This is 100% the opposite of what you said in another video where you compare the beginning of Stand By Me with a much simpler "When you are scared". Am I missing something?
@Jas-i7x Жыл бұрын
Songwriting doesn't really have set rules and guidelines. What works for one artist may not work for another. You just gotta experiment with your work until you find something that works best for you. And u can switch it up a bit if u wanted to👍

@@Jas-i7x Yeah, I know, I'm just wondering how giving completely opposite advices is supposed to help. I guess this is only supposed to help them monetize XD. I understand this necessity

The beginning of stand by me doesn’t use flowery language. It uses simple words to paint a specific scene that you can visualise. It shows instead of tells.

I disagree… some people write better when it’s NOT how they talk, maybe it’s how they wish they talked. Write what feels good to you! Although this does work if you’re just trying to write a hit

Well, it's probably good advice, but seasoned writers like John Lennon also used obscure ideas, like "I am the walrus" or "looking through a glass onion". Then, of course, those are not their most memorable lyrics.

But Taylor Swift, as an advanced and top songwriter, always keeps writing stuff like "Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I'll never see" and that works for me
@Jade_Angelica3 ай бұрын
I somewhat disagree. You're totally right about not using flowery ornamental words just for the sake of it. But if you write lyrics like you talk, it doesn't necessarily make it better lyrics. For example, in conversation, people might say something in a few simple words if they don't feel like explaining for whatever reason (like "I'm good", "I'm disappointed", "we broke up") Or somtimes people tend to ramble... To me, writing is about finding the perfect way (for me) to express feelings the way I couldn't with other people. I think a good song is sincere but also isn't afraid to be very detailed and use fancy words that I think explain something effectively. I also think things like "to the park, I walked" is ok in certain situations when you want to add emphasis in the right parts of the song, or adding a new or unexpected layer of meaning to the previous words (random example "to the park, I never returned"). I do think sometimes simple language can be so powerful and sincere. I think it's just about looking at the lyrics and determining whether you feel it's the best way you could have expressed something, based on the topic and the vibe of the song. Some songs have a more conversational tone, some are very storylike, some want to create a sense of awe, etc

😂 yeah don’t follow this advice.Nothing wrong with flowery speech or speaking like yoda. It’s all preference write from your heart or with context. The rest is for the birds.

This is a pretty basic rule for most songwriting. You want people to be caught up in your song. It’s harder to do that when they don’t understand what you’re trying to say.
