I've never understood this joke, made most famously in "Wayne's World." The longstanding guitar-store joke before that was "Smoke On The Water." "Stairway" is actually fairly hard to play, including the opening chords, so it's not like guitar shops are constantly overrun by people playing it. It doesn't really make any sense.
@havable3 ай бұрын
@@unclewalt1 They used to be. Stairway isn't really that hard, its soulful. What you'll never hear in a guitar shop is the intro to Crazy On You.
@unclewalt13 ай бұрын
@@havable The intro isn't super hard (though there is that one chord) but it's hard enough that not a ton of people are playing it in guitar shops. People who are able to play it are able to play lots of things.

If ever you want to know when a guitarist is absolutely awesome listen for guitar Squeak or squeal, that’s when you hear that annoying noise between chord changes as the artist slides his hand up and down the neck and his fingers drag along the strings squeaking along the way. When you don’t hear it you know the guitarist is exceptional. This artist is exceptional.

I love how this trope of the "no stairway" bit... It was a joke made famous by wayne's world... i've literally played that song in every single guitar shop. I've ever been to and never had a problem with anyone saying anything. The last time I did it was at palin music center in springfield, missouri, and one of the attendants knowing I was just shopping around for a new amp, and in no way able to afford anything over a 1000 went and handed me a $6000 PRS custom 24 and proceeded to just let me jam. It still cracks me up.How many people believe that is a real thing lol
