Well as for how he beat Poseidon, realistically it probably shouldn't have happened, but in a video explaining the gods' powers Jay said in EPIC that Poseidon is really a long-range fighter, and if you were ABLE to get up close (not that Poseidon would make it easy) you'd probably be able to take him down, plus the wind bag jet pack MASSIVELY boosted his mobility, as well as the speed giving more force to his attacks. So, there are SOME justifications for how Ody won there. And like you said, the whole "I'll take your son and gouge his eyes" was because thats what Ody did to Poseidon's son, so hes like "if you don't choose to die right here, I'll return the favor".

I feel like Ody's beat down of Poseidon is pretty justified, considering the windbag contained the ENTIRE force of Poseidon's own storm, and that force was propelling Ody at the speed of sound, with a hell of a lot of momentum, I feel that detail gets downplayed by the 3d animation making the wind bag seem controllable on Ody's end.

Honestly, in Greek mythology, there are many stories of mortals defeating gods through strategy and battle because the Greek gods feel more connected to humanity they are more like us than they are to, like the Titans they were born from but thats mostly how Greek people wanted to personify the power of nature in the world so it's not that unbelievable especially since Oddyseus is also 1/3 a demigod 😅

For me when he said he'd gouge out his son's eye unless he willingly died it kind of just reminded me of him saying he'd kill Ody unless he apologized for doing that same thing to the cyclops aka HIS son. Idk if it was the tempo or context it just made me think of that

I don’t think Ody beat him because he’s stronger than Poseidon or anything, I think the reason he beat him was because Poseidon did NOT expect him to fight back. He was not expecting Odysseus to do anything in return so he wasn’t using his full power and wasn’t trying that hard

"You didn't stop when I begged you - told me to close my heart! _You_ said the world was dark. Didn't you say that 'ruthlessness is mercy upon our-'" Even after everything that happened, even when faced with the being that caused the deaths of his men (557 of them directly and 43 indirectly), he tried to resolve things peacefully... but Poseidon ignored him, and destroyed the last bit of mercy he had left. When he finds the suitors in his palace, I can't help but feel like he's not even going to give them a _first_ chance.

I choose to believe that Ares' amped Ody during the Poseidon fight with his version of quick thought. Red eyes and a level of anger and rage we haven't seen from Ody ever. It would tie into his respect and worry for Athena during the end of God Games, and tie back into what he wanted Ody to do during the Trojan war and with his encounter with Scylla. Which is daring to fight head on and trust in your own physical strength.

The part where he seems to be being pulled by his friends, mother, and crew, I interpreted it as him being reminded of the heavy burdens of their deaths. Him looking traumatized is realizing he can't die there. If he dies, all their deaths will be all for nothing. Yes, their words may be comforting, telling him that it will be okay even if he dies there, but Ody understood that if he dies, that will be his last failure as a captain. I also think his last breathe is a sign of rebirth and him fully embracing to be a monster. It was him being ruthless so for one last time he will bring mercy to himself. It will be his revenge for them.

Well Mortal beating gods in Greek mythology is Uncommon but has happened! Greek gods can't be killed, period. Not even other gods or titans or giants can kill them, they are fully Immortal but they can be hurt or imprisoned or defeated! Sisyphus beat Thanatos, the god of death (Not THE dead, that's Hades) being chaining him up and locking him up in a chest! Now he does eventually lose but he still won the first round! Diomedes, who was Trojan hero and absolute Badass (He was mentioned in the first song :D ) fought and wounded Aphrodite and when Ares came for revenge, proceeded to beat him too with Athena being his chariot driver! Achilles after his boyfriend dies, goes full fury mode and starts killing basically every Trojan he can reach, and this ended up filling up a river full of bodies which angered the River god and he tried to fight Achilles and Achilles proceeded to absolutely ruin him, and he was stopped only when Zeus sent Hera and I think Hepheastus or maybe Hermes to stop the fight. Also Achilles was so terrifying that when Apollo tried to stop, Achilles proceeds to chase Apollo around Troy lol And finally, I believe Heracles beat up a few but don't quote me on that I might be wrong So possible but can't be killed is the rule!

As for the whole story with Charybdis (The monster Odysseus fought in the song w the same name), Charybdis is sisters with Scylla, they could've met Ody WAY sooner if he went the other way instead of Scylla, and if he did a LOT more men would've died along with probably Ody himself. Pretty sure with those two's story. In actual Greekology Charybdis was a normal goddess/nymph (forgot which) that shot arrows from a fig tree to shoot down sailors, often being called a whirlpool from her skill. Which is why she's considered either a whirlpool or a large sea monster in other cases. Scylla due to some jealousy stuff, got turned into the monster she is now by Circe, who casted her into that cave and forced her to stay there for all eternity, Charybdis as well but for some other reason.
@akaittou
@akaittou 2 ай бұрын
Charybdis became a stationary monster because she helped poseidon in a fight he had with zeus by sinking some islands so their land became par tof poseidon's domain instead. Poseidon borderline forced her to help him, and as her punishment zeus thunderbolted her so hard she lost her mind and her mobility and ende dup becoming a mindless ravenous monster. It's a common theory floated in the epic community that charybdis being neighbours with scylla is the reason why the sirens described the route with them as somewher eposeidon't won't dare to roam. Charybdis was his daughter and his insistence in forcing her to take part in his fight is what made her into a mindless monster.
@OdysPupper
@OdysPupper 2 ай бұрын
@akaittou ooh yeah. I keep forgetting Scylla and Chary aren't actully sisters, so calling them neighbors just sounds funny. I feel bad for both their fates, both of Scylla's interpreted theories resulted in jealous people punishing her (Circe being one of them). Poseidon would be scared to roam near both of them considering how ~dangerous~ they are. They may not be nymphs or something but they were related to gods so they have a lotta power.

6:12 - I ask myself this all the time to the point I created a tier list where I divide the cast in tiers of availability: TIER 1: PRETTY MUCH CONFIRMED: Jorge (Ody, also literally wrote the whole goddamn thing), Talya (Circe), Teagan (Athena), Armando (Eury), Mason (Tiresias) and Luke (Zeus) - They are all confirmed to be professionals who are formally trained in musical theater and work in the field. There'd have to be some great scheduling issues. TIER 2: ASSORTED MUSICIANS - Athena (again), Telemachus, Poseidon, Aeolus, Hermes: They have their own somewhat established musical careers outside musical theater, so Idk. Also, I have no idea if Broadway or wherever the show my go to requires any form of certification from artists or anything in order to be hired and these guys are the ones I couldn't find anything like that so I didnt put them in Tier 1, except for Kira (Aeolus) but she still goes here because she is working on her own stuff, and my the looks of her insta she stays booked and busy, so it may cause hiccups when epic comes around. I put Teagan here too because her music career is going well, winning awards and stuff, so idk. TIER 3: Hera, Ares, Antinous, Aphrodite, Penelope, Polites, Scylla, Calypso: These are musicians that I have no info on their projects, like, at all so it's a mystery if they'll be available. (Jesus, that sounds so shady). But, their presence is not beyond the realm of possibility. TIER 4: THE FAM - Hephaestus, Anticlea: I don't think Jay's mom and dad are going on stage guys

I found the jet pack wind bag off putting- so I'm imagining it with just a little bit of a twist. He still has the bag on his back, but the air sort of takes the form of wings. I have my thoughts on calypso's situation, but I dont want to bore you with too much reading so I'll try shortening, it, but it might seem a bit lacking that way so if you have anymore questions just ask. Sorry to update this for the second time, but under the sake of fairness, I'm gonna shoot myself in the foot cause I was listening to love in paradise, and i realised it is explicitly said, both by Athena and even Calypso herself, that Odyseuss is trapped there, by Calypso. It isnt a spell placed by some old God, its one done by Calypso herself. This basically defeats a good chunk of the points I made, but I should have checked my facts first. Thus the correct line of events is Calypso is trapped as a child, goes ever so slightly insane, Ody arrives, Calypso traps him, then he is eventually set free by the Gods? This brings even more questions to me, cause it seems Zues intentionally sent ody to calypso's isle, and can dictate who stays there, which insinuates that he trapped calypso? I want to read the orignial mythology, but I know Jorge took some creative liberty here and there, so it might not be that helpful. Just wanted to clear my mistake, didnt want to spread false info, but I'm leaving the original right below so you can tell what i was talking about. When put on paper, Calypso has suffered a lot, in way most people can't fully imagine because of how specific it is. To sum it up, it goes like this: your left on an island all by your self, you are unable to leave, and no one can even find your island, so no visitors. The Gods know of this, and some can even visit you (like hermes) but they dont, ever. You've been there for over a hundered years, you cant die, and at most you have a few animals around (the only confirmed animal i've seen is a crab that appeared in the animatoin showed in the livestream). With no parents, elders, or gaudrians, you've had no help in develeoping emeotionally thus will lack basic social and emotional skills. Finally, someone arrives on your island, and they are alive. You think this is a sign of good things to come; theres so much you haven't done, things you could never do, but now they are possible. You could have friendship, talk to someone, maybe even find love; you cant let this chance go, you thought no one could ever come to this island, theres no garantee he will stay, what if he leaves? what will you do? sit around for another hundred years? No, you won't, you will do what you have to, just to make him stay, just to make sure your never alone again, and plus, it's not so bad here, he'll like it here, and he'll love me. That more or less sums up Calypso's situation, a victim repeating the cycle they were trapped in, literally. This isn't to say she's justified and free of concequences, I think the mere fact that she got an 'I love you' of any kind from Odyseuss was kind enough. She isnt a monster, she isn't evil, she is, in a sense, broken, and she thought Odyseuss could fix her, he couldn't, and she's not at fault for thinking like that most people have thought that too. She was stuck there for years, and believed Odyseuss would be too, and so it was ok to keep him for herself. The issue is she went around this situation all wrong, she wanted something she couldnt have, becuase she's never had anything. Most of us would do the same in her situation, thus, it isnt wrong to sympathise with her, or feel bad for her, just dont excuse the things she has done. Furthermore, dont villainise her as its unnecessary. I said I'd try and shorten this, and i promise, i tried, I just had a lot to say. If you disagree with my thoughts, or find inaccuracies with what I have said, please tell me, I tried to find the right information for this, but I wouldn't be suprised if i still messed up. no I agree with you! I think she is very complex and isnt a simple "bad guy" I wont villainize her but I also dont wanna move on be like eh she's forgiven after this yknow? I saw some people say people will like her more and forgive her mistakes after this song and I personally disagree. I didnt grow to like her but i grew to understand her side a lil more and have some empathy! Shes clearly Someone who deserves lots of love but at the same time life is unfair for her. She thought this was her new life to start smth new with someone but it ended up leaving a bigger toll on ody and more emotional baggage. I also went into this with a mindset that she SA ODY (Not confirmed but implied a lil during the first song we still dont know though in this version of the story) which personally makes it hard to say anything. emotional and SA isnt smth I can ever forgive or move past on so thats why I felt so conflicted cause it was never confirmed nor denied so I wanted to be careful with my words especially since ody in this song did say " I love you just not in the way you want me to" does that mean he sees her as a friend or just saying that as a last goodbye and time they spent together? Idk i loved to hear your pov on it tho!

@@Mooniemew I get what you mean, especially about the SA part, I never thought about that and now that I am, it seems a bit too possible cause Calypso probably had minimal understanding of things like personal space and bounderies, her doing things within the lines of SA might is a bit too likely for comfort. Thanks for the clarification on your part, helped me learn more too.

42:16 Yes, we all do, stripping the odysseus connection. It's while not a break off song. It's an acceptance and moving on song. For the most part, we all will experience this. Think this connection to someone is real and going to last only to find out. It was never meant to be. And blaming on your own heart, asking why you have to feel that way. Knowing the heart is unreasonable and illogical. No matter how hard you try too.

Ody stabbing Poseidon is so 👏 goddamn 👏 cathartic. Ans you were right, Odys mentioned whats happened but he hasnt really had the chance to actually vent and get those emotions out, especially after he went on the Monster path of repression and then being stuck with Calypso, who we know he never said anything just based on the line in Love in Paradise I would honestly love to see one of the animatics in the future show him crying a little bit

Atlas is Calypso's father, a titan who supports the heavens on his shoulders. "sky as a friend" strikes differently. atlas is stuck holding up the heavens and Calypso is stuck on her island because she sided with her father in the war between the gods and the titans. if I remember correctly.

I know there are some better explanations, but I would like to think Ody could win here not only because of the wind bag, but also because he can't technically die since the gods allowed him to return home after the previous saga. So it's essentially an unbreakable force versus an immovable object; the only thing that decides the winner is whose will is stronger. And yes, Ody's will to see his wife is so strong that it rivals that of the gods.

I'll be honest. I'm not a fan of the jetpack. 600 strike, writing-wise in my opinion, is probably the weakest song in EPIC. It makes Poseidon so much less threatening and not in a good way. Edit: Actually I think an even bigger issue is just how contradictory this song feels to the rest of EPIC and it kinda preemptively wastes the catharsis of Odysseus being able to fight back which should be saved for the suitors. I have a very hard time believing that the Posiedon in Ruthlessness and 600 strike are the same being. It really breaks the immersion. Does it ruin EPIC? No, absolutely not. 1 bad song alongside 34 (currently released) fantastic songs doesn't ruin the entire musical. It's just kinda disappointing especially considering how hyped I was for this saga.

Look I know that it’s not really a one to one but literally swap Odysseus and Calypso’s gender should give a clear indication about what’s wrong. Let’s also not forget Calypso is a god and is well aware that not only does the guy have a wife but wants to get back to her. Like sure it sucks about her situation but situations don’t give victims passes on being abusers, intentional or not.
