Thanks for another inspiring lesson Eddie. All I've ever been is a rhythm guitar player and harmony singer in a band. You just gave me a pat on the back and new incentive in my quest to play lead guitar, you didn't know how much I needed it so I wanted to tell you. Thanks again. My mom passed away on 2/25/2020 just as the 5-day guitar legends challenge was starting, I set my mind to doing the challenge everyday, but I haven't been able to pick up my guitar since then. Mom was the best rhythm player I ever knew and the rock in my world of sinking sand.

Like George, all I have ever been is a rhythm guitar player, and predominately harmony singer, in a band. But from 1965 through 2022 I have always had a "gig" in a functioning "play for money" band. That is from my junior year in high school, through college, graduate school, until now--a 75-year old guitar player who hasn't had to hang up his rock and roll funk kickin' shoes yet. Thanks for the lesson Eddie. My happy places in rhythm include Average White Band, Doobie Brothers (talk about rhythm--give Tom Johnston a listen), to Tommy Emannuel (oh lawd!), to Edgar Winter. Can I lay down a little lead once in a while when called upon to do so?. Yes. But...

Sorry for your loss. I new to Guitar 🎸 and ❤️ reading & listening 🎶 to positive comments. I hope to learn in a consistent manner from now on. I bought a Guitar about 9-10 yrs ago. #1 Favorite rhythm player-Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead. Jerry wasn't Jerry without Weir weaving very a unique rhythm in and out. He has said his approach to guitar came from listening to jazz pianists such as McCoy Tyner.

Thank you Eddie. Your online and GMM lessons are awesome. GMM is well worth it especially for intermediate guitar players to advance. Its been so helpful for guys like me who have been playing 20+ years balancing family and work life (55 y/o wannabe rockstar). More kids = decreased practice time :) My kids are older making it possible to play acoustic/electric gigs with many fantastic players. All your lessons are immediately applicable to live situations. What a confidence booster for playin all styles of music. I have learned that more than a few musicians i've met are very competitive and even dramatic (more ego than talent). I learned about you through GMM but didn't know you were the guitar dude for Eddie Money etc. You don't talk about yourself. Your easy going, good-guy style compliments your killer guitar skills. Good lesson for aspiring guitarists. (because who wants to play/tour with a killer guitarist who's not fun to be around). Enjoyed your interview with Jude Gold (No guitar is safe podcast). see you on the web. Respect, New fan Mike Walkovich

My Mentor for Live Sound Reinforce and I played guitar. He was older and in several bands. He said the same thing. He said a good rhythm player is more important than a soloist. I like mixing the rhythm and lead myself. That's one reason I went back to learn theory. Peace

Awesome Lesson! Unlocked a key to rhythm guitar I was unaware of. Playing bass I follow the kick mostly, but this makes sense, and really gives a whole other percussive beat to the music. Nile Rodgers and Chic are my happy place in rhythm. Amazing player.

I suppose my favourite rhymth guitarist would be Adam Jones from Tool. Yeah he does a lot of lead, melodic stuff, but the majority of his work is carefully timed rhythms that plays to the rest of the band really well.

I was looking for some stuff like this, rhythm guitar tutorial o this kind. I'm a saxophone player and I work with the piano too, but recently I'm getting close to electric guitar and what I like more about this instrument is the rhythm guitar technique and I've found this video very interesting at least to get started with this stuff.

OMG !! thankyou so much Eddie. I have never heard rhythm guitar playing explained that way. To act as though your picking hand is a drummer! Of course! Makes sense. And now I can honestly see how exciting and fullfilling playing rhythm can be. As for rhythm guitarists I like off the top of my head, James Hetfield and Paul Stanley, but lots of others too. Many blessings Eddie and thanks again !

Thanks, Eddie. I began my musical “career” as a drummer in rock band (circa 1966), took up guitar for folk music around the same time, but got more serious about guitar after the band broke up. I was never very interested in doing lead, because without the rhythm guitar, the song was empty. Now I teach with the Guitar for Vets program. Students often ask how do I strum for xyz song. I have been struggling to explain that “you have to feel it, like a drummer.” This video reinforces that, and has given me another way to explain it to students.

That was so cool, especially the funky guitar face ;-) I have literally just started on my 56 birthday 2 months ago and GMM is the best platform I have come across - especially love the fact that 99.9% of your stuff is current (2020) a lot of the other guitar "channels" produced some cool videos 5 or 6 years ago and haven't done anything since. I grew up in the era of guitars and drums, AC/DC, Status Quo, Led Zeppelin are still my go to for a good time. I have said it before and I will continue saying it Malcolm Young RIP for my money is the most underrated rock guitarist going that bloke is the engine room of perhaps the greatest rock n roll band the world has ever seen

I liked this lesson, thank you. Hope to get me open up my fireplaceshreddings... In my opinion rythm guitarist are essential because what sense has a lead guitarist with no rhythm, right? That's why for my favorite Guitarist-Singer-Songwriter I'd like to mention Robb Flinn from Machine Head, because he's actually like a one man band when he's playing alone. He plays rhythm with lead while singing and iit doesn't matter if slow or heavy... he's just switching in between. This ability I'm looking up to.
