Matt Shaw has no talent so he just has to go to gross-outs (which are super-easy) to sell books to people who just want to prove they can "take it." There is some extreme horror that's great, but most of it is just a refuge for terrible writers. Matt is one of the most reliant upon that. He can't build a plot or a character to save his life, so, hey, fuck a baby with a leg you tore off a dog while you shit down its throat and it vomits snot. Put enough of that in a book and somebody'll buy it just to say "I read the chainsaw-clown-shit-puke-drown-massacre book!" At least 90% of the "extreme horror" nowdays is nothing but an Aristocrat's joke. It's not even horror anymore, it's just an unrealistic, silly cartoon. It's nothin'. It's impossible to be less impressed by 'em.

Well, of course it was the most disturbing book you've read, considering it's CP. However this isn't actually a rarity. Don't believe me? Google the Eunuch Archives. Written torture CP unfortunately is actually popular enough considering how much there is out there. Some may think that HUB is going to the extreme to be one of a kind in the horror genre....Id say its not actually horror. But it is sure sketchy enough thqt the FBI may want to look at the authors computer hard drive. Why? Because its just CP. And if one is writting CP out in the open, good chances there's worse that is being hidden. Lots of men write this kind of CP that these stories are a dime a dozen, if you know where to look. They write them not for the shock value or to try to traumatize readers ...they write them cause they get off on them. They write them and share them around with other pa3do sadomasichistic men cause torturing child grape is their fetish and this is a legal loophole to indulge and w@nk over torture CP material. Nothing more, nothing less

there’s nothing transgressive about this. it’s a cp-torture fantasy that uses shock value as a mask in order to label itself as a work of horror. just because something is shocking does not mean it’s good, and from what I’ve seen with this genre, it’s less about substance and more about “oh what will get people disgusted” which is a cheap distillation of what it means for something to be a work of horror. someone check this author’s hard drive 😭

frrrrrrr and this Matt dude has a history of doing shit like this. in the 6th grade he wrote 'Zombie Girl' because his irl crush rejected him. And the book was torture porn about a very real 11 year old girl that he very much knew in real life. (though I may be confusing him with that Playground dude but I don't think I am) and then, because he thought Amber Heard was 100% lying (which idc if you do or don't) he wrote literal torture porn about her. Plot is just "she date famous man to get famous when famous leave and say abuse. gigachad man does torture porn to make her actually feel in danger grrrr" like I'm sorry but that's a pattern

Extreme horror is fearing horror for yourself…not a demented mind forever harming the mind and body of an innocent! That would be grooming and places like you described are the worst of trafficking. I don’t know how any normal person could even listen to your complete vlog. In what way of completely harming and forever damaging an innocent child who is trusting, afraid & alone can you possibly find any humor? And if anyone of the followers can listen to this and not feel condemned, I feel so sorry for you and whoever failed you to have a backbone to stand for what is right, namely kids! I pray that none of those people have children. Kids need protection from the possibility of evil and if someone can laugh while reading this & retelling it there is no possibility of goodness. Horror is fun. But the best thing about it is knowing it’s pretend! I’m talking about haunted houses and the movie “Saw”. What you are describing is both a tripple Xxx child movie/book and a “snuff” film!

I have to say I've written horrible things happening to child characters and I kind of enjoyed Playground (not the completely unnecessary incest bits, but the death traps kind of felt like an adult-rated version of the kids-in-peril adventure stories I grew up on). I think the difference is that there has to be an actual POINT to it. Just describing disgusting things over and over can be done by any idiot and doesn't make any impression after a while - the point is how the characters react and what they do to attempt to change their bad situation.

I've long thought of transgressive literature as the work of writers like Charles Bukowski and William Burroughs. Many, many, maaaany of their stories are shocking, violent, and generally not for the weak of heart (or stomach). The more video book reviews I see, the more I realize that the extreme horror genre is only a revised term for splatterpunk. Which is fine, of course, but I'd hate to think that a reader just getting into actual TL would wrongly confuse the two. Read 'em both if you like, but remember that there's a world of difference between Hubert Selby and Matt Shaw.

Thank you for taking one for the team. To reiterate what is said at the start of the book, this isn't my usual writing style. I was challenged to do something truly fucked-up so, I took the bait and went with it. Usually kids and animals are my limit but, broken both of those now. You'll be pleased to hear though - the gay couple at the end are playing an act. They have no wish to do cruel things to the child they take; they actually take the child to give them PROPER love and escape them from the hell of the Hub; easier to adopt there then go through all the red-tape crap of a real orphanage. That's not to say the sequel, Kids, is a happy story. Concentrating on the two husbands trying to save their new child, whilst jumping back to learn more about the Hub, it's a rough read but - I believe - wraps things up nicely enough. As for the comments stating such books shouldn't exist: No single person has the right to dictate what should and shouldn't exist (unless, obviously, it is hate speech). People come to horror for many different reasons. I travel both the UK and US doing talks on this thanks to my books and the amount of trauma people I speak to who use such content as way of helping themselves is scary. If it works for them, fantastic. If it repulses you, then stay clear of it. In this day and age, it really shouldn't be that hard.

Mique I loved watching your reactions to this book 😂 you’re hilarious! I saw Meghin was reading it and quickly purchased it and yeah, I feel like I should be punished for reading it but I just couldn’t stop lmao.

Since you like fucked up books...just curious, have you read a book called Lucifer's Children by Brett Williams?? Yikes. Im not gonna say its a great book. But it is well written. However, the way the author writes most of the sex scenes makes me question the author's motives
