The Most Important Cartier Release in Years | Tank Must Solarbeat

After a 5 months wait, my Solarbeat is finally here. I think this is a most important release for Cartier because the tank is their most renowned watch, but it's been out of most people's price range. With the revival of the Must line, Cartier tries to give budget conscious people a Tank. Did they succeed, or have they diluted the Tank down too much? Watch to find out!

I was chasing after the Solarbeat throughout December, and to my dismay, I heard from many retailers in London that they were out of stock. A Christmas miracle happened on the 26 December when I found the last Solarbeat in a boutique and bought it in a heartbeat! Loved it since - glad you do too!

Congratulations Max on the new Cartier Must Tank Solar-beat, the watch is absolutely beautiful and no difference with the Tank Luis Cartier. The Solar- beat technology is a big achievement by Cartier, offering a power-solar quartz movement that it will run for at least 16 years, before its rechargeable battery needs to be replaced. Such amazing how Cartier developed a technology, using photovoltaic cells underneath the roman numerals without compromising the aesthetics and classics of the watch. For me, is a Tank and looks like the Tank, keeping the same classic and luxury and also, keeping the history for more than a century. I’m also at the waiting list at the Cartier boutique and I was debating between the Solar-Beat and the XL model with the in-house 1847mc automatic movement however, the solar-Beat is a win-win due to the size and designs from the classic Tank Luis de Cartier. One more time, congratulations 👍👍👍

Nice one Max, congratulations on getting your Solarbeat Tank. I have pondered a Tank or one of the other rectangular models you mention for quite some time now and some how I've not got around to doing something about it. I guess my rectangular watch itch was scratched when I got the Reverso. I'll have to take a look at the Solarbeat at the AD at some point when or if supply improves although it might just kick off another itch that might have to be scratched at some point.

Another excellent review video, Max. And you're right about the itch. I have both a mechanical Longines Dolce Vita (Ref. L57574719) and a Seiko solar tank (Ref. SUP880). And yet, Andy Warhol was right: The Cartier Tank is the watch to wear. I want one. It's just a struggle to lay down over $2000 for a stainless steel quartz watch.

I tried the regular Must quartz in large, I believe the same size as this, and as much as my heart was in it, it was just too small for my 7.5” 19CM wrist unfortunately. If I did have it, I wouldn’t have worn it much. So I opted for a Santos in medium instead and while it too is small, it has more wrist presence, and scratched that itch. Great review!

If Cartier invented wristwatch, then what about Breguet?
@Judah.Rosenthal
@Judah.Rosenthal 2 жыл бұрын
@@felicityw30 Breguet invented many things. The tourbillon and the modern minute repeater chime, for instance. He was also one of the first real serial producers of watches but those were pocket watches. Cartier is credited with the first wristwatch, though there were kind of bangley, bracelet type women’s wrist watches before.

@@felicityw30 I used to think like that when I focused merely on calibers and technology. But if you look a bit further at the design and craftmanship and eye for details there will be a moment when you simply cannot resist Cartier. Maybe, the Chronoflex e.g. Tank Francaise is more for you. You can't tell from the outside but it houses a split chronograph, perpetual calendar and a very handy feature that lets you set the hour hand independently. The Tank and Santos models also have their history and I reckon are as iconic as a Speedmaster and always will retain value. Best regards.

Quartz movements are alright with any Tank, because there's no Seconds hand to give it away, and in an all stainless steel case it's far more tasteful than gold-dipped, gold-filled whatever cases. However; I did like their older more script style logo than the sterile, "modern" block letter version they use now. The SEIKO Tank is a wonderful alternative and also well executed.

Hi, Max: saying "Cartier is high quality" is a tautology. And you hit the nail: "When everyone is copying you, you don't have to try very hard to look good." Right, you just have to keep being yourself! Great examples of that are the wine red and blue versions shown at 3:50: no numbers, no indices, no second hand, no date. Only two hands and "Cartier", the seven letters that summarize what finesse and good taste are. Congratulations on your new watch and enjoy it a lot!

I got this watch, love the watch however found the faux leather strap quality is extremely poor. I only worn less than few times and the leather already started peeling off/scarped at the back of strap punched hole..

Hello, love the review. I would like your opinion between purchasing the large santos dumont or the tank large size for my husband. If you could, would you make a comparison between them. I keep going back and forth between them and sometimes I catch myself looking into the santos de Cartier in the medium size, what would you recommend? Ty in advance!

Lucky man! Here are my 2 cents. For reference I have a 6.7" wrist. I take photos a couple feet away from the mirror to see how watches look on me from others' vantage point. The last thing I want is to look like a 10 year old boy wearing his dad's watch. The Medium Santos de Cartier looked slightly too small but gun to my head I would still choose it over Large due to my aversion to date windows in general and most especially on dressy watches. As far as the Santos Dumont goes XL looked slightly too big lug to lug, almost like a small plate due to its combination of thinness and square shape. Unfortunately no other size was available, but it's probably safe to assume Large would have suited me better. Aesthetically I see the Santos de Cartier as a tweener between sports and dress due to its chunkiness. Which is why after a few years of wanting it to be my first Cartier my eyes have shifted towards the Santos Dumont and the Must Solarbeat which seem to be decided on being dress watches, rather than trying to be different things at the same time. If you haven't yet I recommend you check out reviews by Minute Mon and YoureTerrific.

Solar is likely better for the environment. And a movement that lasts 15 years is something to be treasured.

Hello Max! Nice video, I just tried the quartz version which looks the same and I felt like the large version was too big for my 6" wrist, what are your thoughts ? I precise this is with the steel bracelet. In my opinion, 36mm watches are the maximum for me. Thanks a lot

I like it a lot, but I wish they'd introduce a classic LC size of 23x30mm, the large one is a little too big and the small a little too small

I bought it today directly from Cartier Paris. Price will grow up due to collectors interest . The photovoltaic cellar inside is 15 years guaranteed .

Very nice review!. I'm having a hard time deciding between the large and small for my 6.5" wrist. I already have a solo large and would like something just a bit smaller and more similar to the original tank "normale" of 1917. My local e-boutique has both (large and small) solarbeats available and dunno what to do 😂😂😂

I would say the large, unless you wanna look very very vintage 😉. Going from modern sports watches to the large tank is already a significant downsize

@@WatchCrunchOfficial Thanks for your time and help Max, hopefully I'll pull the trigger really soon. It also helps that you have the same wrist size and I can imagine how it would look like. 🙂

I have 6.75inch wrists and also debating between the Small and Large. I've tried both, the small seems tiny in person but looks better when I look back at pics I took whilst wearing it 🤷🏻‍♂️ Watching this review I can't help but think the small would have looked better on his slim wrist but it all comes down to personal preference

@@mazrashid6549 Go in front of a mirror in the boutique and take photos from a couple feet away to see the proportions from other people's vantage point. I'm guessing large looks best on you.

I would take the plunge, it is a design icon. But what about that crown does it dig? I mean literally?

Solar Beat sounds like a name only Casio would use.😅 Wonder what kind of quartz movement is inside? Cartier website doesn’t mention.
