I always wondered if he recognized him at Axis Chemicals. I just assumed that's why he dropped him into the chemicals. in a strange way, Bruce Wayne, the billionaire playboy/ generous philanthropist is for the world to see. Batman is who he really is at heart. when Batman showed up taking away Joker's poisonous ballons and fighting his men, that night was all about vengeance, not being the protector of Gotham. I don't care what anyone says. Michael Keaton is the best Batman. this film is a masterpiece.

During the Ace Chemicals scene Batman only knows that Jack Napier is Carl Grissom’s right hand man. He drops him simply because he lost his grip. If his intention was to kill him he wouldn’t have tried to grab for him in the first place. Another intriguing thing is The Joker knew who Batman was the whole time. In their final confrontation on the cathedral rooftop Batman says “You killed my parents I made you, you made me first” and Joker says “What? …I was a kid when I killed your parents”meaning that He knew Batman was Bruce Wayne.

@@BuzbyGaming it could be seen that way but I always assumed that was just Joker stalling for time; think of how many people hes killed over the years, you think hes gonna remember some family even one as wealthy as the Waynes? or that their son survived? earlier in the film hes shown on two occasions to not even really know who bruce is at all; when Bob brings him up as Vickis date (some guy named Wayne) and when they come into contact at Vickis apartment (Bruce... Wayne nes pas??)

That is what I loved about Tim Burton, his version was different enough but you can clearly see the parallels if you’re a fan of the character and the world. Personally I seen Grisons as more of a Carmine Falcone but I can see Thorn in his as well. Joe Chill was a two bit nobody mixing his character into the joker did him nothing but a favor imo.

I don't know if this scene telegraphs that Bruce Wayne has decided to *kill* Joker/Jack Napier. At the end of the film, he holds onto the flailing Joker's arm for more than just a passing second. His initial or usual instinct would be to pull him up per his "no kill" rule (In Nolan's Batman, Joker literally is left (alive) flailing from a building). In Burton's ending, I'd say Bruce Wayne/Batman truly does ponder for a moment or two whether he should save him or not. Regardless, it's a great scene because its so unique in the whole "Batman universe" because it involves Bruce--not as Batman--actually face-to-face quarreling with the bad guys. The public distinction between Bruce & Batman is *usually* black & white. The closest other episode I could think of would also be from Nolan's TDK at the cocktail party for Harvey Dent. However, Bruce intentionally avoids confronting Joker--albeit acting out of (public) character for Bruce when disarms one of the henchmen with a quick move of his hands.

Later at the cathedral when Batman says “You killed my parents” the joker said “I was a kid when I killed your parents” so The Joker likely knew he was Batman for sometime before hand or realize it then and there at the Cathedral rooftop. @@ThePeachtree69 and that’s your opinion. Just like the video it’s an opinion but quick question… if the movie sucked and the scene sucked… why did you click on the video? Why leave a comment? Is it for the attention? Does people disagreeing or arguing with you get your rocks off? Because factually you’re wrong. Every Batman actor and movie since has been compared to Batman 89. The entire reason Batman even wears black or is in Armor in modern movies is because of 89. Not just Batman is compared, The Joker, Penguin as well as Catwoman. 89 and returns are the benchmark for which all modern Batman movies and measured. Basically I guess what I’m telling you is Robert Pattinson, which I am assuming is your favorite is nothing more than a pale imitation. Everything movie wise was ripped from Tim Burtons Batman movies. My Opinion is try to develop better taste because the only other Batman that is close is Ben Affleck and the only reason that is…is because he’s the closest to comic book accurate. The subtle nuances of the Batman 89' is lost on a lot of people, comic book fans especially at the time because everything wasn't explained to them like it was in the comics. Later history repeats itself with The Dark Knight trilogy where the exposition is telling you everything and fans are bias because the subtle nuances were completely lost when you compare Batman 1989 to The Dark Knight.

Well the best thing to do is Separate the movie versions and the comic versions, they play off each other but as much as every run of the character is alike, they all have awesome difference's. That is why I TRY to give movie vs comics a chance because you never know how it might work in favor of the overall character...BUT... But like The newer version of the crow, it strays too far IMO... it is to the detriment of the character. I back away.

There are also more than one Batman narrative in the comics, too. The Batman "origin story" (I've grown to hate the term) was rehashed multiple times in the comics. Didn't get stale, especially as new characters were added . . . but added in a way that they changed anything fundamental. Batman existed long before Carmine Falcone appeared, for example. The whole "Dark Knight" comic series, of course, is just one of many series in the overall franchise. I can tell you realize--like me--that 1989 Batman is solely underappreciated.

Honestly though I am a fan of the comics Napier killing the Wayne’s and creating Batman then Batman accidentally dropped Napier and created the Joker. It was poetic for them to have created each other then be destined to destroy each other. However I always prefer The Joker to not have a “Real Name” and just be that opposite force to Batman.

Museum scene was pretty mid too. I know people disliked the town hall scene but creativity of it was great. I know people also wondered how police reacted to gun shots so quickly during the Wayne mugging. Jack could have pretty easily dropped a young Bruce but was talked out of it by a Bob like figure.
