@daneamann62256 жыл бұрын
Pocono is by far the most dangerous track in NASCAR. The high speeds, the angled walls, (both inside and outside) and the high rate of braking all make Pocono a death trap. And the problem is that the track is so slow to update. The safety evolution from 1970-2012 was virtually nonexistent. Nearly every crash in this video occurred in such a way that at any other track, it would have never been an issue. After the 2001 Steve Park crash, the track put dirt behind the guard rail, but inexplicably left a opening that Jeff Green hit not even a year later. The Sadler crash should have never occurred, the fact the wall ever jutted out like that is asinine. Only after the 2010 Kahne crash did the track add the backstretch catch fence, and it wasn’t until the 2012 ARCA race where Buster Graham sailed over the horribly angled turn 1 guardrail that a wall was placed spanning from the exit of pit road to just before the corner. Thank God that he did hit that elevated paved stretch, but that brings up the point of why the hell is there basically the equivalent of a ramp in the grass!? The whole track is in my opinion a black mark on the schedule. The racing is either mediocre or dangerous, and the scary turn 1 crashes the last two years due to brakes failing are proof enough to me that there needs to be a change to this venue.

A triangular track where all three corners are completely different. Add to that a sharp turn at the end of a very long straight. The result is a nightmare trying to set the car up properly and a track that eats up brakes. Not only is Pocono dangerous, but its also the most boring track on the circuit. One racing line, long and high speed stretches which COULD promote drafting if they werent broken up by three rather tight turns where passing only happens if you dive bomb the corner and somehow manage not to wash up the track, and two races a month apart that often see rain delays/rain outs thanks to the races being held during the summer where cold front updrafts made by the surrounding mountains combine with humid Gulf Stream air to create micro-burst thunderstorms that soak everything. Even when NASCAR was at its peak in the 90s it was STILL a dreadfully boring track. Pocono still exists while Ontario and Texas World are gone/in shambles. There is no justice.
@HeathNation24655 жыл бұрын
Boring? You clearly have never heard of New Hampshire.
@GhoStrider-bg5ln5 жыл бұрын
Ontario was a configuration much similar to Indy, modeled after it. And how is the NASCAR racing at Indy these days? Oh yea, boring as the track it was compared to, Pocono. Now auto club is there in the LA market, designed similar to Michigan, which the old "Texas world" was also very similar, perhaps as been said a cookie-cutter track. Don't worry, Bruton Smith got NASCAR at a Texas track all hyped up to be the best ever, that all too often has just been horrid, a terrible joke, that no matter how many changes are made is still just as boring and suck... and took the series' original N. Wilkesboro out of the sport altogether
@CensoredFreedom6156 жыл бұрын
you didn't show the shrader wreck in turn 1 during the 90s. turn 1 is a tough corner to get into. repeatedly braking at that high a speed, and the pedal pressure you have to use is a bit more than these rotors can take. you can only superheat a rotor so many times before it gets brittle and flies apart. I think most of the tracks they run on are too big.

Been watching races there for years and it just occurred to me that they should put a sand/gravel trap on the inside of turn 1 where Bubba went through. That would have slowed him down a lot. That grass didn't take any speed off. The recent safety updates have made the track a lot safer though. You could have added other wrecks like Allison's flip in '92 or Lake Speed and Greg Sacks in '89. Turn 1 has seen some brutal hits. Chuck Bown had his career shortened after a crash in T1 in '94. Could go on and on...

I’m a little late to this video but schraders flip into turn one in 2003 and Jeff green as well. It has honestly been a bad track the years too. Earnhardt back in the day and also the lake speed and greg sacks crash.

I honestly think it’s mainly the infield. It’s such an exposed piece of wall and it’s prone to have wrecks travel there anyway.

How did davey Allison's roll or Waltrip's roll at pocono not make it into these clips lol maybe the two gnarliest crashes to happen at that track

Yes, I’m the calender now, but langhorne speedway. That’s all I must say because man. 18 fatalities. Left in the fifties. No stopping. Bad fences. Deaths.

I'd say it's up there, considering it's one of only a handful of tracks on the schedule where someone has died (Granted, Justin Wilson was in Indycar, not NASCAR, but sitll).

But I will say that the low banking, 3 different style of turns, and the heavy braking does add a dangerous element, when you do cook the brakes, there's no real banking to scrub speed off.

Not only nascar this track is scary for INDYCAR, hopefully clean race next week

NASCAR tracks are all dangerous, but the worse are, in alphabetical order: Atlanta, Bristol, Charlotte, Darlington, Daytona, Kansas, Pocono, Talladega, and Texas. Getting close to being added: Chicago, Dover, Kentucky, Michigan. My advice? Either slow down the races by having ALL races with restrictor plates.. Or stop making the cars so danged aerodynamic.

It may be dangerous, but the track is always trying to make things safer. More catch fencing after Kahne's crash, inside SAFER barriers after the Sadler crash, longer pit wall after the two crashes in one weekend.

Since Elliot Sadlers crash they made huge improvements to infield safety but everything else remains as is.
