Thanks for this. I actually had no idea what Tencel was made from! I have to add a minor note about *Piñatex* though ('peen-nya-tex'). It is technically *not* biodegradable (fully) because the company, Ananas Anam, uses essentially a plastic finish on the fabric. This is such a shame because while it is far more eco than 'pleather' or leather, it is still reliant on petrochemicals. So while it is a far better choice than leather or PVC, it is not in the same league as linen. And while Piñatex may be made from a waste product, that waste is not really waste. It is compost, and it keeps the soil healthy. If we start thinking about compost as a waste product, then we will never have truly eco fabrics. Just my opinion.

Doesn't eucalyptus plant require high amount of water. At least as far as what I have heard in India, they mention it takes way more water than our common plants.

Looking into developing a line of clothes and am researching fabrics to use- this came in handy! Do you have any other resources about Pinatex? Any negative or cons? Thanks hun for sharing!
@tammyd.9703 жыл бұрын
probably too late to help, but the co. that makes Piñatex is Ananas Anam. You can look at the co. web site, wikipedia, etc. In my short amount of research I found that Piñatex is not exactly as advertised, as they use a finish that is not totally eco and does not truly biodegrade. It's leaps and bounds better than leather or PVC, but it is still reliant on plastics. You can find prices and more info on the co web site, but they kind of green wash the finish aspect, if you ask me. Sadly, probably the most eco fabric you could choose is recycled polyester. There is enough of it currently in existence right now that the amount surpasses even our ridiculous 'needs'.

look up Deserto cactus leather, it's better than pinatex
