The Most Eccentric Car Collection, Uncut -- JALOPNIK ON /DRIVE

The Drive

11 жыл бұрын

A French sports car with just enough seats for a driver's wife and mistress. A proto-SUV with a plywood roof. The ugliest convertible in the world. You've already met Myron Vernis on Jalopnik on DRIVE, now see his oddball cars that didn't make the first cut.

Man, what an amateur work of camera! When we are hearing about the car, we want to SEE the car that is being the issue, not the guy speaking. So, I was very irritated when i wanted to see the car and the camera kept showing the man talking...Sorry , but this needs to better worked...

If you don't know if you want to film the cars or the owner, why not have TWO cameras. Then later you can edit the video. Clipping in the owner at appropriate places. Because watching a video waving back and forth isn't that nice ;)

Matra cars were absolute wonders of engineering. Every single one used a steel space frame and composite body panels. Their best known work was the Renault Espace, which was a very commercially successful mini-van (MPV), and also used that same construction.

Others have said this, but I want to add that the video should have focused on the cars with the collector's voice in the background. Lots of stuff to look at, but we're not looking at it. Why is that? I wanted to see the eccentric COLLECTION, not the eccentric, himself.

He said "they called it the worlds first electronic automobile" electronic and electric are not the same thing (electronic implies computer control, IC or some type of modern logic like a calculator or computer chip compared to a simple electric motor or light bulb) and he was just saying what they called it so even if that's not true it's not him saying it.

ElectricUniverse Lohner-Porsche is a brand of a good number of cars, including the first full hybrid in 1899 which got developed into a better version 1904, but they build e-cars before 1899
@guily6669
@guily6669 10 жыл бұрын
I don't think the first electric car was from 1976, but way back... However they sucked, they still suck and will continue to suck until someone fights those petrol fuckers winning billions buying their Supercars and luxuary hotels... I wish we had a combustion hydrogen car instead of a electrolysis of the hydrogen and better batteries so that the electric cars would be able to do 1000KM on a full charge and that the battery would charge in like a hour or that they had fast swappable batteries like if it was a gas station, like you would pay a fee and you could simply just go there and change the battery for a fully charged one, that would be cool.
@Ismalith
@Ismalith 10 жыл бұрын
guily6669 Combustion hydrogen cars existed but because of bad efficiency they died out. Also the two serious elictric cars have ranges of 500 and 600 km with under 2h recharge for the 500km and under one hour for the 600km car, both of them are very fast and much more comfortable than combustion cars. Electric cars are good enough for what we need today unlike the 300 year old combustion garbage. The problem is that the producer don´t want to use this technology because it isn´t monopolistic technology.

The Aston Martin and jaguar are similar companies that both have obnoxiously loud v8s that are pretty much beautiful fords. Jaguar is owned by ford I believe, or was. Alfa romeo has v8 cars, the only thing I like about euro cars is they are refined and scream art and beauty. They don't look like the top gear team tried to build one over night like some of the American classic muscle cars. The 78 mustang....puke..ugly as sin and even had a four banger in most of them. Mustangs are ugly. Anything american after 68 is disgusting. The fuel crunch ruined most of the art we had. The 70 Chevelle ss 454, I would fuck that car if I got the chance. The 69 and 70 charger....same deal. None of them handled. James Dean died in a Porsche spyder because there wasn't anything better offered at the time. Muscle cars are great to look at in car shows, but practicality is obsilete. They get horrible gas mileage, most people screw them up by trying to restore them or putting crap on them to make them faster on the drag strip. It's annoying the assholes that own them. There's too much bullshit to mention between both sides of the ocean. I love the older British racing green jag featured in the top gear salute to Britain episode. Muscle car guys are close minded and won't ever change. At least a European will own and muscle car and drive a jdm car and park it next to his rolls royce. One thing British guys and muscle car owners have in common is bad teeth. It's only opinion so don't go picking this comment apart. You can't change opinion. Also, jdm beats both. Great fuel mileage, handling, refinement, and versitility. How many jdm cars can't you put your beloved lsx or Ls series v8 in? Point made.

Goliath had a 2 cyl, 2 stroke, 800cc fuel injected engine. And a sun roof that sure looked like it came from who ever did Porsche's sunroofs. I saw one in a wrecking yard a few years ago but passed on it. I had a c1958 Renault Dauphine with an "Automatique". the car shifted itself Exactly like you shift a manual transmission, damnedest car I ever drove. Had a Moretti without an engine. A VW Bus with a 356 Porsche engine. An original, early Myers Manx with a Porsche engine and Thick fiberglass.

Great collection of oddities. It's amazing how any engineer or company wanting to improve gas mileage, make electric cars, and etc., the gas companies (government) will shut you down. The cars today that are roughly half the weight of the 1940's models and getting worse gas mileage today with all the technology. Gas companies and the government greed will always prevail.

I'm pretty impessed with this guys eccentric car collection. The editing and footage of the cars could have been better. Tbh I wish I was successfull enough to just have one of these cars sitting in my garage. But unfortunately I have a tough time trading my time for hollow money. Most work for money is for negative results work at fast food see end result as droves of obese people line up for the feed trough. Work in buisness commit horrible crimes against humanity get paid for it. Work for a Refinery or Bank and crush people into crippling debt or contribute to our global Warming trend. But try and do something good like trying to feed a homeless person and get arrested for it

Cars are rarely well photographed or filmed. But they are rarely so badly avoided, ignored, hidden, forgotten, etc. by a cameraman. Was it his first time behind a camera or did he forget to realize he was doing such harm to a such interesting collection, so beautifully commented by its owner ? Shame on him.
