Just kind of a sad fact of life. The world's greatest talent in pretty much anything is probably not doing the thing they would be the greatest at. You probably have never been to the place you would be the happiest living. You'll probably never meet the person you'd be the most romantically compatible with.

Sounds very likely like Kiethevez when they started in the music busniness. They ended up playing synthpop. Also the band is Swiss and lived in Germany for fewer years(Where this song first came out). Perhaps it could be them becfause the voice is very alike. Also they usually recorded many demos. @rage-cs: its just marketing, theres no lost song. perhaps the result of a track made by artificial intelligence or pushing something new. think deeper: what do we hear here? someone who tries to be like depeche mode on purpose - like almost every band after the first wave of the new wave. second: why trying to sing like dave gahan (must be after 84) but not using the instruments who were available then such as the emulator keyboards or later samplers? this doesnt match together, like someone did it with specific intention. and tbh: the voice of the singer doesnt reflect the 80s very much to me...it sounds like someone from nowadays wanted to catch the feeling from this time while putting everything in one bucket that could match to a 80s song, but made in 2019. its clear to me its not an old record. i could analyze the mastering in my studio to see if it has the signature of mixed&mastered music from this time - but im sure i will see the dynamics of a todays mixdown.

Theory: Mystery Song Originated In East Germany 1. The song was written and performed by an underground band in East Germany. The lyrics of the song have the "feel" of someone living in a totalitarian society dreaming about escaping to freedom. The song has allusions to the Berlin Wall, underground tunnels and subversion against a totalitarian regime. 2. Someone smuggled a recording of the song into West Germany and somehow it made it's way to a German radio station where it got played. 3. The band who made the song were arrested by the East German secret police and disappeared. They were either executed or sent to a Siberian gulag for making "illegal" Western music which was banned in the Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc countries. Any other copies of the song were considered treasonous propaganda and destroyed.

I may be a bit late to this, but I have a theory as to where it came from. Due to the singers voice, it is definitely Eastern European, and I believe this band is Hungarian, for 2 reasons a) the songs lyrics are often interpreted as dark and hopeless, in a place you cannot escape. Hungary at the time (1982-1984) was under communist control, and this fits the lyrics well. b) I researched this and found out about how many punk and new wave bands from Budapest and Szeged mailed their demo tapes to western Germany in search of success. This is also backed up by a few NME articles about punks being locked up as they did not meet the governments preservation of older music. They are all from 1984, the same year that this song is believed to have played. This is just theorising, but when I can finally travel to Hungary again after the world is somewhat back to normal, I will make sure to investigate in a couple of record stores and museums that I found in my last trip there :)

One other thing is if the band were Hungarian there is a good chance that the band name and song title was originally written in Magyar. That used to happen although the lyrics are in English, the title would be in the native language and alphabet. Which makes it harder to find when the majority of people looking don't know the first thing about the Hungarian written language.

Most of these lyrics are actually what I thought when listening to the song, except for a few of them: There's no self communication - for me it sounded more like "theres no sense for munication" which i guess is communication shortened? In the young and restless dreamer - for me it sounded more like "hear the young and restless screaming" which is pretty unfittingly dark so I guess the screaming is actually "dreaming" Its the summer blues - it sounded more like "in/with the sun or moon" It's the real excuse - it sounded more like "cuz they're leaving/reading you" But everything else was top notch

After some searches , I have two theories that might be possible: 1. This sounds like a Cisse Häkkinen 80’s Finnish new wave type of thing , so it might be one of his demos which was just played on the radio for marketing purposes but because there was no interest , it remained unreleased and therefore lost. 2. It might’ve been a wannabe “breakout” project for some little indie/rock band (there were a lot of these in the late 80’s) but because of lack of funds , the song never got released or if it did, then it wasn’t a success and maybe the band disbanded.

It has a decidedly European "demo cassette" many bands may have had - cheap paid studio time, minimum cassette copies... no real public releases or record deal. Vaguely "European" accent. You're right on.
@stillcursed4135 Жыл бұрын
I listened to Cisse Häkkinen now and his style is very different but kinda have the same singing style on some songs. But this sounds way more 80s and the vocals are also more deeper, and also slower paced in style and completely different from Häkkinen´s work. Completely different groove and style. Häkkinen´s words when singing also can be heard clearer. If this was his work it would be his best work, so theres no reason for him to trhow it away like it was nothing. Also production wise this dont sound like his work. I believe this theory to be wrong. I think this song has a better melody then all the Häkkinen songs. The person who made this song put a lot of effort into it, and so I dont believe he would have thrown it away.
@crunchstick12773 жыл бұрын
Throughout the 80’s, I always had a few part time musician friends and relatives who played guitar, keyboards and sang and owned mini studio mixer/recorder combos, along with drum machines that sounded very similar to this, who were amazingly good but sadly went no where with their talent. For every success story there are a 100 more unheard or discovered, especially in small towns. There’s no mystery, there were just no outlets for exposure, unlike today with the internet and TV talent shows.

Found this post on another site a few days ago. HailRider 3 weeks ago Back in the late 80's and early 90's (89-92) there were a group of us foreigners living in and around Fujisawa, Japan. Most of us were teaching english (ESL). I think I know who this is. Kai Becker. He had a small home studio and called himself GGG for german guitar god. Almost all of us were guitarists and would play in the bars for free, just for fun. Kai was probably the better player of all of us and had gone to a school for both guitar and recording. After I made fun of his first recording he brought to a bar (song was called: do ya wanna dance with me...ya ya) and he overheard a Japanese music professional say to me "You are the best guitarist here" He pretty much went straight home and began working on this. I recognize the voice and play style, phrasing. Seems like I have heard this before. I remember he processed the vocals by putting it through a Korg reverb and something else. His voice wasn't naturally so low. If I recall he used the technique of recording the Vs at a slightly higher tempo then slowing the V track down and THEN mixing down with the instrumentation. I had a programmable Yamaha drum machine back then (still have it) and I think he had the same one. Sounds like it.

Sounds great. I can't believe no one can trace it down, unless of course it never existed...and the whole thing is a hoax by some 80's cover band. If this was actually recorded from the radio then why is it allowed to fade to the end? Usually radio stations start the next song just as the last one is ending so that there is no dead air. Why was it recorded in mono? Here are some questions that I asked on other postings of this and never gotten a reply, so I'll repost them here. Sounds like the band took a few elements from "Jethro Tull" (Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll, Too Young to Die), few elements from (Unsatisfied) by the "Nine Black Alps" along with some other bits and pieces. . The echo and instrumentation reminds me of "The Stranglers" (Always The Sun). I hear some wow and flutter so the source is likely from a cassette tape. Time frame could be mid 1980's to early 90's. Forgive me if I am repeating anything here that's been already asked or bought up elsewhere on the internet. Here are my questions and comments... 1...Has the station that allegedly played this song been contacted? What did they say? 2...Why is this in mono? 3...Has anyone done a breakdown of what parts of the song sounds like (like I did above) ? 4...There a tons of great songs played over the years that were played once or twice on the radio and then faded into obscurity that hasn't reached the level that this song has. I need to ask, is this part of some publicity stunt? 5...Where was this found? 6...Who found it? 7...How was it found in 2019? 8...How come only a small section was found but then the full version emerges (furthering the mystery/hype)? 9...The song is good and there are a LOT of great obscure songs that came and went. Why is such attention paid to THIS song above all the others? 10..Is the author of the original Reddit post secretly connected to the band in question? 11..How did the author of the Reddit post get a hold of the song to begin with. (I read the Reddit article a few days ago and didn't see or must have missed how the song came to his attention).

I remember one claim that some reporter played this song on the radio but he couldn't remember the groups nor songs name at all. my theory is that the alvin dean guy that sounds similar to the one band statues in motion he voiced is him singing it but has something to do with a different band instead, the band had decided to make a demo and made a copy of the song before realizing after it being sent to a radio station they didnt really want it out there (but here we are) and the band went on to rename and do other songs instead going into statues in motion.
