If the problem is static strength on deadlifts and squats then grab the thorny nettle and grind - thors incredible on the statics as is mich - wsm gives tom a little advantage as its not the heavyist comp but if tom wants to place at the arnolds rogue and shaw classic he needs the baseline strength to improve quite alot - good luck great to see them not just doing what theyve always done and seeking ways to get better - everyone wishs the stoltmans success and im no different two great fellas

Setting your pelvis into an anterior pelvic tilt at the start probably doesn't do you any favours. The butt wink at the bottom probably stems from that. A more neutral start, bracing ribs down could help. Ending my random guy tips here 😅

I thought I read that much of the benefit of training deadlift and overhead is controlling the down stroke rather than dropping the bar??
@auto_revolt3 ай бұрын
It depends on the intention; for muscle growth you focus on the eccentric, for strength and reducing muscle damage it's about applying force, I believe
@mrgaudy19543 ай бұрын
It’s always puzzled me that a lot of strongmen seem to neglect squatting. I understand that deadlifting takes precedence as it’s a common event but surely it’d be more fruitful long-term to train both squat and deadlift more or less equally?
@Joe-wt6eh3 ай бұрын
Squats are almost never tested. Why would you do 50 50
@mrgaudy19543 ай бұрын
@@Joe-wt6eh Squats are one of the most functional exercises going and strongmen who excelled in static events (Eddie Hall, prime Thor, Big Z, JF Caron to name a few) were all monster squatters and all clearly invested a lot of training into it, regardless of how frequently the actual event comes up. In more recent times Mitchell Hooper also seems to train squats regularly and his progress has been astounding. If he sees value in regularly squatting there must be a benefit.
@Joe-wt6eh3 ай бұрын
@mrgaudy1954 of course there's value in it.. but to invest an equal amount as deadlift is absolutely absurd. I hope you don't ever program athletes lol
@mrgaudy19543 ай бұрын
@@Joe-wt6eh i think the fact that I phrased my initial comment as a question indicates that I’m not looking to programme for anybody anytime soon
@Joe-wt6eh3 ай бұрын
@@mrgaudy1954 yeah just joking. Back squats are a good accessory for the deadlift but you'll typically see variations used in strongman training blocks such as front squats, SSBs, split squats etc because they cant be loaded as heavy but still offer specifically beneficial properties. If you trained back squats as a strength driver you would be taking up too much of your recovery resources for a non sport specific movement
