I agree that it is the most important teaching. God is in control! Thank you Pastor Grant.

Understanding that God is Sovereign is essential to understanding God. Understanding Biblical salvation is so necessary, too, for the believer.

I would say you’re right. First that the sovereignty of God is right up there. And trusting the promise of Romans 8:28 is enormously important. As long as you know what the GOOD is. Which is found in the next verse. And it’s not health - wealth and prosperity. Which some twist that to mean. It’s that He’ll transform you into the image of Christ. But one thing I’ve come to realize is that there is an absolute absence of understanding of the doctrine of what it looks like to be born again. And that’s the doctrine of progressive sanctification. What are the evidences? I talked to a dear lady who sat in a Baptist Church for 50 years and never heard anything about sanctification. I was recently at a men’s study. Focused on biblical manhood. And nobody understood that true believers practice holiness and are being transformed into the image of Christ in proportion to them engaging in God’s Word through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit. ( promised in 2 Cor 3:18 et al) Easy believism is deadly. I would say a low view of what constitutes discipleship or being born again is in the running for most important. “Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord,” Hebrews 12:14 LSB

Reconciliation (atonement in Christ) is man's greatest need. Always has been. God has always been sovereign, and always shall be...especially in salvation, and sent Salvation (Lu.2:30) so that men might believe in Him and be saved. It's called 'the love of the truth' (2Thes.2:10).

On a similar note, this Sunday thousands of Pastors across our nation will be preaching sermons and the vast majority of them will not mention the word hell let alone preach on the doctrine of hell. One of my favorite “The Prince of Preachers” Mr Spurgeon constantly warned the unconverted of such a place. American churches could use such a warning while Satan smiles with the silence behind the pulpit. Would love your opinion on this?

Heaven & hell are major themes in the New Testament that need to be mentioned often. Ever since people like Rick Warren & Joel Osteen reshaped American Evangelicalism most pastors want to be positive only, seminary students and young men at Bible college are taught not to use words like damnation, wrath or repentance. We have a generation of man pleasers, so I'm not saying we need constant sermons dedicated to the subject of hell, but it needs to be brought up on a regular basis. If your pastor never uses the word I would find another church.

The sovereignty of God number 1. Followed by 4 more big truths: the eons, specifically the 5 eons; the reconciliation of the universe; the two gospels (Gal. 2:7 where the preposition OF is vital); and the death of Jesus. Martin Zender, the big 5 truths. You Tube MZTV 1358.
