One reason I think John Powell is he best composer in the industry is how seriously he takes animation. Most composers just make some random orchestral underscore, but Powell (like Hans Zimmer, his mentor) actually writes music. Awesome music to be exact.

Scenes like this are why Horton Hears a Who is long and away the best Dr. Seuss movie. On top of getting every character right, on top of staying true to the story while still making it feature length, on top of the animation looking incredibly faithful to the signature Seuss style, the music almost tells the story for us. John Powell has a unique talent of musical storytelling, and this scene epitomizes that.
