If you really want to see a documentary about the “ most elusive man in North America” watch Alone in the Wilderness about Dick Proenneke. He returned from Vietnam, and was kinda over everyone, and lived alone in a cabin in Alaska up into his 80s. He had one friend who brought supplies via bush plane every 3 months. The documentary doesn’t go into great detail about his philosophical discoveries, but follows his journal about how he was able to do what he did.

People have lost the plot on what it means to be self sufficient in these comments. As far as I'm concerned this is just some old crazy introvert dude wondering around in the woods. It has been said by others but I will say it also: Great subject, abysmal documenting. 8 minutes into a 14 minute documentary is when the subject is finally revealed?! The majority of the documentary was not of the subject but rather the filmmakers' adventures talking to locals... which is pretty piss-poor if it took them a few weeks in Vernon to finally contact a local reporter who has written articles on the subject. The whole documentary seems like the directors just said, "Lets see if we can lazily find someone, record our vacation and then go home as soon as we find them," and of course not bother to actually get much documented except for maybe 3 quotes of substance and nothing more. This should have been much more substantial as Dag is getting quite old. Rather than focus on on the 'why he is up there' they should have focused at least on the 'how'. It may be selfish of others to ask him to share more of his life, but in a world where kids are glued to tablets, he is a source of inspiration.

If he lives so remotely, how is he getting to town, buying food, staying clean? You know all the things that might have made this interesting. You know he's not doing all this on foot in a B.C. winter. So come clean - what's the real story, and I don't mean 8 minutes of chatting with the locals and 2 minutes of drone footage and a minute of titles and narration in a 14 minute piece.

@thebeyonder23536 жыл бұрын
Well first id say he's living in the bus all winter, the forest has everything, food, water, firewood for heat and in the winter the temps will freeze food like meats and stuff can have a wood stove in bus a lot of people do, may have social security benefits check every month also to go to town have a beer and go back in the hills, he's damn good shape for his age but I think the running in woods with out a gun is stupid, I live in the hills of the black hills we have no bears but have mountain lions and wolves, and I've been stalked by the cats and 2 times surrounded by wolves its not fun, and he's up where the wolves get to be 260 plus pounds and grizzly bears, and that one mountain lion that guy shot up there was frikin humungous, binged.it/2GPpMp2

This was very good. But the music and narration was too cheesy to my liking. Just too "cinematic". I was so pleased to hear Dag speak for the first time, without any meddling in the form of the weird background music or some "special effects" on his picture. Also, can you please enlarge the things that you had written and placed at the center of the video? It was very tiny and hard to read. Mostly the technical aspects of this creation were annoying to me. Otherwise, overall it's a good, informative and interesting video.

For some, they need the company of others. For me, I can travel to the Sylvania Recreational Area, near Watersmeet, Michigan, in early May, after the ice goes off the lakes. Two portages later I'm on Whitefish Lake, alone for two weeks. I fish, I cook, I tend the campfire. I make a sail using two paddles and my rain pullover to sail across the lake. I read books. I play my harmonica. The solitude restores my soul and I'm very contented.

Its no contradiction, he doesnt understand it and doesn't try to. How many people have made a conscious decision to spend their lives infront of a screen ? Or is it something pushed on us by the revolving door of cultural conditioning ?
@taxthesocialist26022 жыл бұрын
@@jakecolless5152 It's neither. Survival has been taken out of the equation for those in Western countries. Too much comfort seems to break apart the mind and soul. That's why wokeism has infected young people. They have no purpose and therefore no drive. Their inability to see their own privilege blinds from accepting personal responsibility for their own choices and thus, they blame "society" for their ills. Notice wokeism doesn't exist in third world countries because they are faced with dangers that doesn't exist for us here.

great show...I too live in Vernon BC, of course heard about Dag....hey wanna hear something else?? my grandfather also in Vernon is 89 years old, still smokes 1 to 2 packs of cigarettes per day AND 1 to 2 bottles of whiskey per day!!! HE HAS NEVER DRANK WATER, JUICE, TEA OR COFFEE.....he drinks milk with breakfast at 6:00am, then 7:00 starts coke and whiskey, drinks lunch, all day everyday for over 70 years, he has supper ( really lunch) at 6:00pm has milk again, but still lives by himself I help him split get firewood, I drink with him as well he's never had stroke no heart attacks no cancers etc....he's Irish, rest of our family is native. but yep I was just at his place today....maybe its the fresh air in Vernon and alcohol that keeps us living forever, but this is 100% true..... doctors cannot believe he neve3 drinks anything except come and whiskey and then couple glasses of milk per day, I'm in my mid 40s and I've NEVER seen him drink anything other than whiskey with coke, or milk....he hates taste of everything even coke by itself....great video, nice quality.
