You can support CDH UK directly here: cdhuk.org.uk/support-us/ You can support the Sick Children's Trust directly here: www.committedgiving.uk.net/sickchildrenstrust/ I misspeak in this video, incorrectly saying that the 1/200 infant mortality rate is 5%. It is 0.5%.

Same here. I nearly lost my wife and daughter during childbirth due to pre-eclampsia. Maxed out on three blood pressure medicines and still hitting 190-110, and then dropping not a minute later to 90-30, and the bpm for my daughter dropped below 30. The room filled with doctors who ripped everything out of the walls and took them both out, without saying a word to me about what was happening. All I could do was sit down and focus on breathing, because I knew if I moved I'd do something I'd regret, even though it was no one's fault.

Daughter was born a month premature. Her lungs were weak and she suffered from high levels of bilirubin. She nearly died the day after she was brought home. Wife did CPR on her and got her back. Took her to hospital where she was placed in a tank with ultraviolet light (phototherapy) in an effort to get her liver to start working. I forget how many days we stayed in the hospital. I don't try to think of those days. Today my baby girl is a D&D playing college student. The infant mortality statistics reported by countries is according to their own standards. Those standards vary greatly from nation to nation. If the world had to report using U.S.A's standards, We would be near the lowest in terms of mortality. China for example doesn't not consider the following circumstances as live births or count in their census data. 1. Death within 24 hours of birth 2. Miscarriages 3. Abortions (forced or otherwise).
@StormTheSquid
@StormTheSquid Ай бұрын
@@popecj29people have this weird perception that America is a developed nation and thus can't have the problems of starvation, infant mortality, etc. but that's a facade. We'd probably still be awful even if everyone used the same standards. Edit: Also, 2 and 3 aren't live births, so they shouldn't be considered as such, regardless of whatever your political stance on the latter is.

We had care-giving in agenda as an item of discussion at the United Nations the previous week... Different countries have different ideas of what care-giving is and who a care-giver is, but we should have no divergences on the matter. Healthcare must be free for those who cannot afford it. This is a state's responsability currently carried out by NGOs (in the US). Hope your family and the kids all good. Those rolls should be done only with the dices on a table. Thank you so much for sharing. I am so happy to hear that your nephews are safe and healthy. I’m in my early 20s and father of two. Unfortunately, our first child went to be with the Lord one week after we became aware of their existence. That truly flipped my world upside down. Hearing your story brought me to tears. Your kind words about this topic really touched me. Thank you for sharing your story and using your platform to let others know they are not alone.

My son was here 13 days. I'm so very glad your sister didn't have my story. May your family be healed as Atticus grows and begins to thrive.

Adorable little future GM's. I can remember my eye opening moment the first time I saw my daughter. Knowing that we wasn't even supposed to be able to have kids and then being truly blessed with a healthy little girl and my wife was okay. It's a total mix of fellings and realization.

I was born over a month late with several extreme complications at the time of my birth. I was lucky in that I was born in a country with socialised medicine and doctors who cared and charity organisations like the one in the video. Its so crucially important for us and our families to keep care available -- and ideally, to increase access. This is such a good thing you're doing and I'm SO happy to hear your nephews are ok.

I love your videos - my DM and the rest of my party love them too. We could tell you're funny, charismatic, creative, articulate, and smart. But now we know you're also kind and sensible and immensely respectable. You're a good man.

My 6-month-old daughter was diagnosed with cancer. Luckily, she's still with us 2 years later, but it was, no contest, the scariest and most horrible experience of my life to consider my baby girl's mortality. We give where we can and hope to be able to give more one day. The help we received while going through it honestly made a huge difference. Thanks for sharing this!

Will, thank you so much for sharing. As a brand-new father of twins (boy and girl) I was in absolute tears. Our twins just turned 4 months and we are incredibly blessed to have them with us after their NICU stay as well. I'm so glad the boys are doing well. The twin community is strong and we're here for each other... we have to be.

My youngest son is 2.5 years old and was diagnosed with Left-sided CDH early in my pregnancy. The doctors who study and treat CDH around the world are incredible and caring. As a fellow CDH family, thank you for being so open about this very scary and variable condition! Best of luck and love to you, your nephew and his family!

I lost my son about 8 weeks before his due date. This video hits me. You arent a doctor or nurse, but you are helping to PAY for one. That's just as good IMO.

You have my respect for bringing this up. Not a downer at all, but an uplifting reminder that we should be thankful for life and health. Neither are to be taken for granted and will not stay around forever.

As a father of a child who was born at 32 weeks and living at a “family house” while she was in NICU for a month and a half, I was hanging on your every word hoping you would not tell us what is all too common in NICU stories. I am so happy for your sister and her partner to “get lucky” as they did. Thank you for sharing. I hope your donation totals are legendary!

Great message. You are right. We should talk about it more. We should all advocate for affordable and accessible healthcare. Being a children's hospital after my youngest daughter's birth and meeting other families while there, changed my life and understanding of the world on a visceral level. She's doing great now, thirteen years later. My wife and I have been raising money and advocating for better health care options ever since. Thanks for sharing your story. I wish you and your sister and her family and your new nephews all the best.
