Maybe if man(kind) was supposed to be one, but in many persons, as is God, then we also share that oneness in our broken, fallen state. You are that person, I am also that most dangerous person and so on…

I’ve mostly been the opposite my whole life, very hard on myself to the point of self injury through destructive behavior, never forgiving myself… since I met Christ in 1995, He has forgiven me first, and still is every time I fall… I still see myself as a sinner and now I know that any good in me or that I might do is of and from God…

Father Josiah of Patristic Nectar did a 3 part lecture titled “War and Peace: an orthodox perspective on violence” which can be found for free on the Patristic Nectar website or application. And in this lecture he also referenced a book on a similar topic titled “On resistance to evil by force” by Ivan Ilyin. I hope this helps you get some answers and may God be with you.

Thank you Father Paul. I'm an ex-Catholic newer convert (Chrismated Greek Orthodox last month) and Ive been struggling with this topic quite a bit. My humble question is this - is there anything in and of this world worth fighting for? Or is every negative, harmful, or abusive act up us as Christians simply there for our salvation and to be accepted?

I don't honestly see how those two would be mutually exclusive options 🤔 We know as a fact that all things work together for good to those who love and fear God (Paul writes that in the Epistle for Romans), and we also know that in spite of all its falleness the world in itself is still good in its core (otherwise it would've ceased to exist because evil has no substance of its own)

I would love to accept people being mean to me with gladness but i am afraid i am not that holy. How does one reach a point where they rejoice in this type of affliction? How does one even try to reach towards such thing?

I was thinking yesterday abt a story that is in the Prologue of Ohrid: A monk went to his elder, a saint whose name I can't remember at the moment, with a concern about his resentments against the words of others. The elder told him to go to the graveyard and praise the dead. He did. Returned to the elder . The elder told him to go back and curse them. So he did.. Then returned to his elder. Did the dead respond to you when you praised them?? No. Did they respond to you when you cursed them?? No. Then be like the dead, said the elder. [I am using my husband's phone so the name you see isn't mine. ]

Well and good when things in life are moving along swimmingly. But when religio-theory and pontification gives way to real pain that’s when you find out what you really believe.

Yes, there’s not much fresh air in the smoking volcanic crater… yet it is essentially not different from the other worldly desert regions. And not difficult to be orthodox, as our Teacher and His teaching stand so high and recognizable. Keep up your spirit and rejoice!

What about in the case of being raped? How can we think that should 'benefit us', as well as all the trauma, the PTSD that goes along with it?
@kassianistevensАй бұрын
Research St Olga of Alaska. She specifically helps people with this.
@sotiriapapadopoulou894520 күн бұрын
I guess it's a matter of priorities. Firstly, you try to heal the trauma and love yourself again-inside the Church, with the help of God, but also a good professional if you can afford it. And then you call yourself "the most dangerous person in the world", and the rest.

@@williamphillips3330 no I’ve seen someone literally say “animals can’t be saints” and other things such as saying this church is for whites and this church is for blacks and even I have seen plenty of orthodox people that are nazis or want to be nazis.
