I had a neighbor with a Rottweiler, who was digging in the ground. My thought was a mouse or a gopher, so I encouraged him. Suddenly he start yelping, and the ground hornets were out in force. I went through their gate, and unhooked his leash while both of us were getting stung. We ran about 50 yards before they started going back to their nest. I was more concerned about the dog, and watched as dozens of them crawled out of his hair. Between the 2 of us, we were stung hundreds of times, and I thank God that I was not allergic. The neighbor thanked me, and I helped him destroy the nest. He had the perfect area for his dog, that had shade all day, but not with those wasps there.

I was at a bbq with family when my cousins bf was stung by a bee. He had been stung before several times and was never allergic. It wasnt until he got a tattoo that he became very allergic to them. Most people think anaphylaxis only happens super fast but thats not always the case. He started to feel bad about 20 minutes afterwards. He thought he had just gotten too hot (we live in Louisiana) so he went inside and laid down. About 30 minutes later my cousin is screaming that he is blue and not breathing. Several of us in my family are nurses and first responders so we immediately checked for a pulse and there wasnt one. We started chest compressions while the helicopter was on its way. We got his heart started again but he was brain dead. It was so sad and something as a nurse, I wont forget.

The previous attacks were likely the cause of becoming allergic. You get more allergic the more you get stung. The tattoo likely had nothing to do with it.
@SonsOfLorgar
@SonsOfLorgar 10 ай бұрын
@@jond661 depends, there are plenty of older tatoo inks that are either allergenic, carcinogenic or both. Most of those are illegal in the EU and the US, but still used in less developed countries where governments have no power, will or incentive to enact customer or worker protective legislation, and can be bought cheaply online from those countries, sometimes with falsified contents declarations to pass the standard superficial customs inspection.

I stepped on a bees nest and they lit my ankle up lol. Just hurt in my ankle obviously. But then a week later I got stung again...I had a reaction I never had as my hand and arm started swelling and even my throat started feeling like it was swelling...I never had a reaction like that. I was wondering if it was because I was stung so many times in a short period. Or if it was bees have different venoms and different types can cause different reactions. They were 2 different bee types that stung me. Ive been stung in the head before and never had reactions.

@@thegamingchef3304 That sounds like you've developed an allergy. You should probably try and avoid getting stung again, because it could be worse next time. If you think it's likely you will get stung get an EpiPen and keep it handy.

A few errors I found. First, that's a Hoverfly nectaring on a flower during the Wasp segment, it has much shorter antennae. Secondly, you show the taxonomic name Vespa luctuosa for both the Wasp and Assassin caterpillar (which is Lonomia obliqua). Thirdly, the caterpillar is a silkworm and emerges as a Moth after it pupates.

Mosquitoes are like most things affected by circadian rhythms. If affected by day biters sit more in the shade, if affected by night biters remain under lights. Also mosquitoes appear to be attracted to certain colours, red, orange and black being the worst colours to wear, while white, blue, and green are better at repelling. However cyan is supposedly another such colour that attracts so blue may be dependant on shade. Also mosquitoes are attracted by scent so wearing scent-less deodorant can help you to avoid being bitten as well.

Sad. He lived, but it left a clear permanent mark on his well-being. Yes, yellow jackets are crazy aggressive. If disturbed, the whole hive immediately attack and chase, and they make nests in places that are easy to accidently step on. I watched a guy spray a stream of wasp spray at a hole from 10 feet away, and 4 yellow jackets immediately shot out of the hole and followed the stream back to him. They chased him about 50 feet.

I got bitten by a kissing bug in central Missouri just a few weeks ago. I felt the bite, which felt like a horsefly, and after knocking the damn thing off my arm I recognized it as definitely being a "true" bug (order hemiptera) but wasn't aware of any parasitic bugs in that area. So I thought it was probably an assassin bug that I had offended somehow. They arent parasitic but will bite defensively. But an assassin bug didn't entirely make sense as the coloration was wrong for an assassin bug and the bite didn't hurt like blazing hell as an assassin bug's is said to (like a wasp sting) and instead only briefly hurt, not badly at all, but then itched like crazy. I did a google search for parasitic bugs (hemipterans) native to the region and google -- the font of all knowledge -- let me down and literally didn't come back with anything at all. Until I watched this video I had no idea I'd been bitten by something potentially dangerous (thanks Simon -- you might have saved me from a severe impact on my health) but the bug that bit me was definitely the same one in the video, coloration and all. I'm seeing my doctor soon and I will tell him about the bite and hopefully I can get this "simple blood test" that Simon mentioned to make sure I don't have any creepy-crawly protozoans living it up in my bloodstream.

As much as we hate mosquitos, nothing good comes from completely eradicating a whole species integral to the food chain (as a source of food AND as a source of population control, whether that be to humans or any other mammal) History has shown time and time again that adding or removing species from locations can have drastic changes to local wildlife, almost 99% of the time being negative. IMO, it would be better if we made the medications that counter the diseases carried by mosquitos more affordable and accessible (especially in the poorest regions of the world where most of the infections occur) and bumped up the use of counter measures like netting, noxious chemicals (THAT ARE NOT HARMFUL TO THE ENVIRONMENT), screen meshing on windows, and protective clothing.
@xessenceofinsanityx
@xessenceofinsanityx 10 ай бұрын
Unfortunately a lot of those countermeasures aren't as useful as they could be - a lot of user error involved in netting and clothing, and in areas where pesticides have been used mosquitos are actually developing immunity. In addition you have increased urbanisation and land clearance brining their reservoirs closer to humans, plus a brand new issue we've been finding in recent years where climate change is causing the mosquitos that carry deadly diseases to spread to previous non-endemic areas. Dengue fever and malaria, coming soon to your European city! Mosquitos may just be the rare case where eradicating a certain species (we're talking just the disease carrying genera like anopheles and aedes; not eradicating the entire species) MIGHT actually be more beneficial than detrimental. Might. ...in case you couldn't tell, I LOVE talking about climate change and vector-borne diseases 😂

My last experience with bees was a few years ago at my parents. As I went from the back yard to the garage a vicious yellow jacket that wouldn’t stop stinging attacked my ear. My ear swelled up, the pain went away in a couple of days, but itching kept on going. Next week I went to mow their back of the backyard, a wild area that belongs to the city, but the homeowners must take care of. As I was mowing 3 bumblebees came out the ground, and one of them attacked the same injured ear. I ran away but the damage was done. Half of my head swelled up red, my ear was hanging down. The itch was out of this world, it would wake me up from sleep. After two weeks my ear turned gray, and after another week that gray skin peeled off. I had been stung many times before, but this was totally messed up. Maybe the combination of the two venoms, turned into super venom 🤦‍♂️

Wasps generally will ignore you if you aren't threatening. Both bees and wasps will defend their nests feociously, wasps are more willing to defend themselves- an individual bee will largely ignore quite rough handling, being quite unlikely to sting. I had to walk close past an active wasps nest over and over last year and I always had a phobia, but I realized that even with all of the ativity, I was not getting stung, or even investigated. They become more of an issue because of allergies and because you can easily provoke them when you are afraid or unaware of their presence. They can be annoying, but like bees they do so much good for us! They kill pests that eat our crops!

Also, when a wasp sting is withdrawn, it stops umping venom until it can re-insert, in a bee it's venom sack detatches with muscles and pumps it's entire venom reserve into you. So the attack pattern is a bit different. a wasp has tp remain attatched to sting, a bee doesn't!

China and other countries in Asia had a similar idea: They treated strey animals (cats and dogs) in suburban areas with a toxin, that only affects blood sucking insects, the target was mostly mosquitos. And it kinda worked. Worked in China years ago during late summer and since of late, I have a very direct comparison to Japan, where I stayed as an academic: In Japan I got killed by mosquitos. In China, almost no bites...

If you want to trap Murder Hornets, use a mouse glue-trap. Saw another dude on youtube do it. The idea behind it is that once they're trapped on it, they emit distress hormones which attract other Murder Hornets who then land on the glue trap as well in an attempt to assist its hive mate, then IT gets stuck and the cycle continues.

Those 'murder hornets' wouldn't last long in Australia - for a start they are the ideal size for squash racquets. They would also face a host of hungry birdlife, to which a 5 cm wasp would be an easy meal.

We have giant wasps / hornets in Australia (east coast). There's a species that preys on huntsman spiders. It's about the size of one of those big dark cockroaches. Surprised me once, I thought I saw a huntsman grappling with a cockroach that was a bit too big for him. Turns out it was a giant wasp dragging the larger huntsman away. This was inside my lounge room in a 3rd floor apartment, so I kind of freaked out.

I don't think wiping out the mosquitoes is a good idea. There have been many examples of humans unbalancing ecosystems in the past, basically none of them good. Too often we act before we think, and as much as alleviating human suffering is always good, we might regret something so radical.

As a former service tech for a utility I know of flee issues. Some techs have been fleed. This means going into a basement that is unused and had flees. Upon going in they noticed seeing black patches and realized it was flees. Immediately got out and stripped calling for help. Also in some buildings before entering back hall you kick door to push cockroaches off door. Or go into a hall during hotspell and start slipping on floor because of maggots from trash.

I don't know if eraddicating mosquito's is wise. Due to them being a food source for many animals that eat insects. BUT lowering their number wudnt hurt i guess. I mean sometimes in summer times i cycle to work and the sheer amount of these flying bastards that fly EXACTLY at the height of my face is just obnoxious to a new level☹️
@namename9998
@namename9998 10 ай бұрын
Its not a matter of lowering numbers since that would mean less food for other animals. The problem is mosquitoes carrying disease and whether or not ecosystems would be fine if those species went extinct and whether another species would fill its place.

So they want to wipe out a dangerous species of mosquito, do they? It will probably turn out that the only thing preventing the rabbits becoming sentient and carnivorous is that very mosquito. Then what? What will we do when faced with hyperintelligent flesh eating bunnies that breed exactly as you would expect given that they're bunnies?

The major one I'm allergic to is 🐝. Found out the hard way by time I was 13. I got stung a few times but I got stung again at 13 while visiting my Grandmother. A little later I felt sick and was told to lay down. Not long after I began to 🤢 and had trouble breathing. Called out from the restroom for her before I passed out. Next thing I remember was waking up in intensive care. Ever since then I have to keep an EpiPen on me as I'm severely allergic to them. Not fun when you develop an allergy to kill you. Especially since I'm allergic to the "Cilin" Family ( Penicillin, etc) too! 😅 😓 Basically I developed an allergy after enough stings which is possible. You can eventually develop it after enough stings and Anaphylaxis may not happen directly after. I had a friend who ate 🥜 and went into Anaphylaxis 20 minutes later. Lucky enough she got help in time like I had.
