Dude this video just made my day. To go from a breakage without any parts available to 3rd place? Holy cow. I’ve never been interested in RC racing, just a basher. But this vid makes me wanna race. This was my first big race apart from the first MSM Spec Slash 2.0 race at Indy awhile back, where I drove the yellow and blue truck you can see at the bottom left at 2:08 . Since then it has received an LCG conversion and a few CNC aluminum parts by Cobra Racing, and can now apparently ride with the big guys in their fancy Teknos and not get completely obliterated, which is pretty crazy to me. I finished 3rd in the C main after some really close and fun battles, but I’m not complaining. That means that bashing-designed Traxxas can compete with at least 7 actual dedicated race trucks. I was about 2-3 laps off the pace of the fastest guys in 4WD SC, so i still have some work to do to get it all the way up there! That gas truck AMain was so fun to watch but I couldn’t imagine driving in it, that had to be so dang hard. If you’re wondering how Mark got into the A when he qualified last, I’m pretty sure they combined the mains because there were 10 trucks that started the A. My 4wd Slash responded so well to some rough guesswork for tuning and upgrades that I didn’t even have to change the setup once I set it, without even driving. Based on this, it seems like a really good beginner/budget truck to run in novice or run what you brung, or even open 4wd SC like I did if your scene isn’t super competitive. Do get the LCG version or convert it if you have an HCG, mine lapped pretty slow with the HCG. GTR shocks are mandatory, or at least something that isn’t those crappy GTM ones, in the only race I ran them in, a different shock cap on a different shock popped of on EVERY HEAT I was in. Just don’t even bother, they’re trash. I run 3S on stock Traxxas VXL stuff,but have plans for a race spec 4S system. If your setup doesn’t work, there’s a great forum thread by Razor RC detailing everything you need to know about tuning that truck, just look up Slash 4x4 setup sheet or something.

Dude I love this. So badass that you all came together to make that c block! That's my favorite thing about this hobby is just exactly things like that. Making due in situations when needed. That was one of my favorite races ever, and my truck only lasted a little over 20 minutes of the hour long final before I melted down the only spur gear I had (too greedy with the slipper..😢). Was great running with ya for fornthe few minutes we shared sections of the track before that happened though! I'm gonna pretend me showing up to talk to ya inspired you to go fabbing up a new C block with Team MSM. 😂 We definitely need to race with each other again in 2wd Gas Truck!

I use to race it before the 3.3 version came out, lots of mods for racing if I remember right on the old traxxas forum to get the run time and move the weight forward for better steering

Similar thing happened to me thing happened to me the race I had the .4 in. I changed motors between quals, in the dark. Off set the motor just a hair, smoked the pinion in the first turn lol!! Still had so much fun!!

Put a 2.5r with a 3.3 crank and ceramic bearings in it. It will take some bottom end out, and get longer run time.

Put a 2.5 traxxas engine in the Jato. So you can get better fuel economy . You won't notice any speed difference on a track. Maybe even calmer in the out of the corner

I was pitting every 10 minutes, after the race Brent told me I was over 1/2 full every time I came in. I could have done a 20 minute tank. I don’t think I even went 1/2 throttle on the strait traction was so limited, I never went over 1/4 throttle on the rest of the track. I was just sitting back at a 85% pace.

And with no flame outs, that fuel tubbing you added was apparently a must. I don’t remember anyone flaming out, I did shut mine off for the repair, but I don’t remember an actual flameout from anyone. That’s impressive in itself.

Guessing the battery spot didnt come with any foam to keep it off the aluminum

It is actually supposed to be mounted in the back behind the transmission. I put the battery in an option spot.
