Wow, you're rapid firing these episodes. To be honest, I love them. Loved them last year too. On Friday I have my first meeting with my group. My character already stands, a rogueish bard, who believes himself to be of noble descent. And I honestly can't wait on what the first adventure holds for the group I'll be a part of. Also, a friend of mine told me about when she played Pathfinder a while ago (which I'll also be playing), where she played a stupid barbarian brute. The DM made a dragon appear, wanting the team to run away. ...she attacked it. And her team left her. Then she had a huge aerial battle with the dragon that, from what I've heard, was above their levels. ...AND SHE KILLED IT.

How did they know? How could they tell it was their friendly gnome? Did they put points into their "identify badly burned body with severely melted face" skill? I'm impressed. Most players forget about that skill.
@ishio3409
@ishio3409 8 жыл бұрын
Even if its a burned body with a melted face, the gnome is kinda small and I doubt his body size can be mistaken for that of a human or any other species (maybe a goblin, but I seriously doubt the dungeon boss was a goblin). What I do find weird is that none of them, at any point during the trap, had a chance to realize they are attacking a midget instead of a tall dude. Its not like this entire trap can be instantly executed in less than a second. PS: You could argue its just another gnome, but why would it be? Its more logical to assume that its the same dude you sent to get help...
@lockjaw467
@lockjaw467 8 жыл бұрын
Ishio Kenbu My response is they think the leader is a gnome. I thought the leader is/was a gnome myself. Jared never says they were another race. He said they didn't know their 'leader' was doing evil things with the automatons. One would think the leader of gnomes would be a gnome. I still hold (if that were true and the leader was a gnome) that the carcass, engulfed in flames and a melted face, wouldn't even have clothes left to identify the body. But... I mean, we are debating a fantasy realm.
@taddad2641
@taddad2641 8 жыл бұрын
i think the issue is that it was a tiny ass body.... and more so, it ruins jared's attempt because he had to pull a lotta shit outta his ass. becuase ther eis no way they would not immediately notice that its a gnome. two fo the attacks would missed. hell the sword woulda missed entirely as well
@florentjendrysiak3396
@florentjendrysiak3396 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah but it's D&D, and Jared was the Dungeon Master, so he was telling the story. All the player knew what they had to do, so they just told "I throw the net" or "I pull the wax into his mouth", and didn't think to ask what the person entering the room looked like. And Jared just described their burned victim after their turn. They surprised the gnome (Surprise is the first step of a D&D combat if it's involving stealth), so he could not take action on that turn. Jared could easily hide the fact that their victim was not the Mastermind during the first seconds of the fight. But I agree some of the attacks must have missed.

@@Talon3000 0Or you get to ruin them. I used to play 2nd edition, and I ended up ruining a gigantic quest because I decided to be an ass and literally ripped a walking city in half. Don't ask for specifics please, just know, to this day my friends tell me I did the titanic, and I pissed off our DM. Edit: I can give specifics, if people want it. I'm just not going to post them until they're asked for.

@Plasstyre
@Plasstyre 5 жыл бұрын
@@lastplace3313 Alright, gather around for a story, I guess. It began with what could have been a one off adventure (we never found out, you'll know why), where we were on a walk plate/dome city (it wasn't made clear which, it was basically a city with mechanical spider legs over a lake). For some reason, when I was younger, I was OBSESSED with taking over cities and reaping the profits. I was the only one that wanted to do that too. So, we got on this GIANT city of dwarves (keep that fact in mind), and I had the not so bright idea to try and take it over. My idea on how? Set one of the houses on fire, and put out the fire when it rages. We would come out looking like heroes, and be treated as kings right? Wrong. No one else in the party was on board with it, for good reason. I climbed a building late at night around the center of the walking city, and set fire to it. Our mage, my brother, climbed up to try and put it out as I got off. I missed a very crucial detail. These were dwarves. Dwarves with explosives. Dwarves that kept explosions in a sole building, so they didn't accidentally hurt their city. So my brother takes a walloping blast in the center of the city, as ALL of their built up explosives go off. Our dwarf flies off into the lake, and gets swallowed by a fish, I hit the water hard, and our god wish barbarian is the only one unphased because he was on shore. The city cracked down the middle from the blast, and split in half, sinking deep into the lake. And that, my good sirs, is how I accidentally did the titanic.
@Plasstyre

Wanted to add, the DM later told us the quest was ON the city, which is why the campaign or one off was ruined.

1) Set up as maypole outside goblin encampment, while they are distracted by the festivities steal all their shit. 2) Whittle down one end to be about 4 and a half inches thick, carve a 4 1/2 inch 6 inch deep hole in the other end. Bingo: world's largest wooden condom. 3) Take 2 10 foot poles, wrap the canvas of a tent around them: instant stretcher. 4) Fire a Scorching Ray spell down the centre of the pole and submerge it in water to put out any flames. you now have a didgeridoo. 5) Stop me if you've heard this one before: you walk into town with a cooking pot full of water and a ten foot pole and set up a small campfire, you place the pole in the pot and begin boiling. when people come to ask you what you're doing tell them you're making "10 Foot Pole Soup", and that it's quite delicious. Eventually someone will be adventurous to ask you if they can have some and agree, on the condition they provide an ingredient such as onions, potatoes, carrots, salt or herbs "for seasoning". repeat until you have soup, remove 10 foot pole, serve. 6) Play a Bard. Persuade your GM to allow you to use it as a quaterstaff, Sing "I'll make a man out of you" during every combat to give people Inspiration Die, Get killed for singing "I'll make a man out of you" during every combat. 7) Design Flag, place Flag on the end of pole. Plonk flag in ground and claim that land in the name of your god. if anyone protests remind them that they don't have a flag and you do, "thems the rules". 8) Practice your caber toss skills for when you run into scotsmen, after all it's the one accent literally everybody can do so be prepared for when your GM inevitably falls back on his Sean Connery impression 9) Need to know the time of the day without relying on wind up clocks or magic spells? Set up a sundial, this doesn't work if you're in the underdark but then again there you can just use dangle your leg off the beaten path and your Hitpoints as a countdown timer. 10) Learn to throw 10 ft pole. Take Tablecloth (which is a surface, not an object that can be "closed") and inscribe it with Glyphs of Warding full of damaging spells/explosive runes. Wrap tablecloth around 10 ft pole. Throw into enemy camp. Stand back. (note this only works if you take GoW as written, you probably won't get away with doing this twice.)

To even what a certain number roll means in whatever the thing you are explaining! It is awesome, since people like me who doesn't play d&d can understand everything in each vid.

Between this and the Ballista Bat from last year, it sounds like Jared stacks his games with solid players. Sometimes being a good DM is all about having a good group of core players who are able to bounce off each other...something that can be a bit harder in pick up games. Did you at least bury that poor gnome?

I mean, you can't play it alone, but you'll definitely need at least a Player's Handbook. Buying all three core books (Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual) costs about $80-90.

@darkjager7010 8 жыл бұрын
Actually you can find it all online, the person who should be worried is your DM, he needs to buy all 3 of them or download/search for em online, but if you get a DM who has all the books, you don't really need to buy the book.

Alternately, find some of the many, many, micro or full RPG's that are free online. Dungeons and Dragons is only one of hundreds you can play, and I honestly find it as one of my least favorite for teaching new players and playing in general. Unfortunately, its one of the only pen and paper RPG's most people have heard of.

The plan felt legit good up to the point where the net gets weighted down with those sticky goo bags. That would apply some serious penalties for the enemy and could really help a ton in a boss fight. Afterwards however the whole wax/chalk/acid thing was pointlessly gimmicky and they did it just for lols I guess. It'd be much more efficient to just shoot/stab the immobilized target if the group was really tryharding.
