Days Of The Morisaki Bookshop". When you saw the Children's Storytime sign outside it gave me immediate Kathleen Kelly (You've Got Mail) vibes. I also love when indie bookshops have a cozy reading corner and those big comfy high back chairs. The Spoke and Word looked like a very cozy bookshop. Loved the blue exterior and how they had the Halloween themed books set up along with candles, cards, stickers and washi tape. Lastly I liked how Up Up Books had such a wonderful poetry section and really promoted local Portland writers. The folded book hanging decorations were wonderful as well as the children's section with the arched doorway and lovely wallpaper and moss hanging from the ceiling. Magical. I would love if you decide to do this again as we have so many wonderful indie bookshops and used bookstores to explore here in Portland and nearby areas. Wishing you a wonderful weekend Morgan my friend.💜

This was such a fun video. Thank you for taking us along with you. I absolutely love small independent book shops. Sadly, we don’t have any at all in our area. I’ve searched far and wide. We do have 2 Barnes and Noble’s within 20 minutes of us at least. The new CEO is trying to slowly turn them back into smaller shops with more curated books for that particular area. He wants them to feel more like independent book stores. Anyway, we’re moving to a small town within the next few years (not sure where yet or which state), but one of the top things on my list is that the town MUST have a small bookstore. Luckily, my husband is fully onboard with this because he knows how much I enjoy reading and cozy book shops. Have a wonderful Autumn weekend🍂🍁🧡
