It's funny seeing Pravus being surprised at the ascension mechanic, saying it's unique and never seen before when it's been a standard in clicker games for a while. It's meant to help you get further and further into a game by giving you permanent buffs. The gold standard of clicker games, Cookie Clicker, did it very well in my opinion. But hey can't blame him for not knowing that since he's not played a lot of clickers

Fun Fact: Halberds that were used by the town guard were actually a great tool for firefighting, so it does make a little sense that the military units would be the ones that would go after the fire. Containing the fire as much as possible was critical, so using the spike bit to push open the roof and have the heat go upward in the air instead of at other houses. Also, some general hacking at walls and finding supports to use the hook to tear down either the remainder of the house or the surrounding houses if necessary. I actually found that out recently by another KZbinr that mainly talks about medieval weaponry....at least, from what little I saw. Anyway, thanks for the video Pravus, always good seeing you. I actually got that Solium Infernum Demo thanks to you. Hope you're well.

It was basically the multi-tool for guards during the middle ages, it was a spear, stick and axe in one tool that was recognizable and stood out!
@Kuhmuhnistische_Partei

I mean, when we talk about medieval age and towns, a lot of cities didn't have fully paid guards, but rather militias made up by proper citizens (which were already like upper middle class, so don't think your typical fantasy militias made up of thugs). Those citizens usually had certain duties to own certain types of armor and weapons depending on their wealth. The militia units would often be organized based on neighborhoods or based on profession and would be deployed outside of war situations for stuff like guard duties. (Although those weren't as omnipresent as often depicted in fantasy except maybe in very big cities like London or Paris; in many German cities you wouldn't even have gate guards except during special occassions like big events which lead to more people coming into the city) Although tower watchmen (often old or physically disabled people) were usually a paid profession. These same militia units would then in case of fire also act as the firefighters and the watchmen actually watched both the outside for signs of danger and the inside for signs of fire and other problems. Although halberds weren't always used by guards, at least not in the HRE. Most of the burghers on duty had spears (or other polearms that aren't halberds), crossbows or in later times handcannons and probably a sidearm like a big knife or a sword. Like we know, because there are literally inspection lists. One of those lists for a city even calls someone "Simon with the halberd" because he was one of two people in the entire city who even had one. If you're interested, there is a really cool depiction of a late medieval marching militia in the context of the Siege of Neuss in 1474-1475, the depiction itself was made before 1480. Just google "Hausbuch Wolfegg Heerzug" or "Housebook of Wolfegg Castle". There should be a depiction that goes over 3 pages of marching men with wagons and another page at the right with mostly dudes on horses.

Clickers have been way more than just "playing the game so you don't have to play the game" pretty much since their inception for the vast majority of the good ones. I have a weird philosophy on why I like clicker games. Is that when you boil down a game to the literally most basic level, it is click the button receive gratification. and clicker games are the epitome of that. Yes games are much more complicated in that they involve critical thinking skills and timing, but my point is that playing any video game is just a Skinner Box. you have achieved nothing beyond the dopamine levels involved in whatever form you desire, be that accomplishing some rare/difficult/lengthy task and the associated bragging rights if applicable or just the simple knowledge or contentment of completion.

If - and only if - you boil a game to the most basic level are most games effectively skinner boxes. There's unquestionably a very real value to introducing complexities to that formula, so I think it's unfair to outright say all games are basically skinner boxes, and I also think it's the case that some games genuinely don't boil down to just a skinner box even in the extreme. That said, I do agree with you on average, and appreciate clicker games for similar reasons.

what i get from this video that its "unique" by combining standard rogue like game elements with standard clicker game mechanics. so all it takes is for you to discover theat there is more to the genre then the surface level you did look at so far. Im not saying the game isnt actually somewhat interesting looking but its also not as unique as described early on. something something about not spending enough time looking in to something and defining the whole genre about the surface level elements everyone knows about and then beign surprised that there is actually more to it then that.

Nice game! I beat Tower level 20 on my second try, and then I got tired of playing. It's easy when you have heroes that can stun the events; 5 seconds of stun does the job. I'm not a fan of this kind of game, but this one requires more than just clicking and is fun to play. Population doesn't help with anything, but you need to let a lot die so you can buy the damage trait. You receive 1 point every 5 levels of the Tower. I don't think traits are that useful; on my second run, I already reached that far in the Tower, and I only had 3 traits.

That would be because this isn't a clicker game. This is an incremental game. The type of game where there is progress beyond just numbers growing bigger. @rendomstranger8698
@rendomstranger8698 Жыл бұрын
Good luck using that in this game. At 300 click heat you already start increasing the risk of a crises. Not that you need an auto-clicker once you got enough stun duration. Just go for oligarchy, add a few seconds of stun and anything less than 3 or 4 crises means that you can just sit back and let the game stunlock any crises. Eventually reaching the point where a plague or fire allows you to focus on things like farming cash while you're farming deaths or reducing your housing to a point where it doesn't cause issues.

The ethos of what I would call incremental games (rather than clicker games, which is misleading) has apparently shifted greatly since you last looked into them properly. There is a great deal of disdain in the community for games that require a lot of clicking. These have rather fallen out of fashion, and are generally considered to be of poor quality, with a few exceptions (cookie clicker still remaining reasonably popular, though I suspect mostly out of nostalgia). Games now are expected to provide interesting mechanics to interact with, the majority of clicks being spent in menus engaging with these mechanics. Many games have no on-click production at all. And the ones that do typically don't require you to click for production beyond the first few minutes of play. The gold standard I would say is something like antimatter dimensions, or for an entirely different type of game Increlution. And I'm a fan of Progress Knight personally. None of these games have click production at all.

the base of a clicker/idle/incremental game is not to be played, but on the other hand it is incredibly easy to innovate, think of every other game you played as an idle game, the roguelikes where you dodge stuff and hit enemies until they die, isn't that an overcomplicated clicker game, if you think about it in a broader view? i'm not saying that's, in fact, a clicker game, i'm sharing this perspective, if you took everything out of that game except that you hit enemies until they die, you have the base of an incremental game now, which has nothing to do with what the full game would be, it's odd, but innovating the simple premise makes it much, much more enjoyable. this should be a factor that developers (of incremental games or not, whatever, make any game you desire) should take into note, sounds lame? put something cool into it.
