True words. The best way to deal with Donnie-types is to listen to your instincts, spot them and quickly move on without them. It took me some experience to learn this the hard way, but the lesson is permanent.

A) The part about not candy coating and talking about wins as well as losses - absolute real talk, I felt that. B) I’ve known similar people/been in similar situations and literally relived the anxiety of that life through your story - well told and a great reminder to be thankful for my changes C) Hilarious ending - I don’t think anybody likes this Donny now. And a very late congrats on the little girl; they sure do make life worth it, don’t they? Be blessed and stay safe.

One guy came by my house once and said, “Let’s go target shooting. Bring your 45.” Like a fool, I did. We got down the road, and he says we’re going to the city. This guy owes me an ounce of ****.” So we get to this pool hall in an old rundown ghetto. This was in the 70s, and pimp looking dudes were standing outside in long Superfly trench coats. We got in, and he says we’re gonna Rob this place. In the meantime, a black guy asked me how long I’ve known that guy and, “Has he always wanted to be a gangster?” Long story short, I got TF outta there alive. People like that just use you to help them do crime and get their back. 😡🤬

At the age of 15 I was being trained to be security for a certain well known group at the time and I'm 40 now and still sleep with my boots on... When I walk into any building I still count all the exits and watch for anyone I think could cause a problem... I have not been a part of that group since I was 25-26 but when things are drilled into your head they stay with you... Donnie should have been dealt with ( with the clubs blessing ) as soon as you got to the house...

I think there's a damn good chance Donny had no clue you weren't in the car, but that doesn't mean he thought you were in the car. For a guy like Donny the only time someone else even crosses his mind is if he needs something from them. There is no "Do we have everyone?" moment for him, because he can't see a person's value beyond their potential to meet his most immediate desires. Dudes like that don't have an internal struggle between right and wrong like most people do. They're the closest thing to a vampire you'll ever encounter. They suck up your time, energy, opportunities, sense of well being and anything else good that you've got coming your way. Glad you found a way to distance yourself from that dude.

But now, I have the opportunity to change things, go back to our roots. Everthing is a preparation, a lesson. My biggest test is coming. Sometimes its physical, sometimes its mental. This probably makes no sense at all, but the biggest test is when you have the control, it takes more strength to slowly throttle up than to go full. Ease into things, and apply everything you've learned so far. I hope I have that strength. Good story, good lessons. Hopefully I wont be a Donny
