It's rare to find a truly innovative game that truly distinguishes itself in a genre, but Against the Storm absolutely deserves that recognition. A dark fantasy city-builder... roguelite?! Now that's something special. Found settlements, explore a hostile forest, and gather vital resources for the Smoldering City in this highly replayable city-builder!

This game is fantastic. Been in the early release for a bit over a year now, and the devs have been awesome. They listen, respond, update often, and even implement and keep track of which ideas came from the community. Can't recommend it enough!!

I would love to see a series on this as well. I love the replayability; that's one thing that is somewhat missing imho from some otherwise fun city-builders. Also this game is currently on sale for a slight discount. I know what I'm playing after work. :) thanks for showing it off!

Idk if a series is the way to go with a game like this, but I wouldnt mind it being part of the weekly rotation. If a particular game is taking a long time to record and recording this game for an hour and a half is a better alternative I would love to see it return. Definitely not as short to record as plague inc or rebel inc but seems to more reliable than waiting for good scenarios to be published.

you take a pretty big resolve penalty in the storm for each level of hostility, and you can decrease hostility pretty easily by firing your woodcutters (3 woodcutters is about 1 lvl of hostility) or sacrificing wood/coal in the hearth, just during the storm. Would have prevented those harpies from leaving. Great video, I really like this game and I'm excited for the series

There's a couple city-games I'm excited for coming out in the next year (e.g. Gord, Laysara), but they didn't make it for 2022 so AtS is easily GOTY for me. Every single game feels like a new puzzle, and there's a weird air of 'calm' while you play while also constantly being in a state of panic about having to make progress and not let your wee villagers die. The depth and skill cap are crazy, but the roguelike elements w/ a difficulty modifier means literally anyone that is interested can find a mode they will enjoy. What a gem! I"m only sad that the runs are a little too long, and won't get the kind of YT/streamer attention they deserve.

I saw someone else comment this, but I would love a series of this where you did a settlement a video from new to completion. I'd like to see more of the maps and creatures, and it sounds like there will be enough variation to stay novel. Although you city-builders/-management playthroughs are my personal favorites, so I would watch it all even without the rougelit element.

This would be really good on the channel. Especially it being episodic. You can play this when you want and get a little farther in the game. The rng of the maps makes it interesting and different everytime you play. You are good at it and this seems like the kind of game you would enjoy playing as well. Also, Dam those Beavers!

I just am enthralled by how you explain new games to us. You explain it with such clarity and keep it engaging. Game developers should consider you for narrating tutorials. Glad to have you back for now. Keep at it and take your breaks as you see fit, a slow steady flame is preferable over a fast burner.

Generally speaking, you can start every game with a grid path + 3 shelters+ 3 woodcutters (1 of which will be understaffed due to 1 villager being in the heart) and get to 5 woodcutters or 4 WC+ 1 food maker very fast. No need to pick building blueprints until you unlock the first few order picks or even the entire first row. After that you can pick orders based on buildings you have available not vise-versa. At this point you will have 1k+ wood, trade post and you will be able to start getting 40 amber each trader visit + perks from the trader (or even more building blueprints) which makes the rest of the run easier. Haven't tested it on higher difficulties tho, but it is a great start for lower ones.

Some tips you might have figured out are. 1 If only one species is thinking of leaving then you can give them lighter treatment in the resolve panel for +5 for that one and -5 for the others, you can juggle to prevent deserters. 2 during storm you can take off woodcutters to lower threat level that -4 per can make or brake some people, plus avoiding the nastier storm effects. 3 different species tending the main hearth give good perks and should be changed, a beaver is 25% fuel efficacy, human is -20% impatience increase rate, lizards +1 resolve to all, harpy +5 carry capacity. 4 you can upgrade the land around hearths for bonuses lowest one is 8 people and 4 effects for 2 global resolve. If you want to try the higher difficulties then you need to juggle cutters and treatment, also opining small glades hurts more than helps in viceroy mode most times. the ""keep goods" order is the option to keep the resources instead of sending them to the citadel. Starving is a resolve - so it can be mitigated. sacrificing in the hearth is good to lower hostility levels and other effects (it was changed from giving resolve, you could burn everything and win through resolve that way). I completed the game like 6 months to a year ago, right before harpys came out so if you have a question just ask

Hi! There were actually 2 ways you could have saved your harpy, you can sacrifice fuel in the hearth at an increased rate to keep resolve up. Also you can give a single race preferential treatment, +5 Resolve, -5 for everyone else(click the circle next to the needs tab)
