Awesome job brother! So I'm one of those guys that was set in my ways, thinking that my restoration jobs were the best, but always wet sanding. I've been in business for like 6 years but I've been doing this for 17 years, so I have the experience and I also know when I see something great. So when someone or something makes me want to change the way I do my work , it has to be really special. Like you say, consistency is the key and that's all I see from your work. So thank you for educating me with your method, I have everything to do it your way and the first one should be tomorrow 😁 can't wait brotha!! Keep the headlight porn coming my friend....

You are perfect as usual) it’s a definitely good feeling, that I watched all your videos and have build up my skills on your experience. I have done more than 20 lights already using that method and I am really close to your result. I still can’t buy meguiers coating and I use 3m wipes, but I apply them after polishing stage and the result is pretty close. Thank you for the knowledge you spread with your videos. P.S. for the guys who comment their results using different staff: please try 3M discs that author is using. Don’t waste your time&money. These discs are the 60% of success really.

Hi, watched the video and glad you gave it a 4.25 stars. That being said, what would be your thought on doing your process with the polishing and coating with Cerakote instead of Meg’s headlight coating? Reason for asking is that in Canada, Meg’s coating is pretty expensive and can’t buy in bulk as far as I know.

@goldenbear31 at 4.2 stars is only for a curved grade.. the curve being have a restoration kits.. far as a professional setting or as far as things you could do better it will rank very very low... The coating is trash once you take it out of that tide pool ceramic does not belong on a headlight...

Thank you Sir for making these video's and sharing your vast knowledge on this subject. Going with your system and tools/consumables 100 %. Can you answer a couple of questions I have please, As far as the 12 volt two speed AcDelco polisher.. , how many (medium) headlights will the two supplied battery's do? (2) 2.0 Ah (stock). I know I need to buy more. An other question was if you wash your 3m orange pads at night and start over in the morning with a clean pad? Thank you for your time and sharing your training videos , 👍💯.
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro Жыл бұрын
Okay let me answer your second question first as far as a 3M orange pans never washed them out... I guess you could but it'll just messed them up in the long run I never really even have washed mine out they resurfaced themselves as you see in some of my videos some are thick those are the newer ones and then I'll have these videos I'm probably using the same one or three or four or five videos but probably five or six cars between each video..lol The resurfaced themselves therefore no need to wash or the surface is affected when using these... They're very dense... As far as the ACDelco batteries it comes with two batteries and two medium size headlights I can probably get out of one battery... So with four you should most definitely be able to do four cars... Note some vehicles need more polishing than others and also depends on your polishing skill.. in the beginning it took me a lot more power to get the effect that I get now which comes a lot easier....

@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro Жыл бұрын
Never if possible. It's my very last resort.. typically I have them on backup or standby all the time just in case there's some weird occurrence where there's no way to you spray. Which never really happened it's a very rare done it once or twice. Not in the business of using inferior methods or products on customers vehicles. It is a 3M product in Superior to all other wips but it is still a wipe which is inferior to damn near any spray because the delivery method is inferior and adulterated.. but basically the only times I've ever used it is when it's extreme wind and not safe or practical to spray but most of the times I can wait for pockets of non-wind to get it on there.. but when it's just not happening so really strong halfway to a hurricane wind which is maybe two or three days out of the year I'll use it...

Why was the wet sanding not as effective assuming you are constantly spraying water? Just Time? It seems sanding over dry dust could generate more heat and it is hard to tell when you are done removing the clear coat
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro Жыл бұрын
It's very difficult to tell when you ever moved enough clear coat when you're sanding which is one of the number one problems.. if you view a person who wet sands work it's very inconsistent and sometimes you can see yellowing and fogging because they have not removed enough of the surface material and clear coat. Also because the LACK of heat, water is a lubricant insulating the heat as well as insulating the ability of removal it dampens the removal process 100 fold.. also the heat, heat is essential part of headlight restoration for clarity this is the reason if you have a foggy area of this light and you put a torch to it or a lighter it would turn clear before burning beginning to liquefy . But not only that of course time is 10 times slower and with certain vehicles it just won't work correctly which is another reason why you see inconsistency and wet Sanders work my consistency level is 99.99% and it's not 100% just because I believe there's a lot of room for pre-existing conditions (a light with permanent damage or something like that) is gross looking when a customer comes out and sees you wet sanding with stuff all over the place dripping on the ground it's kind of a turn-off... Also if you're not careful certain amounts of that drip can have adverse effects on the clear coat of the paint depending on what you're using depending on how long you let it sit...(especially if it rains after you're done/residue and stuff dripping down the bumper when you're not even there)... Pretty much it's ugly..lol The dust is not an issue because of the dissipates through the air and gravity AKA drops or floats away like dust... Is it extremely remedial and complete process when you wet sand only as you see in my method there is inclusion of wet sanding as wet sanding is a method of fine sanding only to be used in textbook sanding for finish product stages NOT BEGINNING.. you can literally Google that and it'll tell you what sanding is only supposed to be used at the end of a process of sanding... Some people will take an hour for a headlight and speed up their reels and tell you that they're done it in 25 minutes even that's too long I'm completely done with the line in 15 minutes or less.. what you see on the video as a slow down method and it's just a little bit more than that because I have to add inserts and slow down cuz the camera is there to exhibit what I'm doing... As you probably already are curious you see that my in product is far beyond any wet sander... That's not just because of my skill set that's because the method is a lot better and have a much higher level...

A lot of people don't know much about Headlights..lol But yes the alcohol evaporates and dries out the headlight too much stripping the natural oils... Especially don't use after you do the polishing stage because at that stage you're reintroducing a positive residue deposit and leave behind... Which helps benefit the health of the headlight and the clarity of the finished product check this out... kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnSXi3WrZZd9kMk

I'm curious if you do or do not recommend spraymax's 2k headlight clear. I know you mentioned numerous times that the regular 2k clear isn't for headlights, but apparently this headlight formula is...?
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro Жыл бұрын
It will be it would be better to use.. the main difference is it has a little bit more UV repellent in it.. but the formula is basically the same.. the other main problem is that it's too hard as you see still has the red cap on the top that means there's hardeners inside of it just like the regular 2K clear spray max...There's defects and side effects later down the road.. a lot of spider cracking and defects from overheating and pressure issues (expansion) although it's just for headlight restoration all of those two k's are boo boo 💩 I wouldn't recommend it... If someone was set on using the 2K clear most definitely use one that is for vehicle paint what you should never do but it's the least troublesome one out of all of them...(no hardener)

Quite the opposite... These things are like petrified oil sponges that have been stripped of oil on the surface metaphorically.. they benefit and clarity and function and health by leaving it in... Stripping it again with just defeat the purpose and add to headlight this function in many ways...(it's actually the opposite if this was clear coating a vehicle or something to do with the pain or clear coat of a vehicle would be different people often misunderstand and mash them together with their 100% different) Check this video out... kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnSXi3WrZZd9kMk

In my opinion they're all way to abrasive everything I use is p-scale... They are far superior and function and just make up.. just the fact of not using them will make your finished product inferior.. This is something very close to what the author does with megiars. Frankly, this is something that forms not a thick, but a very thin layer that penetrates the plastic and strengthens its surface without changing the optical properties.

@@sorkin.michael Does the meguires formula last as long as the genuine OEM finish that comes from the factory?

Good question.. I'll look into it.. But there's no set to denomination of time that the OEM factory lasts many cars are different I even do some 2019s now.. all depends on the owner of the vehicle and how people take care of their headlights and how they drive....

You dont need to bother cleaning the headlight with more cleaner after polishing?
@theheadlightrestorationpro

No sir it's beneficial.... It's almost like metaphorically if you put on lotion after a hot shower when your pores are open and then you gave yourself an alcohol rub down... You'd be dehydrating and removing everything you just put on which would dry out your skin especially underneath the clothes you put on.... Same thing with the headlights... The hell that's being degraded and sanded on strip off a lot of essential oils that are natural in polycarbonate which the headlight is made out of or in any plastic for that matter... And also AIDS and clarity, this is why the age-old trick and lie of rubbing WD-40, citrus, and others on headlights will make them look good for short period of time (oil base)... Something since makes things more clear as well, function better in transparency... Check out this video this will explain everything you need to know about the situation more in depth... Thank you for watching plenty more up lot to learn about headlight restoration to see how to get them to this top-notch level that is virtually unmatched... kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnSXi3WrZZd9kMk

Many ways to promote... If you don't get any jobs you got to work harder.... But first and foremost you have to build your base... A name, designs, a portfolio, and first and foremostest got to build your skills up... We don't have all these in the order there's no real way to promote yourself cuz people are just going to look at you like you're not serious....

I need more practice with your method. Cant seem to get the drill to stop bouncing around. Also get small amounts of build up of yellow crap that is harder to sand off. Almost like the plastic is melting and clumping together. Hard to describe. Using same ryobi cordless drill
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro Жыл бұрын
I'm going to answer this in a couple of steps... Yes do plenty of practice.. The drills bouncing around because you have to control it.. gotta use two hand to hold it firm... Also have to hold it flush it's more about finesse than strength when you're moving... Hopefully you're using the 3M sanding discs.. p500, p800 etc etc.. The yellow stuff that comes off on the light is either the buildup from the light surface but more than likely it is part of the sandpaper disc sticking to the light.. which means one or two things you're going to fast with your drill too many RPMs... Or you're using the sanding disc for too long... Once you get more acquainted with them you'll know when to change them and how fast you can go with them not smearing that stuff on there..also you will learn the spot that it does that on primarily is more prone to do it on certain spots top of the light the curves etc... And just a tip when you start getting that stuff, mostly like I said it's time to change the pad but when you change the pad go over those spots first and get that stuff off and it comes right off with a fresh pad....

@@theheadlightrestorationpro thanks for the detailed response mate. I found it hard to locate 3m discs here in Australia so I bought a selection of discs from an Aussie supplier. Possibly not as good quality as yours. I also don't have the double stacker that you use. I saw in amazon that there are p3000 discs that people seem to use that are cheaper than trizact but they say don't last as long either . I did 2 lots of headlights yesterday but did by hand using water. Only did it this way due to control issues with the drill and that yellow build up I was getting in spots
@theheadlightrestorationpro
@theheadlightrestorationpro Жыл бұрын
Yeah that yellow build up is definitely the distance and it's probably the issue with being able to control it as well they're not going to be as good they're going to be definitely subpar.. Also the p3000 isn't the same as the trizact.. no where it's near actually...

If you are doing it for the first time it is quite difficult to understand some nuances. What I learned: 1. Don’t press hard. 2. See the color of “baby powder”- from yellow to white. 3. Try using the 1st speed of the drill - disc will last longer and you will feel better 4. Pay Germans, buy their discs and plastic polish. 5. Buy polisher, without 7-8rpm you can’t get close to authors result. Hope this helps.
