How do you justify leaving Powder on Ecco rather than trying to stop and talk to her herself? To me as the youngest child, it seems like pure betrayal to me, and to Vi as a horrible older sister not willing to do her best for Powder. Yes even in some variant she could forget the disagreement with Silko and go with him for her sister's sake, even though it seems unrealistic because of their relationship, but maybe Jinx would be the element that would allow a truce to be made.
@vikkidonnАй бұрын
So again “as an older sister” I’ve seen ALOT of projection going on by people in this community. I see a lot of older siblings who made the wrong choices projecting that onto Vi. So when they say Vi didn’t abandon powder/jinx it seems to come more from their own feelsing about being confronted with poor choices they’ve made. Someone straight up told me that even though powder “felt” abandoned that doesn’t make it true and we need to be more understanding towards Vi. So it’s ok to abandon people if you feel like it because it’s what’s best for you in the moment. Even if I agree to that Vi still would be abandoning powder.. I see people not only dismissing or justifying Vis terrible choices but goin so far as to claim that because powder had trauma it’s her own fault that things happened to her. That her fragile mind has nothing to do with her older sister… who abandoned her after hitting her…. After their family died.. in a situation Abi was almost directly responsible for mind you…. It’s actually trip-ply toxic when you think about what she says versus what she does in the show. I as an older sister who has made bad choices and have dealt with mending things with my siblings knows just as well. I feel for Vi but I’m not going to condone her actions. She was a bad sister. Terrible. Not on purpose but she was and not acknowledging that and forcing the one hurt to pretend or be the bigger person is gaslighting , and abusive. Its almost disturbing the responses people have gotten for simply defending powders emotional reaction in that scene… I’ve seen people be told to keep their feelings out of it, that their experiences mean nothing to the show, they think too highly of themselves, they’d be terrible parents if they think Vi wasn’t the “best” big sister. It’s telling of the mental health issues in the real world which is scary and why people have been increasingly going no contact with family

I enjoyed this video and appreciate you going through the steps. I think your D.I.D story seems fairly solid. Obviously one of those personalities might be a detective or cop that could solve the crime. Maybe one of them is a killer, not for this plot, but has done murders in their past. They might be familiar with the way people are killed considering they have committed murders.

Vander didn't even provide safety! His children were never safe and had barely anything to go by, so I don't even see him as a leader at the time we see him. He was just going by on his old reputation and his big body. Silco on the other hand is the type of leader you need when you are oppressed or under attack and we have many examples like him in history. They end up usually really broken people themselves (like Silco was), but they are the type that can really change the bad situation.

As an oldest sibling, I've lashed out at my siblings similarly to how Vi did and I just hate it... I agree she wasn't abandoning Powder, she just needed some time to calm down.

We don’t get to control how our actions impact our friends and family. Not all toxic relationships or actions are intentional. She abandoned her sister objectively. Did she mean to is a different question and I agree she may not have meant it but she did it. That action had consequences and they weren’t good. At all. So while I understand her situation as another big sister I also know objectively she made a mistake in hitting her and then walking away. Hitting her wasn’t just an in the moment thing because Vi has anger issues and always used violence to express herself. Even when those around her told her to stop it. So that wasn’t just a understandable natural occurrence. Bad behavior is bad behavior. Calling it out and fixing it going forward is how you do it. Not pretend it didn’t happen or dismiss what your actions have caused.

Years ago I made a poor attempt to write a scenario for a graphic novel using the snowflake method. I put my writing in the fridge after that. But now after joining BookTube the writing bug is starting to move in me again. So I’ve ordered a couple of books about writing pulp fiction. I read ‘How To Write A Novel The Easy Way Using The Pulp Fiction Method’ by Jim Driver and really like the no-nonsense approach. Haven’t put in into practice yet though.

The covers look amazing and I love the foil. I've thought about trying something like this for my books to sell as special editions for Christmas markets. Its the only time of year I sell books at stalls and I think people would love to buy these. I also saw on Etsy you can send your books away to people to get them to do custom sprayed edges. I might think about trying that too.

There seems to be a problem all the way through this that step 1 is summarise your story in one sentence, but you don't have a story, you have a writing prompt. You want this method to take you from writing prompt to a story, I don't think that's what the method is trying to do. I think its trying to get you to think clearly about what's important in your story by stripping it back to its simplest essence, its atomic parts and adding complexity a little at a time. But you never had a story, you started with a writing prompt/setup/inciting incident.

I'm the eldest in both my mom and dads side, and no matter what I've always felt responsible for what they do and how they feel. On my mom's side i have a younger sister 6 years younger than me and I've tried taking care of her her whole life, even when she was just a baby,almost like a mother because my mother always goes out so I feel like where ever my sister goes, I go, and if she gets hurt, I have to help her, if anyone is pushing on her, I make sure it stops. And this isn't any cocomelon family or neighborhood, we live in the city and we'd have shootings and it's tough to trust people so if my sister wants to go outside, I would wait until my mom would get home, but since she came so late, she wouldn't be able to go outside at all. I would have to make sure she's fed, happy or entertained, and that she wouldn't be so worried about when mom would be back, and if school was going well bc well, kids can be mean and school is tough(¯―¯٥). And leaving to my dad's house is even worse because I'm always worried abt her and she wouldn't want me to leave. (;_:)yes me and her would be at eachothers throats for the last popsicle in the fridge but we'd get along after. I'm a teenager now and things for me have gotten worse but also better when it comes to mental health and family/life,but over all i still feel like this, even with my siblings on my dad's side, even though they have things easier, I still can't help but think about them and how they're doing. When i saw this show I am not kidding when I say I am obsessed with it and the characters, especially Vi ٩(๑>◡<๑)۶

As an older sister, I remember that my first time watching Arcane I learned two things instantly from the first scene. 1. They're two kids in the middle of a war/battle, 2. They're sisters, more spefictly, older and younger. So with this view of their environment and ther relationship. My first reaction to the show was "Oh, i definetly would've done the same that older sister is doing with the youngest" That is protect them from the ugly parts of the world while trying to guide them to a safer place. All of the sudden I remember those moments of my childhood while being an adult. Incredible how Arcane makes you conect with it from moment one

I know this is a late reply, but this just popped into my youtube feed. I've only watched the youtube channel for Story Grid, and while it has good ideas, I also couldn't "put it into practice" for similar reasons... the whole "obligatory scenes" bit got me curious, but they're not really listed in an obvious usable way, at least in the videos that I've watched on the topic so far, making it a grand promise, without application. Given how the rest of it has panned out, I'm likely to disagree with some of the scenes actually being obligatory, ultimately... so useful trope scenes perhaps. I've disagreed with some of their writing advice, and I've concluded that I just have different values when it comes to what makes good writing. I don't always agree with works that they consider "masterworks", so I'm not likely to take those as the golden standard when working on my own books. As for useful things... I've watched Abbie Emmons' youtube channel, which has useful insights. She focuses WAY more on character than I would, and we don't always see eye to eye on topics, but I find her advice actionable, and would create books that would likely be popular with a different segment of the population (that's not me.) At one time, I considered "Hello Future Me" a good youtube channel to watch, but I've grown apart from his viewpoints. (He's gotten a big head, at least that's how I see it.) I disagree with him more than I agree, recently, but his earlier discussions on worldbuilding were interesting for a time.

This is such a better version! The book left me feeling really dissatisfied too. I also think it also might have been more effective if the memory of Addie was erased with sunset every day rather than whenever someone loses sight of her - otherwise, what happens when someone goes to the loo? I know it’s ridiculous, but she spends whole days with people sometimes and they remember her until the next morning, but surely they need to go to the toilet at some point, or even just lose sight of her for a moment behind a pillar or something. It’s a hole in the logic.

I am a bit late, but there is a very interesting theory about Marcus. In one episode we can see Marcus' daughters drawing of her with him. In the same drawing we can see a female figure flying towards heaven. It's possibly that it was his wife. And if we look at his daughters age, I think it's definitely possible that his wife died not long before the show takes place, which could also explain his attitude and bring even more to the tragedy of his character.

I wrote my first novel with Snowflake. You really need to get the book. I made little progress before I got the book, then it all fell in to place, and now that is all I use. Also his book on writing scenes is fantastic. Also he focuses on keeping the three act structure throughout the process including the first step. Interesting video, thanks for sharing.

Interesting. But Story Grid is not a plotting method. They are aware of plot, of course, but they don't proscribe any method to do that, other than 'know these elements' and 'be sure to use them'. They are about understanding the underlying components of storytelling, not about how to implement them in plotting. And the subjects of plotting, or pantsing, or how they differ are not addressed in the books or any of the 200 podcasts. Is SG valuable for plotters? Of course. Understanding the underlying components of storytelling is necessary in order to do that well. Implementing it, and how to do that, is left to the writer.

The book does say that you should read the best examples of the genre you are interested in and make note of the conventions and obligatory scenes: see page 51. I agree with you, though, it would be nice to have them in the book. However, see my comment regarding the story grid website, which is packed with additional information that really supplements the book.

Oh my God this was amazing! I just finished the book last night after hearing so many good things about it & I felt completely let down by the ending. You're ending made so much more sense, while I was reading the book I didn't realize how frustrated I was with the timeline of going back and forth but the way that you've explained everything makes more sense in a linear time. I also was incredibly frustrated with how there were little mentions of Addie and Luc being in love for real but then all of a sudden at the end Addie is resentful at Luc & there's no character development on her end. Thank you so much for making this video it makes me feel like I didn't spend 16 hours listening to the audiobook for no reason.
