What do you think is the most important guitar in the history of metal? This is a late 70’s Gibson Flying V that James borrowed from an auditioning Metallica guitarist which he never gave back 😱 He performed with it in from the second-ever Metallica show into the early 80’s prior to recording Kill ‘Em All, where he would end up selling this guitar for cash to tour. The guitar is then was resold and... now I’m playing it for you ;)

That boa is fake. Feathers would have disintegrated decades ago, especially when handled! Also, you can't re-dye them, so how come it's 3 different colors in 3 different places? I have the same ostrich feathers. They rot just like food does. So that claim is bullshit in at least 2 different ways.

Eventually he found one in a shop in Copenhagen, Denmark.

If you to talk Flying V, you have to include one of the 3 Kings of the blues. Albert King was killing the Flying V when most of these guys were in diapers!
@SimpleManGuitars1973
@SimpleManGuitars1973 3 жыл бұрын
Actually he was killing it before they were even born. He was killing it before anybody had ever heard the name "Jimi Hendrix" or "Eric Clapton" as well. Honestly and sadly a lot of the reason so many people know Albert now is because of the people he massively influenced and he never really got his respect in his time from the masses. There's not a single blues guitarist since that hasn't straight up ripped him off and what are all known as "cliches" now were just straight up Albert King licks back in the day. Freddie never got his due in his life either but he's one of the absolute all time greats that also massively influenced the icons.

Look what Gilmour gave up last year. The guitars he used on Dark Side, Animals, Wish You Were Here, The Wall and the ones he toured each of those albums with. The proceeds from all of them went to charity. My guess is that the stuff in this auction probably didn't come from the artists themselves. They seem to have passed through numerous hands before landing in this auction and the proceeds will likely go to the previous owners, NOT charity.

I own a white ‘79 Gibson V and it’s an awesome guitar. The narrow neck (39mm at the nut) takes a bit of getting used to at first but once you’re accustomed to it mine plays like a dream. I have it set up as low as the bridge will go and there’s still zero fret-buzz, I’ve never had to touch the truss rod. Still has the Gibson T-top humbuckers and all the original pots and wiring harness which all work perfectly. It hasn’t lived in the case all of its life either and has travelled all around the planet many times so it has plenty of signs of being played hard. One of the few guitars that I can honestly say I’d never sell. I bought it around 20 years ago for a very reasonable price but in the time I’ve had it the prices on these mid 70’s to early 80’s Vs has gone crazy. Would love to pick up a similar age Explorer at some point too.

The guy at 8:06 is not quite right as during the 92 tour Hetfield got burned by pyrotechnics and guitarist John Marshall played his part for the following shows as Hetfield only did vocals. Anyway. Great video. You are very lucky to be allowed to play on it. Wearing that Hendrix garnment as well :-P I still remember it clearly as it was in Montreal and I was suppose to attend the show. Guns n Roses were there as well and because of the Hetfield event which ended the Metallica performance and Axl's decision to quit stage after 40 minutes (after having fans waiting 2 1/2 hour for their part) there was a riot in the streets started by angry fans. In the end I was happy not being there.
