In Marseille, gangs fighting for territory have become more violent; setting on fire their rivals, kidnapping, torturing and killing young people to send messages to rival gangs. Most of these crimes have been happening in the Quartiers Nord, an area that according to the families of the victims, has been neglected by the state which allowed crime to proliferate.
VICE gains access to the criminals operating in the area who reveal how the traffic of drugs and weapons works, as well as a young lookout and drug dealer. We then speak to Amine, whose brother was brutally murdered at 22 years old and his body was later found burned in the boot of a car.

Its ok as long as they are not forcing people and using some extreme methods to send their word. Everyone has a choice what they wanna believe or who they wanna follow. But i dont see how it's relevant for this fentanyl thing??? Maybe cause it's a disease (addiction) so maybe she is saying when u accept Jesus its enough for a person to be cured from the disease of addiction. I see a lot of people talking about the murder rate being low. I actually live in France and the translations are wrong , "20 deaths a year" isnt what the guy was saying , he was talking about how there are shootings occuring everywhere in Marseille. As a matter of fact , Marseille had 25 murders from June to September 2021 according to official figures so theres no way Marseille only has 25 homicides in a year. Bear in mind The city of Marseille's population is only 878,320 inhabitants, so the murder rate is quite high for a European city

yes this entitled mentality is really pathetic, of course they have the same choices as everyone else, those staying in these "projects" do it because they pay very little to no rent, most likely living on benefits and trafficking (a lot of famillies do this in marseille "cités").and others just like this life. These areas and peoples have benefited from billions of tax money over the last 50 to 70 years, incredibly more than the general population, still we hear this kind of statements, usually from middle east immigrant kids.

Main difference between america and Marseilles (and all the dangerous cities in France/Europe) is that in Marseilles it is mostly about criminal organisations figthing each other for the business, it's well organized and ppl don't want to be arrested for dumb reasons. In America you can get shot anywhere by a crackhead that is ready to kill just to get enough money for his daily crack. So in Marseilles, if you stay away from criminal organization or the dangerous parts of the city you will be fine overall, in America you can get killed anywhere And I find weird that some americans in the comment almost act like they are "proud" that their country is more dangerous

It's not so much the numbers of the death, it is the brutality of them which has only worsen over the last couple of years (kidnappers filming the victims being tortured for example). Plus Marseille enjoys a prime location for drug trafficking being on the coast. Today, French police are scared to get in these "cités" (building blocks) because they might not get out alive. A really amazing French film you might want to watch to understand the situation there is "Bac Nord". Came out last year, can't recommend it enough :)

I’m French and I’ll try to explain you, ‘cause I’m seeing a lot of dumb comments. You can live in Marseille without problems, BUT, if you’re wanna go in Marseille’s ghettos, it will be very dangerous. For Americans, use your brain for once please. When u’r walking at Time Square, u ain’t scared, u´re not risking anything, but u’ll not going to walk and chill in East Harlem. Btw, I would clear something, In Europe, we can’t have guns in every corner of the country, that’s why we have « only » 39 murders BY FIREARMS per year. It’s hard and it cost a lot. Conclusion, if you wanna chill and u won’t go in hoods, u are not going to die, but u’r not 100% safe, robbers are everywhere in the city. For foreigners, France isn’t like movies, it was like that in 60-70s but not anymore. If u know someone who traveled in Paris, ask him, « how was vacations ? ». Last words, I’m living in Miami Florida since 5 years, so I know exactly what’s going on in the us, but France is not like movies guys trust me, and it’s easier for me to walk in Miami streets than Paris ones. Marseille is not the most dangerous, it's the 6th most dangerous behind Bradford, Coventry, Nantes, Catan and Birmingham respectively. Being from Nantes myself I can tell you that the biggest problem isn't really the crime itself but more the fact you can get away with it. The judicial system is so crammed up you could be running the streets for 7 years before being summoned to court. The police themselves are outnumbered too, I remember calling the cops once over some teenagers threatening my friends with knives and the dispatch literally said "sorry sir, a midnight brawl between teenagers isn't big enough of a problem for us to send units, we have a house fire to deal with" ill never forget that. On a separate event some guys showed up to my friends party uninvited, just to start a fight. Two of my friends got stabbed, nothing life-threatening but still gave their gfs PTSD. The guys still haven't been arrested and it's been almost a year now. I used to be the most pro-police out of all my friends and even I don't really trust them anymore.

Dunno where you got your figures from but I don't think any UK city is on the top 10 in the whole of Europe. I live right near Bradford and yes it is bad but it's not as bad as certain cities in Europe, also Coventry? Even Manchester and Liverpool are worse than Coventry lol. Birmingham is bad yes but again not as bad as certain parts of mainland Europe. Remember the UK is a island with one of the most developed judiciary and policies so they are quick to stamp down on major crime and criminals unlike places in less developed parts of Europe like Italy or even French cities where the minorities are pushed out to the suburban ghetto estates to fend for themselves. They are not in the inner cities so therefore their way of life does not affect the average law abiding French person.

We're locked in these open-air ghettos and we're just imprisoned here." That was the deepest and most unsettling thing about this whole video. I know there are some people that probably say "well why don't they just leave and go somewhere else". At which point I remember a quote from a philosopher long ago, "its better to stay here and fight these dragons known, than to venture off and fight those unknown". Their population is 800,000+… I live in a city in the US with 350,000 and we have 60+ homicides a year. Sometimes more. I live in an area that’s not super popular to violent crime, but I have family that live in rougher neighborhoods, who have dozens of bullet holes in the house, and they have nothing to do with the crime, it’s all strays. It’s common to hear about 3+ shootings in one night, etc. or weird shootings, like a house full of guys killed execution style. Unfortunately, here, that’s not so “weird.” Obviously, not less sad. It’s hard to comprehend that Marseille is considered a dangerous city in Europe. A former boss of mine and a good friend was almost killed when he was driving his car in France where he lived with his family. He had a newborn and a wife and there were some young Arabs making noise with their motorcycles in the middle of the night, night after night. So eventually he went out and complained to them. Not long after that he was driving to work and there was a traffic jam next to where he lived. When it didn't move at all, he opened the door and went on foot to check what was holding the line. The same Arabs were fucking around, making a line of a dozen cars wait for no reason at all. No one dared to confront them. So he went and told them to move the hell out. Now, my boss used to be in the French navy and was a very big guy. He has seen war. But he is a Buddhist (originally came from Polynesia when he was a little boy) so he is a very patient man. But when he told them to move, their leader came up at him and tried to hit him. He dodged and caught his arm and put him in the ground. (I can't remember if he broke his arm or not) He told the others to stay away and warned the guy on the ground to chill and to move out of the way so that the cars can pass. So that's that. Then the next night, he was asleep and heard a noise downstairs (he lived in a two story apartment) and went to check it out. There was a fire that was started by a Molotov cocktail. Those Arabs had tried to burn him and his family, his wife and baby alive. Thankfully he got the fire under control since it didn't really ignite any curtains or carpets. So of course he made a police report. A few days later his wife's car was burned. Then he did a report on that and told the authorities who he suspected was behind it, about the previous attack and all that. So some time later he was driving to work on the highway and a scooter was following him with two guys on board. He didn't think about it at all, just sang Abba's Money Money Money song. Until the scooter shot at him from behind missing him not by a lot, hitting his radio which turned off. He floored the pedal and drove to the nearest police station and told them what happened. They started a major investigation and a few months later he went to testify to the court. He saw all the guys there and they knew him. He left the country right after that and came to Spain, where i met him. He was there for about four months and I worked for him. When he told me this story originally i was skeptical. After all it is kind of crazy. But he showed me all the evidence i could ask for. The pictures from his home, his wife's burned car, bullet holes in his car, documents from the case, and so on. Eventually i booked him a flight back there and haven't heard from him since. I hope he is still alive and not murdered. It's been a couple of years.

@@karatsurba4791 I've visited a couple times. The region (cote d'azur) is most definitely beautiful. The city, problems aside, seemed not so interesting. Fairly run of the mill city. Can be nice in places, nice beaches. Chateau d'if - from the Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexander Dumas. 3 stars. The poverty you can find in places is depressing. I passed one drunk foreign guy propped up in a doorway crying a foreign womans name. Saw a family living on a mattress on the street. Another guy with a bottle waking up on a thrown out sofa. All around the central city. Fucking heart wrenching at times. Day I left the radio was reporting on a student who was murdered the night before at the train station where I'd recently been. France seems to have let Marseille down. (excellent weather though)

I was expecting to see London as I think we've passed the 25 murder mark in the first month of the year I dread to think what it is now! Not one day goes by without a shooting or stabbing and the perpetrators are getting younger and younger! Londons a great metropolis to visit as there is so much history, museums, arctecture I love the mix off old and new like tower Bridge and the tallest building in Western Europe the Shard oh and the beautiful Gurking plus the entertainment you can't beat but the sad fact of the matter is that its not the sort of place I'd want to raise a family not this day and age. This is coming from a ex Londoner (Harlesden) who moved away years ago now. 🇬🇧🇺🇦✊
