I started the year with the goal of finally finishing my fantasy hot mess. I've written this book twice now, and am currently working on the third draft, but I keep starting to write and then getting stopped, and I haven't been able to figure out why.
So I started writing a summary of everything that was happening in my book to see where the gaps were, and I discovered two common questions popped up:
Why?
Why now?
Why are my characters doing this? Why do they want to do it? And why are they doing it NOW, versus yesterday, or five years ago, or five years from now?
More often than not, my answer was: 'because plot!' Because I wanted the characters in a certain place so they could meet other characters and the story could get started. The problem with this approach, is it means things keep happening in my story that don't seem to have any logic or reason behind them.
So here I try to explain why these two questions are so important for writers, and how they relate to my book. It's a bit of a ramble!

Have any one ever tried a MasterClass. I learned a lot Neil Gaiman said put your characters in every situation and watch them come out of it that can tell you if the character needs to be killed off or a new character needed to make a debut in your book or you can use another character come in.

Nice video. I’m also an aspiring writer and I’ve tried to beat writers block. I generally just write but often find the story hard to continue to after a while, so I tried to learn to plot but I find that very hard since it’s a dull process. So now I’m trying to write out everything that I know about the story, just jump around and then just put it away and think about it some more before revising. I hope it helps. It certainly keeps me writing and that’s good. Otherwise I stop writing altogether. But I also believe that thinking about the story is valuable too. And certainly reading is also good. It’s just slow.
