Turns out an infinite supply of bad units isn't as bad as you might think. As bad as the green units are, they're generally good enough to not get one-rounded by most of the enemies; those that do one-round, are Snipers and Ballistae that don't counterattack. As a result, they can easily swarm enemies and more importantly, stay on the field without all killing themselves on their own turn. Left alone, they will clear the whole map short of the boss on their own, simply by being so numerous that their enemies can't kill them faster than they can spawn.

Tharacia 776 also has weapon durability. Even if they could kill them faster than they could spawn if you waited long enough they'd break all their weapons and get pincushioned to death as they watch on helplessly.

@@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 The green units will usually chip the red units to death first, mainly due to the bad unit quality on both sides. However, they won't attempt to attack the boss at all, so if you want to break his weapon, you'll have to rescuedrop them into range.

This type of thoughtful gameplay story integration can really only be found in Kaga's games. I highly recommend playing Berwick Saga especially because you said the gameplay of this chapter didn't quite realize itself. Berwick is like next and natural evolution of alot of his ideas.

One of my favorite mechanics from the game is the civilian request and how it develops some NPCs as well, the hub in general reminds me a lot of Suikoden. I wish Fire Emblem would lean into making the nonplayable/supporting cast just as prominent as the playable/main cast like they were in the Kaga Sagas or Suikoden series.

Meanwhile in Ogre Battle... Level grinding lowers your charisma (you look like bullies targeting lower leveled units repetitively). Fighting similar alignment characters will also lower your own (or raise it if you fight chaotic units with your own chaotic units) Forgiving Deneb for turning a large chunk of the region she governs into Pumpkinheads will tank your reputation (there's a lot of bizarre things you can do to lower your reputation score) Giving the demon the legendary sword so that he can help you win the war? Yeah, he betrays you when things are done, possesses your body and creates a new empire. Pretty much pulls a Fomortiis One of the more utterly messed up endings is that if you look too good in comparison to the lord you help reclaim the throne for, he and his best knight kill you so that you're not seen as a people's champion. It'd be like if after the Mad King's War, Elincia and Geoffrey killed Ike so that Crimeans wouldn't rally for him to take the throne.

Something similar happens in Der Langrisser. Light Ending: the forces of light wins, Boser is vanquished, the demons race is oppressed (but the demon race part suddenly seems more sinister on later playthroughs). Imperial Ending: the Empire wins, both the forces of light and Chaos are defeated, the demon race is ignored. Chaos Ending: Boser wins, your main character Elwin gets assassinated later, the demon race celebrates their survival but life under Boser isn't really better. Independent: Elwin kills every other faction, Goddess Lushiris is slain, the demon race becomes part of Elwin's new kingdom, but Elwin spends the rest of his life putting down wars every other year. And considering there is no permadeath in Langrisser, death is instead a trigger for bad endings. Like one of your character's bad ending is where her carriage gets attacked by random bandits and she dies like a dog.

@@A_Person_64 Technically Hein will eventually open a portal and disappear in every ending, seeing as how he's still alive trapped inside said portal in Langrisser 4 (& 5 as well since it occurs shortly after the previous game).

The first Tactics Ogre has a Remastered version on PC and modern consoles and is titled "Let us cling together". It has a 2-game called "Knight of Lodis" which is unfortunately stuck on the GBA as it was never ported or remastered to anything else.

@@flextape467 I recommend the PSP version but yes, you can play it on switch, SNES emulator, etc. I’ve played the original SNES version, PSP and Switch version and the PSP is the easiest

​@@flextape467There are multiple versions of the game, but the easiest to obtain is on Steam, Switch or Playstation. The PSP version is well liked especially with the One Vision mod, but I personally like the SNES version. Ogre Battle 64 and especially Ogre Battle on the SNES are RTS/RPG hybrids that inspired Unicorn Overlord and have stronger emergent narratives due to some choices you can make during the gameplay which have ramifications on the gameplay (forgiving a war criminal for example tanks your reputation and depending on decisions made during the game, you have a variety of bad endings).

You get a Master Seal if you don't sacrifice them, for what it's worth. So the game does seem to be suggesting not massacring your own people is the better choice. On the other hand, not much you can do with a Master Seal at that point in the game, unless you just really want to make Miranda work. Moral greyness!

7:05 counter argument, considering the nature of fire emblem you could get in a situation where you simply don't have the units to tank the ballistas and because of that there could be people who really were desperate enough to accept the offer out of necessity, don't know how possible it is though.

It's more of a lack of healing and a lack of ability to take multiple Ballista shots at once. Most units can't take several shots in one turn, so storming through will result in losses. More damningly, if you don't have enough healing, then you simply can't run all of them out of ammo. Hence, the green units can solve that problem, as will somehow shelling out 20k to open the east gate so you can rush the Ballistae down by force.

When I got to this scene I actually just sat there considering the elders offer for like 20 minutes before I finally declined it. I was in a really bleak situation and had no idea how I was going to deal with the ballista myself, so I was super tempted, but ultimately decided to try the level without the help first. It really made me think and was an extremely powerful moment, even when I never actually saw what happened when you take the offer. It was definitely a standout moment from a fantastic game!

Kaga made really amazing games! He said Travant would've been a hero if his homeland could grow food. It's great you played Vestaria Saga, the maps are amazing and it's filled with a lot of grey morality. I really liked Tear Ring Saga and Berwick Saga too.

I think I'd change a few of them into killer ballistae who prioritze Villagers > Leif > Healers > Highest chance to kill via crit This way their lives do actually matter because yeah you can tank the killer ballistae sure. But when your tankiest unit might have 50hp tops, do you really want to take that risk in a game where you can miss a mend?

I can see the sentiment on how this scene goes. Giving you a possible meat shield situation but the problem on not being really needed as a whole. It's definitely interesting to see with how Leif and co have to fight the empire and any little support they can find ends up not being much and the people they wanted to protect are the ones dying for them. Edegard no she's just nuts with the burning of everything down. Never touched one of my units as I clear the map quickly or just have everyone warp. Her stooges are fun to destory too.
