Btw: old day Messenger of Peace + Wave Motion Cannon could kill you, that's why all decks had card to handle different situation (now all have handtraps but can't have MST or Cyclone?). I think game had more internations, even without handtraps (ok, it had few formats with FTKs and it was bad, but emergency banlist can repair it)

But special summoning has gotten to the point of being toxic as well, most floodgates were made so slow down decks that special summon half their deck and 3/4 of their extra deck in one turn. Special summoning would be a lot more accepting if it had limitations to keep the game in balance. Not to mention spitting an entire field of monsters with free negates and disruptions for literally no cost.

Stun is not control. Control is about loading up on interruptions like handtraps, book of moon, dogmatica punishment, etc., and making sure you use them well enough to win before you run out. Playing a floodgate, or more likely multiple, and essentially ending the opponents turn before they can make a single play does not fit that description. I love to play a slower, grindier game with decks like salamangreat and vanquish soul, but I do it without any of the cards in this video

To be honest, they should all be made legal and here is why: Modern Yugioh is no longer an interactive card game which is fun for both or four players in a 10min or so duel. It has become a solitaire, quick-effect and negate hell making it very unfun to "play" if the first turn consists of 4min with 40+ effects and summons going on, only to then end on a board with generic, overpowered and way too easily accessible cards like Baronne de Fleur and Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon so that the other player cannot move at all. Limiting special summons and especially negation effects (like at least 60% of handtraps) would be a blessing to Yugioh as a game because it would be more of a strategic game like chess with a luck component like UNO rather than making one player be able to cook dinner during one turn and then be unable to respond. We need more cards like Nibiru, Vanity, Jowgen, Barrier Statues and Summon Limit instead of Ash Blossom, Baronne, Snake-Eyes, Kashtira, Tearlament, Labrynth Cooclock, Junk Speeder, etc.

Don't forget the entire Shaddoll archetype has their Fusion monsters punishing Special Summons. Hell, El Shaddoll Consttruct was banned for 4 years.

Special summoning should cost the summoner between 200 to 1000 life points considering the star level/ exceed level of the monster. Once upon a time you actually had to pay for a special summon. Either through the death of a monster or through life points.

Special summoning used to be special because not many cards let you get an additional summon. The game's ridiculous speed and current state came off the back of Special Summoning becoming more and more common.

I’ve played all formats at this point and I’d like to say the format you want was utter slow play garbage 🗑️ I’d rather have an 8 minute duel than a 20 minute duel just flipping cards. I remember trying to make Koa’ki Meirus work. It…almost did. Drago was used not just because of the floodgate, but also because Maximus was the best boss and was a Dragon-Type, so maintaining Drago without Diamond Core or discarding Iron Core was important. Then again, I stand by that Hydro Barrier is a much more annoying Koa’ki Meiru to deal with, would be the most had it not been for Doom, lol.

Well you are misrepresenting a bit..those Koaki Mierus were popular during the original Chaos Dragon meta. He was a 1900 ATK normal summonable monster that stopped cards like Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, Lightpulser Dragon and Darkflare Dragon. That deck exclusively ran on spamming the special summons of light and dark aside from sidedecking. It was no surprise any deck that COULD run this would. Even Chaos Dragon decks themselves would side deck it for a mirror match.

I do enjoy a game balance where impeding your opponent's forging of an unbreakable board state while performing no less than 368 full combos for the next 37 hours and 8 minutes is considered proper yet gating anything in the slightest or at all is a crime against humanity. Our Turn turbo is a healthy game state. . .

Before my best friend got quintet magician I was getting better against his magician decks that were constantly getting better and in turn I was adapting as well. Quintet magician put a brutal ending to my adaptations eventually I figured out that I needed to lower it's attack and then that jerk had to get 2 more. F that card! Hell now he's bringing them out in 10 turns, it's BS!

If I could add one rule to the game it would be to add a limit to Special summons per turn like 3 per turn 5 tops. It would make turns faster, limit one turn kills, and make summoning boss monsters an actual accomplishment instead of 6 boss monsters in turn one.

All that really does is move the meta to something similar to eldlich, and kill a lot of weak decks. Like, look at salad. A deck that needs like 15 summons to do anything, and is still completely far. There are many changes that would help the game, but this wouldn't have the intended effect. Just my opinion though
