She played homeless for three hours KNOWING she had a house to go home to, a bathroom, a shower, food, a bed, safety. Why doesn’t she try it for a month? She has no idea how hard it is to keep clean, find a bathroom or even try to get a job. You need an address for your application. You need clean clothes, everyday. She no doubt took a shower, put on clean clothes and had a nice big meal before she played homeless. She’s completely clueless. She could end up homeless one day so maybe she should not be judging others. (I’m speaking from experience. I was homeless for a year, when I was younger.)

I was homeless for 3 months as a teen and she's totally correct. It was my choice to turn up to school in dirty clothes with no lunch or school supplies. I also chose to be SAd while trying to sleep on the street, also having to ask friends for a toothbrush and toothpaste was a super fun bonding experience! Also she's right about intrusive thoughts, I definitely have fantasies of lighting my hair on fire, that I have bugs in my body, that I'm a p#do because I smiled at a child, etc. My ocd is completely my choice and all things I fantasise about... Note: All of the previous statements are to be read in the shittiest sarcastic tone you can muster in your head.

the "intrusive thoughs" one genuinely pissed me off so much. I grew up thinking I was insane, fearing that I was gonna snap and murder someone, and that I was a horrible person because my intrusive thoughts were about all sorts of depravity. Being 12 chopping vegetables and then suddenly your brain tells you to either stab someone or yourself.. it ain't fun. And that's just the mild part of it. But those are just thoughts, intrusive unwanted thoughts. They are distressing by all means, but knowing they are unwanted makes me feel a lot more safe with myself.

As someone who has been homeless during my teenage hood, by force. It was not a choice. I could not go home for my safety. I was a child without ability to generate income. I had no where to go and no one to help me for a long time. And hearing her spew this bs and it actually hurts my heart how someone so ignorant can dismiss so many people genuinely suffering and it renders my flabber fully ghasted that someone can say so many words without actually saying anything of value at all.

Okay, this one really pisses me off. I was homeless for six months because my husband walked out on me, my two kids, and the mortgage, my job "reorganized" me out (actually because I had just started making $20 an hour) both my parents died, I have MS so I couldn't find another job that paid enough to support paying my mortgage and I burned through my $60,000+ IRA trying to keep that house, finally losing it to foreclosure in 2010. I had nowhere to go, no one to help me, even though my sister had a full-on apartment in her lower level. We were homeless until I got a little "garden-level" dumpy apartment that took us because I begged them and I had to spend the money my parents gave my kids because the paltry $365/month plus food stamps I got from the state would have kept us homeless. I finally got subsidized housing and SSDI but I still struggle to this day. I went from living comfortably in a nice home with a good job and nice savings to being on the streets in less than five years. Fuck this woman. She's furthering the narrative that poor people are losers and victims of their own choices. 😠

Homeless for 3 hours? Being homeless is a choice? Homelessness is FORCED upon the individual that isn’t financially stable or can’t afford a living and, possibly, a job. Me and my family in Europe almost went homeless because we would get eviction notices every month or so because we couldn’t make rent. We were in SEVERE POVERTY and paying bills was a nightmare, and what hurts most is watching my parents not eating dinner because feeding us, giving us a living, fulfilling our childhood the best to their capability was their priority. I have 3 siblings so there were many times mom and dad never ate dinner, bought new clothes or shoes, and never had date nights.

I also have OCD. I'm disabled and use an electric wheelchair, one of my intrusive thoughts is to drive my wheelchair off flights of stairs anytime I see them and if I don't everyone will die for some reason. I have to mentally fight against it to keep myself from actually doing it and seriously injuring or even killing myself in the process. I have to have my medications administered to me by someone else because I have the intrusive thought that I didnt do it "right" and need to take more which is obviously extremely dangerous if I give in to it. I had and still do have what i think is a less severe but still dangerous varient of schizophrenia. I had to fight the urges to comit violent acts ever since middlschool. I gave into the urges in highschool and almost cracked my (At the time) best friend's sternum with a single punch. I was over 200 pounds and knew how to hurt someone. Mix that with a blind rage and years of violent thoughts all combined into a single urge, you get a punch so painful that it almost makes you blackout. After that, i isolated myself from others to keep other people safe from me. According to her logic, it's completely natural that i would want to randomly cause extreme pain to people i care about. I hate that thought, and i hate that she even thinks for a second that intrusive thoughts are just what i want to do.

I find the intrusive thoughts one interesting. The reason psychologists use the term "intrusive" is because those thoughts are, well... intrusive. They literally do not come from the person, they are coming from insecurities and comments of others that have managed to ingrained into the one having the intrusive thoughts. She needs to look up the dictionary definition as well as the psychological definition. I agree with the trust-fund baby sentiment when it comes to this girl. You refer to being homeless in the past tense, which would indicate you are no longer homeless. Are you saying you didn’t have to make choices to end your homelessness? 🧐 Interesting. If when I was homeless at 14 I knew that all I needed was a magical fairy to wave her wand and give me a home without me having to make the choices I had to make to get myself off the streets, then I’d have saved myself 8 years of sleeping behind and eating out of dumpsters and turning tricks for money to survive; silly me. Also, I’m not sure if you noticed, but paying rent and bills and having to maintain a home is just a teensy bit harder than having zero responsibility, I think the word you are looking for is “comfortable” it is more “comfortable” to live in a home, not easier the only people who would argue against the power of choice are the ones who like to be a victim and nothing is ever their fault and there is always someone else to blame for their own misfortunes. I have no respect for people who deny the power of choice. You may not choose what circumstances put you there but you choose what you do with it. Anyone who says otherwise is full of more bullshit than a cornfield.

As someone with OCD, the most damaging thing you can say to someone with intrusive thoughts is that it's THEIR thoughts. Someone once said that they're called intrusive because they're not YOUR thoughts. They're thoughts that invade your mind and make you think they're yours, which they're not. I've come to terms with it but still struggle with my intrusive thoughts and knowing the difference between my own thoughts and my intrusive thoughts, as they are always so convincing, even if I KNOW I do not feel or want it. If I acted upon them, I would be in jail. Intrusive thoughts isn't impulsive thoughts, and so many people (including her) can't tell the difference. To anyone else struggling with OCD, I feel for you and we'll get through it one way or another. Take baby steps and breathe, and even if there's that disgusting itch inside your brain telling you to continue the pattern, the cycle, the motion, etc, try your very best to ignore it, or at least do less than what you usualy do. Be proud you managed to control your OCD if only for a moment.

There is a weird and honestly life ruining spiritual belief that follows this very concept. That is, if something happens to you is a choice that was decided by your higher self or some non-sense like that. Yes, people that are part of such belief will say that it is someone's choice to have a horrible disease or to experience awful things. It honestly is just blaming victims for things out of their control, because let's face it: it is far easier to do that than to step up for people in need, if possible and safe of course. Another one I was told by these group of people is that you must give help only when people ask for help, like if there was someone who is obviously going to end badly and I know the outcome and I could stop that, I should not do that because they didn't ask for help and I should not deprive them of such experience ( e.g. I work in a lab, if someone new is about to make a huge mistake, I should let them so they can endanger people for the experience???). I was at a very bad point in my life and unfortunately my group of now ex friends, believed this nonsense, it just made everything worse because I could not comprehend why I was in this scenario. Of course, they also do not believe in science. As a lab member and at a time was in a difficult situation (still am, but without these people it is much more manegeable), it just made everything so much more toxic because I just could not understand. People, RUN the moment you see such people! Edit: grammatical mistakes

as a 18yo that has been homeless 3 separate times I cant indeed confirm that this person is defiantly mentally deficient the only choices you have when being homeless are the street, or shelters and sometimes it isn't even a choice, sometimes shelters are full and you're forced to sleep on the park bench or in your car or if your just coming into it spending the rest of your money on hotels/motels to then run out of money and be faced with the prior problems. I can't believe people like that man, this is one of the few times someone's opinion/ comment online genuinely made me angry this women has the audacity the go 'Play" homeless like it's some type of game, for THREE HOURS, then call it a choice. Try getting kicked out of your home and be homeless. Try a Week, A Month, A Year, Several Years. Then came back and tell me if its really a choice weather or not you get to be and or stay homeless. But yeah, Great video August. Been binging them for the past few days after a found a clip of one of your videos on Tik Tok, keep up the great work.

As someone who's been homeless I can never truly express just how exhausting it is. You're constantly moving, your hygiene and mental health suffers and you never feel safe. People who have always had a roof over their head claim that they know what it's like to be cold or sleep deprived, but there's no comparison to someone whose homeless. No one in my life knew that I was homeless, I couldn't tell anyone mainly due to shame. The sense of shame that most homeless people experience is only exacerbated by these morons.

I actually watched a video about intrusive thoughts, what we think is that you have them (specifically the wanting to jump from a high place ones) because it reminds us that that’s scary, we don’t want to do that, and we value our lives. Unfortunately though when it’s forced we tend to forget about those thoughts, we just have to hope people who accidentally skip over the thoughts reminding them that stuff is bad get help before they either become like this lady or you know the rest…

that intrusive thought one genuinely made me almost have a breakdown LMAO as someone with severe OCD, who almost admitted herself to a psyche ward- that is the LAST thing i wanna hear. intrusive thoughts are just that- intrusive. they are nothing more than "what ifs" about things youre afraid of. never, EVER tell ANYONE that they are their intrusive thoughts- not only is it nowhere near the truth, it can be extremely harmful. to anyone else struggling with intrusive thoughts: YOU ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS!!!

She's a walking, talking example of surface level philosophy. Several sects of Buddhism talk about how you deal with the negative thoughts. That you should acknowledge them and let them flow away, but they're not your instinct and you certainly shouldn't act on them.

@@77PhoenixIntrusive thoughts are unwanted and repetitive thoughts, images, or urges. A lot of people since the dawn of time have had thoughts that qualify in those categories. Some common examples of intrusive thoughts are: worries about germs/getting sick, unexpected memories of a traumatic event, thoughts of wanting to hurt yourself/others. It's just been defined for education and clinical use.

I had a friend from a VERY rich family once, and her older sister did something like this. She pretended to be homeless in Santa Cruz for a week…which is basically just camping on the beach. She said she learned so much about their struggles from it….then went back to their big ass baby mansion. 🙄
