The Most Epic View In Rio De Janeiro - But It's Hard To Get There

Snow & Curt

Күн бұрын

This is the most epic hike in Brazil and possibly the most dangerous place in Rio de Janeiro. I have been looking up at Pedra da Gavea since we arrived in Rio, as our camp site is nestled in at the base of Brazil's largest monolith. This is one of the most difficult hikes I have attempted. This is one steep rugged scramble through the jungle, with challenges I have never faced. The views will blow you away, but it is one intense and slightly scary climb to the top of this incredible perch over this breath taking skyline of Rio de Janeiro.
Cheers

Curt, I cried about 3/4 of the way through. I was overwhelmed is all I can say. I am recovering from back surgery an unable to climb mountains right now and you made it seem like I was climbing with you. Now, the last quarter of the video was terrifying. I was say "oh Curt, please use the ropes". I have fallen from a climb going up a side of a mountain and lived thankfully (had to be rescued) and I'm so thankful you made it safely. Outstanding. What an amazing journey. Thank you again for sharing.

The part where he climbs and doesn't use the rope is relatively dangerous, if he slipped and fell, he wouldn't be able to survive, I say this because I've already done this trail a dozen times and I can guarantee that it's safe using the rope, but people like him and myself included, they don't agree to do any different. Wonderful video that makes me miss my country. Best wishes to you.

@@CatBalou38 There were many deaths on the part of the wall, where the climbing takes place, on the trail I only have 2 reports. The trail presents relative danger where there is a rope and it is where stubborn people, who do not follow the guides' instructions, usually pay a painful price.

GÁVEA (in Portuguese) It is a platform or board set on a plank wheel at the top of a ship's masts and used as a lookout. From this description comes the name of this mountain: "Pedra da Gávea". It was named by Portuguese sailors who recognized the shape of a crow's nest in its silhouette when they saw it on January 1, 1502. It's really the most difficult (very difficult) trail here in Rio de Janeiro. CONGRATULATIONS, Curt!

The história of the Park of Tijuca is very interesting. Scientists from around the world come and study this area because it was a project of reforestation. As it had been a coffee plantation, the water source eventually dried up. Then, the forest was replanted. That is why there is so much Jackfruit tress as they grow and reproduce quickly. Today, the water in the Tijuca forest is pure and it is possible to drink directly from its source. It is a marvel!!

What a nice trip. Fun fact: the largest monolith in BR is "Pedra Riscada" in Minas Gerais. There are other pretty big ones in Espírito Santo and Rio state, as well as in northeastern states :) I guess you would love the Serra do Espinhaço range, Mantiqueira range, Chapada dos Veadeiros, Terra Ronca and Peruaçu caves, Pico da Bandeira/Castelo/Pancas (ES), and maybe even Jalapão/Serras Gerais in Tocantins.. Raso da Catarina, São Francisco Canyons and the giants stones of Quixadá are great in the Caatinga biome, not sure if you'll make it that far north, though. The best beaches are in the Costa Verde (on sunny days), Região dos Lagos and the states of Bahia, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará. Santa Catarina as well, but you already felt it :) Hope you stay safe and have a wonderful experience down there!

Wow, Curt! Even knowing that you made it safely, (because I’m watching your video) you still wrecked me. I had to skip forward through the steepest, scariest part of you climbing the rock face. That was intense for me. 🫣Can’t imagine what it was like for you. 😳 Has Snow forgiven you, yet, for doing that part? 😂

Wow, Kurt that was such a stomach turning climb. Kudos to anyone who succeeds that climb. Breathe taking views. Hopefully you had time to relax after this hike. Thanks for sharing the journey. Venture on.

I had to keep telling myself while we watched this I know he’s ok because they are showing the footage so I know he made it back safely. You make me so nervous on these expeditions of yours my friend. Beautiful views though as always.

Props to you Curt. I am 35 years old and don't have the strength neither the courage to do this. Last time I did anything similar, was 4 years ago and I cound't walk for 2 days due to leg pain. Good to see you have the guts and the shape to do it. Congrats.

Found I was holding my breath too!! Snow… I would have been a nervous wreck waiting for him. It is a beautiful view but not worth the danger!! Thank you tho for sharing.

Respect Curt! I literally was having a panic attack for the first time watching it. I spent my childhood looking at this mountain top from my bedroom in Ipanema, more than fifty years ago before I moved to london. Now I look at It and say: WTF! I never thought I would, but there, I said those three lil letters for the first time ever 😊 I wish you both health and joy but please keep watching the birds, don’t try to be one. I know it sounds selfish, but I do love your channel. Spectacular!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG Curt, I can hardly type, that scared the heck out of me! Around 30 minutes I actually covered my screen, I could not watch! It is crazy but when you were at the top, I was tearing up, I think in appreciating how you must have felt! That was one monumental feat, congratulations but, if you were my husband….man, no way! You must have bionic knees, quads and hamstrings, you are not 30 yrs old but your legs must be! I will never forget this heart pounding video but, that was crazy! Snow, you are one amazing, supportive wife! 💕🙏🏼🇨🇦
